right there. >> wow! >> it may be wintry weather. but that hasn't stopped the biggest crowd we've ever seen in central park, for one direction, right there. and inside the one direction bus right now, liam, harry, niall, louis, and zayn, all ready for this huge concert. >> it was something to see the crowd swell throughout the night. and this is what we have. they were out so very, very early, as you said. lining up for the tickets to get inside the park. that's where we'll be shortly. >> and another sign of just how big this band is. their new album came out just 24 hours ago. and it's already number one in 96 countries. >> of course. >> and climbing. >> i think we can hear them yelling a mile away, down here in times square. twitter, understandably, going apoplectic right now. folks in the crowd and in line. all poised in front of their tvs. join us today, won't you. it's #onedongma. and it's very cold out there. but it could be worse than it is. that storm, going to make holiday travel a mess. looking live at flightradar24. lets look at the number of planes in the air already this morning. it's going to be a busy day with so many delays. you know too well about this, sam. >> wednesday, the big travel day delays on that day, as well. the good news here is that we're pretty much out of it on thursday. let's get everybody settled in to where the storm is right now. our area of low pressure that's caused so much problems in the south and the middle of the country is probably hanging right now right along the gulf coast. this low drives towards atlanta. passes north carolina. and moves towards new york city. right about this time tomorrow, the low is parked outside our doors in times square, spinning some of the worst wind and rain in our area. between now and then, it has the east coast to get to and a lot of folks traveling in the next 24 hours. there's some snow on the back end of this thing, as well. snow and ice, and heavy accumulations. i think the worst part of this for a lot of travel will be rain. this is the i-95 corridor. we'll go into that. but ♪ ♪ the heavy rain goes from new york to washington to raleigh to atlanta. atlanta hartsfield, the busiest airport in the u.s. and our gio benitez is right there already to tell us what to expect. and gio, rain, already. you're wet. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, sam. it's been a wet morning. a mess here in atlanta. so many drivers on the street. that's the concern here because millions of us will be hitting the road. that wintry storm system moving east. 33 states in the crosshairs. snow, ice, and freezing rain turning highways into ice rinks. road accidents now to blame for at least a dozen deaths across the country. slick bridges and spinouts in central arkansas. one woman there killed in a head-on collision, after she lost control of her car. and in new mexico, that icy wind. aaa says 90% of travelers this week will drive. and nearly 39 million people will drive 50 miles or more from their home. so, aaa is urging drivers to keep more than an eight-second gap between cars. allowing more time to react to upcoming hazards and out-of-control vehicles. the chilling weather that brought a tree down on this car in odessa, texas, and buried this truck near lake huron, now bearing down on the east coast. oil city, pennsylvania, hit with 20 inches of lake-effect snow. >> the snow has kept me in the house. it came hard and fast. >> reporter: in new york city this morning, the wind making it feel like a bone-chilling 27 degrees. and this fountain in philadelphia, nearly frozen solid after a record chill. and you have to remember about the dangerous black ice on the road. that's the ice that you can't even see when you're driving. and it makes cars slip and slide, sam. >> you're right. that's mixed in those elevations. anyone gets a little elevation, you're going to get the black ice. step inside. get a little dry, sir. we'll talk to you later on this morning. here's the plan for everybody leaving that area that gio is standing in. and headed north. there's some kickback snow waiting for atlanta. you dry out during the day tomorrow. but we think there's a mixture as this cold air pulls in behind this low. and the low moves up the coastline, that will get very close. chattanooga, you're getting some snow in the mountains. and this western line of snow will deliver up to 18 inches of snow in northwestern pennsylvania. also western new york state. most folks will get anywhere from one to seven out of this. we'll tell you specifically so you know what to expect. you know when to travel. we'll have everybody's forecast in a minute. >> thank you. gio showed us the problems on the roads. let's take a look at what's happening in the air. david kerley at reagan national airport. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, george. here it comes. already here in washington, d.c., the two major airports are actually treating the runways with deicers. it's the first time this season. calm today. but starting tonight, and into tomorrow, as you've already heard, a winter mess could mangle your thanksgiving travel plans. here's why, as the storm moves up the east, it's going to cover just about every major hub we're talking about. boston, new york, philadelphia, d.c., charlotte and atlanta. and the problem is, when some of these hubs start cancelling flights -- don't forget that new york gets 1 out of 10 flights every day -- when they start canceling, there's that cascading effect. that ripple effect that goes to the entire country. if you're flying to seattle or los angeles, you could be delayed, too. it is a big problem. u.s. air and delta, offering waivers to passengers, meaning they can rebook their flights. the problem, george, that doesn't mean they get home for thanksgiving. >> so, david, if you're heading to the airport today, what do you do? >> reporter: a couple things. do not check a bag if you want to get on a plane. and a couple of things. go on the website, check the airline. sign up for their apps. and if something goes wrong, tweet. george and robin, i'll tweet you. i'm getting on a plane and i'll let you know how it's going at 0,000 feet. >> okay, david, thanks very much. let's go to josh and the other top stories. >> we're going to begin with new concerns about the future of u.s. troops in afghanistan. we learned that a deal that would keep american forces in afghanistan possibly through the year 2024 is now in jeopardy. afghan president hamid karzai is refusing to sign the deal unless the u.s. releases all afghan prisoners currently held at guantanamo bay. and a developing story along the mississippi river at this hour. the 140-foot towboat you see here has sunk to the bottom of the river. and is now reportedly leaking oil. it ran aground in la claire, iowa, carrying some 89,000 gallons of diesel fuel. that section of the river is now closed. president obama is renewing his push for immigration reform. but during a speech in california, he was forced to confront a heckler demanding that the president stop deportations. >> as a nation -- >> our families are separated. i need your help. there are thousands -- >> that's exactly what we're talking about here. >> you have the power to stop deportation from all -- >> actually, i don't. but it won't be as easy as just shouting. it requires us lobbying and getting it done. >> later, the president held a fund-raiser at former laker earvin "magic" johnson's mansion in beverly hills. each guest paid up to $15,000 to attend. and a massive fire overnight at the fruit packing plant you see here in oregon. as you see, the flames towering into the sky. it apparently started in some wooden bins on the property. thankfully, no one was injured. and a shocking scene caught on camera. a tiger going on the attack at a zoo in australia. a tourist's camera caught the moment that the tiger turned violent, mauled its trainer, briefly holding him, in fact, under water. other staff members ran in. you see here, the trainer does slip. he is dragged by his colleagues to safety. the trainer suffered two neck wounds. he was air-lifted to the hospital. he's in serious but stable condition this morning. this happened at the same zoo started by the late crocodile hunter, steve irwin. and finally, we now know what a florida fisherman caught here off the coast of miami the other day. enjoy this one, sam. you can see, it wasn't immediately obvious. it's an 800-pound something. >> looks like a sting ray. >> it's actually a hook skate. >> that's a skate? >> of course. >> they're rarely seen because they live at the bottom of the ocean at depths around 1,000 feet. but now, in josh. now, to the new clues just revealed about the mind of a madman. details emerging about the newtown school massacre gunman. who took the lives of 20 children and 6 school staffers last december. a report about the rampage is out. and abc's brian ross is here with the latest on that. good morning, brian. >> reporter: good morning, robin. the 11-month investigation was closed with authorities saying they were unable to determine the motive of the shooting that led to so many being killed. >> 6-7. sandy hook school. caller is indicating, she thinks there's something shooting in the building. >> reporter: the report found that the shooting rampage took only 11 minutes. >> the shooter's apparently still shooting. >> reporter: as to why 20-year-old adam lanza targeted the school and then killed himself, the state prosecutor said his investigation does not establish a conclusive motive. >> what's clear is that the culprit is adam lanza. and all those who wish to blame drugs or video games or lax gun laws or even nancy lanza, are misplaced. >> reporter: for the first time, officials released photos taken inside lanza's home, where he had first killed his mother, nancy. his bedroom and computer room, with the windows covered by black garbage bags, were the lair of a recluse. there was a shooting range target with holes in it. video games that authorities say he spent hours playing. an open gun safe with a teddy bear on top. and news clippings dating back to the 1890s that showed an obsession with mass murders, in particular, the columbine shootings. >> his entire world was, i think, planning some event like this shooting. >> reporter: officials say lanza communicated online with others interested in mass murders. but he destroyed his hard drive before leaving on his deadly mission. out of consideration for the families, other material from the investigation that might ordinarily be made public, is still being withheld, including 911 calls and photos of the young victims. to the relief of nicole hockley, whose son, dylan, was among those killed. she talks with lara spencer. >> it's not in anybody's interest. it's not the way i want dill on the be remembered. >> reporter: the report says lanza had significant mental health issues. and in the end, only communicated with his mother by e-mail. &-p lanza was well enough to plan an attack, including the taking of his own life, all of the guns legally purchased by his mother. >> in many ways, it's hard to believe we're coming up on a year since that happened. brian, thank you. >> thanks, guys. we're going to turn, now, to the government crackdown on genetic testing company, 23 and me. the fda says the google-backed company has to stop selling the at-home tests that claim to tell you if you're at risk of developing certain diseases. bianna golodryga was tested and brings us the story. >> you're 3% -- >> east asian. >> reporter: oprah's done it. john legend, too. >> this is crazy. >> reporter: even kevin bacon used it. >> wow. >> reporter: no, not to play six degrees of kevin bacon, but to prove it through genetic testing. a way to determine heritage and unearth potential genetic medical risks. the online genetic testing company 23 and me brought the normally expensive procedures to the masses, with its $99 home saliva test. one of its slogans, strike back before cancer has a chance to strike. but now, the fda says the company has not provided any medical scientific evidence behind their claims. so, the agency is demanding 23 and me discontinue marketing those kits immediately. >> hundreds of things about my health. >> reporter: citing possible health consequences by false positive testing. 23andme is run by ann wojcicki. who is in the midst of a very public separation from google's sergey brin, whose company backed the startup. in 2009, i sat down with anne. and she told me the at-home test would prove for as many as 250 different conditions. from lactose intolerance, to parkinson's. >> i'm really focused also on the prevention. >> reporter: a spokesperson for 23and34e me tells abc, quote, our relationship with the fda is extremely important to us. and we are committed to fully engaging with them to address their concerns. for "good morning america," bianna golodryga, abc news, new york. we're going to bring in abc news chief medical and health editor, dr. richard besser. i know you have concerns about these kits. >> i do. it's one thing to use a kit to find out about your ancestors or your risk of going bald. but if you're looking at medical information, your risk of the brca gene, for cancer, you want to make sure it's accurate. and in fact, by law, it has to be approved by the fda. fda says none of the home test kits have gone through that. and none have been approved. right now, the best way to know your risk, you know, for something like brca, you get a formal test. but other things you want to know about your family history, find out what diseases ran in the family. >> it's thanksgiving. family is going to be around the table. have the conversation. >> sit down and ask those questions. have that conversation. >> i know you want to talk about something else. the -- what's called the plan-b contraceptive pill. >> this is really important. the european manufacturer of that pill said yesterday that they want to change the label to indicate that the pill does not work in any woman that is greater than 176 pounds. >> why is that? >> they wanted to see why it didn't work for some people. they found that weight was a big issue. this brand of pill is not the same here. but it's the same pill in the plan-b over the counter. so if you're in need of emergency contraception, there's a prescription product called ella that works a little better if you're a heavier woman. or the most effective is a copper iud. but that isn't covered by all insurance. make sure you understand, the morning-after pill is not 100% effective. especially if you're a larger woman. >> okay. thank you, rich. >> thanks, guys. prince harry time, now. giving his first interview from antarctica as he treks to the south pole to support wounded warriors. it is a grueling expedition. but lama hasan reports it hasn't dampened harry's trademark sense of fun. >> reporter: this morning, one final briefing before prince harry begins his latest adventure. his face says it all. sporting a ginger beard and looking all rugged. speaking out for the first time since hitting the antarctic. opening up about his sibling rivalry with his brother, prince william. >> i think he is jealous that i managed to get away from a screaming child. >> reporter: he says his father is worried about harry's latest adventure. >> try to keep him calm by saying the north pole is the dangerous one because you're walking on a frozen ocean. but apart from frostbite and stuff like that, you should be able to look after yourself, as long as you just head south. >> reporter: harry has been training for months for this grueling expedition. a three-week-long race to reach the south pole. navigating some of the harshest terrain on earth. in minus 49-degree temperatures and 90-mile-per-hour winds. braving it for the same charity he went to the north pole for. walking with the wounded, which helps injured servicemen and women. being snowed in and all the weather delays made harry question his sanity. >> me and my big mouth. there's no way i could have dropped out of this. no way i couldn't have done it. and also, it's a great opportunity. i know it's slightly mad. >> reporter: even joking around about trying to drop out of the trek. >> i obviously broke my toe hoping to get out of the trip. that was a massive fail on my part. friends of mine said, you really need to go that step further and break your leg. i chose not to. >> reporter: for "good morning america," lama hasan, london. >> a massive fail. sam, not quite antarctic up here, but some cold and snow as well. >> we told you about the rain and wind that starts in the deep south and works all the way up the coastline. that's tuesday, into wednesday, the big travel day, as well. already, we had snowflakes flying from cincinnati all the way through, well, call it cleveland. charleston, elkins, west virginia, pittsburgh, a little bit of snow. these are the totals that will keep going up as the low gets close to us. by 7:00 tomorrow morning, the low is parked right over the new york city area. syracuse, buffalo, erie, really getting walloped. and that snow will stay around there even as that low departs. i'm not sure that the coastal areas, new york to boston, don't see a wintry mix as the low pulls away, just because the air is so cold behind it. here's where three couples left for tonight's blockbuster "dancing with the stars" finale. bill engvall, i know george was bummed, you really liked him, and his partner sent home last night after a great run. we're going to hear from them just ahead. >> and after-party here tomorrow. we're going to begin with the dramatic moment in bode miller's custody battle. the olympic ski champion squared off with his ex-girlfriend in court yesterday. and by the end of the day, bode had to give up his 9-month-old boy, at least for now. paula faris is following the case and she joins us now. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, george. this morning, bode miller's son is temporarily back with the boy's mother. but the battle is far from over. and it's one that could have a significant impact on the rights of pregnant women. olympic gold medalist bode miller arrived at a new york city family court monday, carrying his son, with his wife at his side. but after the hearing, that little boy left with someone else. his mother. sara mckenna, who posed for the cameras. miller and mckenna never married but are fighting over the custody of their 9-month-old. that battle so contentious, they can't even agree on their son's name. he calls him nate. she calls him sam. miller is the most successful american male downhill skier in olympic history. >> by 0.03 of a second, bode miller! >> reporter: mckenna, a former marine and firefighter, who became pregnant after a brief relationship with the skier in 2012. while pregnant, she moved from california to new york to study at columbia, only after she claims he wanted little to do with the boy. what kind of precedent could this case set? >> if a court ends up telling a pregnant woman where she can and can't travel, based on where the baby may be born, that definitely sets a precedent. i think a dangerous one. >> reporter: miller's lawyer says he is not able to talk about the ongoing case. but in court monday, miller's lawyer asked for mckenna to admit to a parenting schedule and shared custody. mckenna's lawyer, argued miller, whose busy travel and training schedule for the upcoming winter olympics, would prevent him from spending sufficient time with his son. now, the little boy will remain with his mother until december 9th, which is their next hearing. but robin, it had already been arranged that he would spend the thanksgiving holiday with his mother. >> all right. thanks so much, paula. appreciate it. now, to the latest on the alleged murder for hire we've been following in las vegas. amy bessey is charged with plotting to kill her husband in a drive-by shooting with her brother and her son carrying out the crime. she took the stand in her own defense. and abc's linsey davis has the story. >> reporter: shortly after taking the stand monday afternoon, amy bessey admitted that she had wished out loud that her husband were dead. >> i was fed up. i just wanted it to be done. i just said it. i wish he was dead. >> reporter: but she said she only wished it. but never asked for it. >> did you ever ask anybody to murder robert bessey? >> no, i did not. >> reporter: bessey is accused of planning to kill her husband of 18 years in a botched november 2012 drive-by shooting, carried out by her brother and son. the motive, according to the prosecution, their divorce was less than a month away from being finalized. and robert had not yet removed her as the beneficiary of his $250,000 life insurance policy. >> did you believe that you would still get robert's life insurance money at that point? >> no. >> why not? >> i was divorced. >> reporter: amy bessey has pleaded not guilty to all seven felony charges in the shooting that wounded but didn't kill robert bessey. >> i felt a hot sensation here. and towards the back of my neck. >> reporter: the 43-year-old las vegas woman described her then-estranged husband as a violent man. he admitted on the stand that things got physical between the two of them. so physical, she also suggested if she'd wanted to kill him, she could have. >> well, he took his fist to my face. he took his knees to my ribs. and got my purse and i walked out the door. >> is there a firearm in that purse? >> yes. >> reporter: bessey's brother and son face similar charges. their trial is set to begin in february. both have pleaded not guilty. if convicted, amy bessey could face up to 91 years in jail. closing arguments are set to begin this morning. >> thank you so much, linsey. going to turn to the teen craze parkour. it's a sport where thrillseekers scale buildings, even jump across roof tops. now one california teen is in a coma after a parkour accident. john muller has the story. >> reporter: with the high-flying maneuvers, they resemble urban acrobats. flip after flip. jumping from buildings. or floor to floor. scaling the ledges. and running. through the real-world obstacle courses of their own design. >> basically, you're trying to get from point "a" to point "b" in the shortest amount of time. by jumping over stuff. >> reporter: it's called parkour. and its popularity is gaining all over the world. but this morning, many are questioning the risks involved in this high-stakes game after a northern california teen was found unconscious with serious head trauma. police say he may have fallen off a roof while attempting parkour. >> detectives discovered that several months ago, this young man and several of his friends were actually here on this same campus and were engaged in parkour. >> i see videos of it on facebook. just never from, like, that high of a roof. >> reporter: parkour started in france. but gained notoriety, after being featured in the james bond film, "casino royale." and matt damon's "bourne identity." ♪ youtube and facebook are littered with parkour tutorials. and while investigate ners california can't say for sure that parkour caused the young man's fall, the investigation into his death is continuing. >> that's scary stuff there. >> to say the least. time for another check of the weather. let's get over to sam. sam?
