Skywest flight 5622 from chicago to hartford, connecticut, took off at 9 31 this morning. But just 40 minutes into the flight, with the plane at 37,000 feet, a passenger becomes ill. The pilot, concerned the illness could be due to a pressurization issue, took no chances. Even though there were no cockpit warnings or oxygen masks dropping, he made a steep and fast descent, almost 27,000 feet in just ate minuteeight minutes. Passengers on board concerned, calling it a nose dive. They asked us to tighten our seatbelts, and we basically nosedived until we leveled out at 10,000 feet and that was pretty darn scary. These images coming in at this hour. Growing protests in the streets as outrage widens in that case making national headlines. The suspect taken into custody, put in that van. He would later die, his spine nearly severed. The central question, when and how did it happen . And tonight, the police union coming forward late today, defending their officers, saying theyre unsure if that suspect was wearing his seat belt. Abcs david kerley in baltimore. Reporter this video of the arrest of freddie gray, who died in police custody, does not explain his severe spinal injury according the Baltimore Police union. Five of the six officers involved, including the arresting officers, have been interviewed. The union says gray was not wearing a seat belt and it believes he was not injured during the arrest, but in that van, saying, they just dont know how. That is not enough for citizens, who are pouring out onto the streets. Police brutality is at an alltime high and it just needs to stop. Reporter grays mother collapsed, his sister in tears. And this evening, for the first time here, we are hearing from the Arizona Police officer who used his Police Cruiser to take down that suspect. Driving his patrol car right into a suspect who was wielding a gun. So many questions about why officer Michael Rapiejko made that decision. Tonight, in this new police audio tape, we hear him explain what went through his mind when he saw that suspect. Holding what i believed to be a locked and loaded rifle, based on the transmission that he shot into the air. There was occupied businesses. Theres two other officers at the end of the street. This is what i deem at this point to be a lethal force encounter. I have two thoughts that go in my mind. I need to shoot him to stop the threat or i need to run him over to stop the threat.
