In a series of tweets, the president calling himself strongly pro life but separating himself from the laws that make no exception for rape or incest and also mentioning the 2020 election at the same time. Abcs david wright reporting from the white house. Reporter with the politics of abortion now front and center, President Trump insists his views are mainstream. Tweeting this weekend, for those who would like to know, i am strongly pro life, with the three exceptions, rape, incest and protecting the life of the mother. The same position taken by ronald reagan. But some of the new state laws restricting abortion, including alabamas near outright ban, offer no exception for rape or incest. I dont support the alabama law. I believe there ought to be exceptions on pro life and exceptions for rape and incest and where the life of the mother is at risk. Reporter until recently, antiabortion activists have tended to focus on socalled late term abortions, in the third trimester of pregnancy. But new laws in half a dozen states would ban the procedure midway through the first trimester, before some women even know theyre pregnant. This is dangerous. It is a place that we have never seen. The idea that women in this country should not be able to control their own bodies is beyond belief. They have that constitutional right. Reporter that constitutional right, established in 1973 by the u. S. Supreme court in its landmark roe versus wade decision. For decades, republicans have energized their base, raising money and votes by vowing to reverse roe. Thatll happen automatically, in my opinion, because i am putting pro life justices on the court. Reporter President Trump has made good on that promise. And states are putting the issue to the test, prompting a potential backlash from democratic candidates, hoping to energize their voters. I hope americas women are paying attention, because President Trump has started a war on americas women. And if its a fight he wants to have, its a fight hes going to have and hes going to lose. David wright joins us now from the white house. And david, in his tweets about abortion, the president mentioning the 2020 election. Reporter thats right. The president tweeting, its important to, as he put it, stick together and win for life. Republicans clearly hoping to energize their base and claim the middle ground here, but some of these new state laws are for extreme restrictions on abortion and that will almost certainly Energize Voters on the other side. Tom . A democratic candidate also weighing in. Thank you. Overseas, a roadside bomb striking a tourist bus near the pyramids in egypt. One of the most popular Tourist Spots in the ancient world. The blast shattering the windshield injuring at least 17 people. Theres been no claim of responsibility yet but its the Second Attack there in six months. The last one killing three tourists. Abcs Julie Macfarlane reporting from london. Reporter tonight, a bomb targeting a tour bus near egypts famed pyramids, exploding in one of the most popular destinations in the world. Footage from the scene showing the windows on one side completely blown out, shattering the windscreen, and damaging a nearby car. This man witnessing the terrifying blast, saying all the foreigners in the front are injured, i was in the car right behind them. The attackers apparently targeting tourists. Officials say South Africans are among the injured. 16 hurt in total, 3 people treated in the hospital. This coming after a deadly terror bombing of a bus in december. Three vietnamese tourists and their egyptian guide killed in the same area. Egypt has been plagued by terror attacks, which has hurt their leading industries, tourism. In 2010 they had more than 14 million visitors. In 2017, just over 8 million. A major effort to bring tourists back to the pyramids of giza . A 1 billion museum under construction, but that too has faced setbacks and delays. No group has claimed responsibility yet for this latest attack. Egyptian authorities vowing to crackdown on those responsible. Tom. Julia, thank you. Back here at home now and the hero who prevented what could have been another deadly shooting. A former College Athlete and now a High School Football coach, he got the word of a man with danger. Abcs whit johnson with the exclusive interview. Reporter tonight, as Portland Police investigate what led an 18yearold Student Armed with a shotgun to walk inside a high school, the courageous coach who may have prevented another campus tragedy is speaking exclusively to abc news. Everything happened so fast, and it was the longest fraction of a second of my life. Reporter witnesses say diash friday, appearing distraught. Thats when keanon lowe, a football coach and unarmed security guard, received a call to locate the student in a classroom, arriving just in time. Moments later, dias walked in, clutching his weapon. I lunged for the gun and we both had the gun. We had four hands on the gun and students are running out of the back of the classroom and im just trying to make sure the end of the gun isnt pointing towards where the students are running but also not pointed at myself. So, i ended up getting the gun from him with my right hand and holding him off with my left hand. Reporter that tackle, by the former oregon ducks football standout, the most significant of his life. Police arriving to find the gunman subdued. Students, parents, and others nationwide now describing lowes bravery with one word. What does it feel like to be called a hero . I think there are things in my life that have happened that have, you know, prepared me for that very moment, you know, to act. So im appreciative. I thank god that no one got hurt. And thank god i was in that room. He was ready to act. Whit johnson joins us now live. Its striking how decisive he was. But you asked him if he was ever scared. Coach lowe tells me he was acting on pure instinct. No time for fear. No time to think before he tackled him. He said he is familiar with most of the students at the school but this one, tom, he did not know. All right, true hero. Great to have you with us on a sunday night. Thank you. Next to a man who is instant hero to the graduating class of Morehouse College. The billionaire investor giving a commencement address and millions of dollars to pay off every graduates tuition debt. I asked the person to the left of me, i asked the person to the right of me, the person in front of me, the person in back of me, is this really what he said . Reporter for ernest holmes, that means erasing the 10,000 he still owes. I think were all still in shock. We dont know what to say, really, that all our debt is gonna be gone. Reporter student debt is a real issue in this country, especially at historically black colleges. According a wall street journal analysis, alumni from these schools have a median federal loan debt of about 29,000, 32 more than graduates from other fouryear schools. These students vowing to pay it forward. I will definitely want to get to position where i can provide for future morehouse students. Reporter smith had already pledged a 1. 5 million gift to the school. Tonight the president of Morehouse College is thanking for him giving back and for changing their students lives. Tom .
