Concert like this. Thousands lined up for blocks, all night in the freezing cold. Waiting all night for you, one direction. We love you. Get ready for the fab five, live in central park, in just moments, only right here on gma. Lets start this party right now, gma. All good morning, america. And good morning, america. Lets go right to central park right now. Look at that crowd right there. Wow it may be wintry weather. But that hasnt stopped the biggest crowd weve ever seen in central park, for one direction, right there. And inside the one direction bus right now, liam, harry, niall, louis, and zayn, all ready for this huge concert. It was something to see the crowd swell throughout the night. And this is what we have. They were out so very, very early, as you said. Lining up for the tickets to get inside the park. Thats where well be shortly. And another sign of just how big this band is. Their new album came out just 24 hours ago. And its already number one in 96 countries. Of course. And climbing. I think we can hear them yelling a mile away, down here in times square. Twitter, understandably, going apoplectic right now. Folks in the crowd and in line. All poised in front of their tvs. Join us today, wont you. Its onedongma. And its very cold out there. But it could be worse than it is. That storm, going to make Holiday Travel a mess. Looking live at flightradar24. Lets look at the number of planes in the air already this morning. Its going to be a busy day with so many delays. You know too well about this, sam. Wednesday, the big travel day delays on that day, as well. The good news here is that were pretty much out of it on thursday. Lets get everybody settled in to where the storm is right now. Our area of low pressure thats caused so much problems in the south and the middle of the country is probably hanging right now right along the gulf coast. This low drives towards atlanta. Passes north carolina. And moves towards new york city. Right about this time tomorrow, the low is parked outside our doors in times square, spinning some of the worst wind and rain in our area. Between now and then, it has the east coast to get to and a lot of folks traveling in the next 24 hours. Theres some snow on the back end of this thing, as well. Snow and ice, and heavy accumulations. I think the worst part of this for a lot of travel will be rain. This is the i95 corridor. Well go into that. But the heavy rain goes from new york to washington to raleigh to atlanta. Atlanta hartsfield, the Busiest Airport in the u. S. And our gio benitez is right there already to tell us what to expect. And gio, rain, already. Youre wet. Good morning. Reporter good morning, sam. Its been a wet morning. A mess here in atlanta. So many drivers on the street. Thats the concern here because millions of us will be hitting the road. That wintry storm system moving east. 33 states in the crosshairs. Snow, ice, and freezing rain turning highways into ice rinks. Road accidents now to blame for at least a dozen deaths across the country. Slick bridges and spinouts in central arkansas. One woman there killed in a headon collision, after she lost control of her car. And in new mexico, that icy wind. Aaa says 90 of travelers this week will drive. And nearly 39 Million People will drive 50 miles or more from their home. So, aaa is urging drivers to keep more than an eightsecond gap between cars. Allowing more time to react to upcoming hazards and outofcontrol vehicles. The chilling weather that brought a tree down on this car in odessa, texas, and buried this truck near lake huron, now bearing down on the east coast. Oil city, pennsylvania, hit with 20 inches of lakeeffect snow. The snow has kept me in the house. It came hard and fast. Reporter in new york city this morning, the wind making it feel like a bonechilling 27 degrees. And this fountain in philadelphia, nearly frozen solid after a record chill. And you have to remember about the dangerous black ice on the road. Thats the ice that you cant even see when youre driving. And it makes cars slip and slide, sam. Youre right. Thats mixed in those elevations. Anyone gets a little elevation, youre going to get the black ice. Step inside. Get a little dry, sir. Well talk to you later on this morning. Heres the plan for everybody leaving that area that gio is standing in. And headed north. Theres some kickback snow waiting for atlanta. You dry out during the day tomorrow. But we think theres a mixture as this cold air pulls in behind this low. And the low moves up the coastline, that will get very close. Chattanooga, youre getting some snow in the mountains. And this western line of snow will deliver up to 18 inches of snow in northwestern pennsylvania. Also western new york state. Most folks will get anywhere from one to seven out of this. Well tell you specifically so you know what to expect. You know when to travel. Well have everybodys forecast in a minute. Thank you. Gio showed us the problems on the roads. Lets take a look at whats happening in the air. David kerley at Reagan National airport. Good morning, david. Reporter good morning, george. Here it comes. Already here in washington, d. C. , the two major airports are actually treating the runways with deicers. Its the first time this season. Calm today. But starting tonight, and into tomorrow, as youve already heard, a winter mess could mangle your thanksgiving travel plans. Heres why, as the storm moves up the east, its going to cover just about every major hub were talking about. Boston, new york, philadelphia, d. C. , charlotte and atlanta. And the problem is, when some of these hubs start cancelling flights dont forget that new york gets 1 out of 10 flights every day when they start canceling, theres that cascading effect. That Ripple Effect that goes to the entire country. If youre flying to seattle or los angeles, you could be delayed, too. It is a big problem. U. S. Air and delta, offering waivers to passengers, meaning they can rebook their flights. The problem, george, that doesnt mean they get home for thanksgiving. So, david, if youre heading to the airport today, what do you do . Reporter a couple things. Do not check a bag if you want to get on a plane. And a couple of things. Go on the website, check the airline. Sign up for their apps. And if something goes wrong, tweet. George and robin, ill tweet you. Im getting on a plane and ill let you know how its going at 0,000 feet. Okay, david, thanks very much. Lets go to josh and the other top stories. Were going to begin with new concerns about the future of u. S. Troops in afghanistan. We learned that a deal that would keep American Forces in afghanistan possibly through the year 2024 is now in jeopardy. Afghan President Hamid karzai is refusing to sign the deal unless the u. S. Releases all afghan prisoners currently held at guantanamo bay. And a developing story along the Mississippi River at this hour. The 140foot towboat you see here has sunk to the bottom of the river. And is now reportedly leaking oil. It ran aground in la claire, iowa, carrying some 89,000 gallons of diesel fuel. That section of the river is now closed. President obama is renewing his push for immigration reform. But during a speech in california, he was forced to confront a heckler demanding that the president stop deportations. As a nation our families are separated. I need your help. There are thousands thats exactly what were talking about here. You have the power to stop deportation from all actually, i dont. But it wont be as easy as just shouting. It requires us lobbying and getting it done. Later, the president held a fundraiser at former laker earvin magic johnsons mansion in beverly hills. Each guest paid up to 15,000 to attend. And a massive fire overnight at the fruit packing plant you see here in oregon. As you see, the flames towering into the sky. It apparently started in some wooden bins on the property. Thankfully, no one was injured. And a shocking scene caught on camera. A tiger going on the attack at a zoo in australia. A tourists camera caught the moment that the tiger turned violent, mauled its trainer, briefly holding him, in fact, under water. Other Staff Members ran in. You see here, the trainer does slip. He is dragged by his colleagues to safety. The trainer suffered two neck wounds. He was airlifted to the hospital. Hes in serious but stable condition this morning. This happened at the same zoo started by the late crocodile hunter, steve irwin. And finally, we now know what a florida fisherman caught here off the coast of miami the other day. Enjoy this one, sam. You can see, it wasnt immediately obvious. Its an 800pound something. Looks like a sting ray. Its actually a hook skate. Thats a skate . Of course. Theyre rarely seen because they live at the bottom of the ocean at depths around 1,000 feet. But now, in miami, sam yeah . These things are coming to the surface to say hello. So, i want you to enjoy that next time youre down there. Thats a giant skate. Big, big, big fish. Thank you, josh. Now, to the new clues just revealed about the mind of a madman. Reporter as to why 20yearold adam lanza targeted the school and then killed himself, the state prosecutor said his investigation does not establish a conclusive motive. Whats clear is that the culprit is adam lanza. And all those who wish to blame drugs or video games or lax gun laws or even nancy lanza, are misplaced. Reporter for the first time, officials released photos taken inside lanzas home, where he had first killed his mother, nancy. His bedroom and computer room, with the windows covered by black garbage bags, were the lair of a recluse. There was a shooting range target with holes in it. Video games that Authorities Say he spent hours playing. An open gun safe with a teddy bear on top. And news clippings dating back to the 1890s that showed an obsession with mass murders, in particular, the columbine shootings. His entire world was, i think, planning some event like this shooting. Reporter Officials Say lanza communicated online with others interested in mass murders. But he destroyed his hard drive before leaving on his deadly mission. Out of consideration for the families, other material from the investigation that might ordinarily be made public, is still being withheld, including 911 calls and photos of the young victims. To the relief of nicole hockley, whose son, dylan, was among those killed. She talks with lara spencer. Its not in anybodys interest. Its not the way i want dill on the be remembered. Reporter the report says lanza had Significant Mental Health issues. And in the end, only communicated with his mother by email. P lanza was well enough to plan an attack, including the taking of his own life, all of the guns legally purchased by his mother. In many ways, its hard to believe were coming up on a year since that happened. Brian, thank you. Thanks, guys. Were going to turn, now, to the government crackdown on Genetic Testing Company, 23 and me. Youre 3 east asian. Reporter oprahs done it. John legend, too. This is crazy. Reporter even kevin bacon used it. Wow. And she told me the athome test would prove for as many as 250 different conditions. From lactose intolerance, to parkinsons. Im really focused also on the prevention. For Good Morning America, bianna golodryga, abc news, new york. Were going to bring in abc news chief medical and health editor, dr. Richard besser. I know you have concerns about these kits. I do. Its one thing to use a kit to find out about your ancestors or your risk of going bald. But if youre looking at medical information, your risk of the brca gene, for cancer, you want to make sure its accurate. And in fact, by law, it has to be approved by the fda. Fda says none of the home test kits have gone through that. And none have been approved. Right now, the best way to know your risk, you know, for Something Like brca, you get a formal test. But other things you want to know about your family history, find out what diseases ran in the family. Its thanksgiving. Family is going to be around the table. Have the conversation. Sit down and ask those questions. Have that conversation. I know you want to talk about something else. The whats called the planb contraceptive pill. This is really important. The european manufacturer of that pill said yesterday that they want to change the label to indicate that the pill does not work in any woman that is greater than 176 pounds. Why is that . They wanted to see why it didnt work for some people. They found that weight was a big issue. This brand of pill is not the same here. But its the same pill in the planb over the counter. So if youre in need of emergency contraception, theres a prescription product called ella that works a little better if youre a heavier woman. Or the most effective is a copper iud. But that isnt covered by all insurance. Make sure you understand, the morningafter pill is not 100 effective. Especially if youre a larger woman. Okay. Thank you, rich. Thanks, guys. Braving it for the same charity he went to the north pole for. Walking with the wounded, which helps injured servicemen and women. Being snowed in and all the weather delays made harry question his sanity. Me and my big mouth. Theres no way i could have dropped out of this. No way i couldnt have done it. And also, its a great opportunity. I know its slightly mad. Reporter even joking around about trying to drop out of the trek. I obviously broke my toe hoping to get out of the trip. That was a massive fail on my part. Friends of mine said, you really need to go that step further and break your leg. I chose not to. Reporter for Good Morning America, lama hasan, london. A massive fail. Sam, not quite antarctic up here, but some cold and snow as well. We told you about the rain and wind that starts in the deep south and works all the way up the coastline. Thats tuesday, into wednesday, the big travel day, as well. Already, we had snowflakes flying from cincinnati all the way through, well, call it cleveland. Charleston, elkins, west virginia, pittsburgh, a little bit of snow. These are the totals that will keep going up as the low gets close to us. By 7 00 tomorrow morning, the low is parked right over the new york city area. Syracuse, buffalo, erie, really getting walloped. And that snow will stay around there even as that low departs. Im not sure that the coastal areas, new york to boston, dont see a wintry mix as the low pulls away, just because the air is so cold behind it. Heres where its great. Call palm springs, 74.
