239 souls onboard. It is now four days into the search. And one new theory has emerged. Take a look. At first, investigators believed the plane traveled this scheduled route, then disappeared. But tonight, new clues suggest that the plane could have veered radically off course. And that means, a vast, new stretch of ocean to be searched. Abcs bob woodruff is on the ground in beijing with the very latest on the disappearance of flight 370. Reporter today, the malaysian military is quoted, saying they believe the mystery jet headed way off course. The flight carrying 239 passengers en route north to beijing, banking hard to the left. The military saying the plane soared back over hundreds of miles of land for an hour, never sounding an alarm, cruising low into the strait of malacca, a busy shipping lane near a tiny, rocky island called pulau perak. No boat, no one on land ever spotting it. An almost unimaginable maneuver sparking even more questions tonight. From the sky, it is like looking for a needle in a haystack for the 40 aircraft and ships. Our partners, the bbc, with a birdseye view aboard a search chopper. Officials here are using their naked eyes to try to spot anything in the water that seems to be out of the ordinary. So, it is easy to see why vietnamese officials have thought they spotted something. And it turned out to be false leads. Reporter a Colorado Company is even crowd sourcing, asking the public to help, by scouring images for clues, taken by their satellites high above the region. There was some progress today. We learned the two men who were on the flight using Fake Passports are both young iranians, a 19yearold and a 29yearold, travelling to germany, one possibly seeking asylum. Officials in contact with one of the mens mother, saying today that they do not think the men have any connection to terror. Still, criticism of the investigation and search is mounting, complaints that the malaysians are not coordinating the investigation. Its haphazard. Its scattershot. There doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason. And there doesnt seem to be any centralized control by the malaysian government. Reporter this idea that the plane may have veered off course, to one side, very hard, without any communication, is hard to explain. But the experts say, perhaps this means that the pilot was rogue. Maybe a hijacking. But theres no evidence of either one of those. So, this mystery continues. Diane . Well, bob, as you say, as the mistery deepens. The focus does shift to the men who were in the cockpit flying the plane. The pilots. Any clues their lives may have left behind. And abcs chief investigative correspondent, brian ross, spent the day tracking down new details. Hi, everyone. Reporter the captain, 53yearold Zaharie Ahmad shah, was a pilots pilot. Seen here on his own youtube channel, at the controls of a flight simulator. This is a Youtube Video ive made as a community service. Reporter a 35year veteran of the airline, with more than 18,000 hours of flying. His copilot, 27yearold fariq abdul hamid, is much less experienced. And today, the airline said it was investigating troubling reports he was kind of an airborne playboy, violating Safety Standards in the cockpit. According to an Australian News report, these two, young women were invited by the copilot three years ago to ride with him in the cockpit on a 2011 flight from kuala lampur. At one stage, they were pretty much turned around in their seats talking to us. And they were so engaged in conversation. Reporter still, theres nothing known about the two malaysia air pilots that suggest foul play. But backgrounds of the pilots are coming into sharp focus with new reports the plane veered far off course for an hour, after turning off its transponder tracking signal, raising questions, today, of possible hijacking or even pilot suicide. You cannot discount any theory. Who had the ability to turn off the transponder . I dont know. Reporter it was just last month that the copilot of an ethiopian airliner hijacked his own flight to switzerland. In 1999, authorities ruled that the pilot of an egypt air passenger jet flew the plane into the ocean, after takeoff from Kennedy Airport in new york. And pilot error has been tied to the mysterious crash of an air France Flight into the atlantic. But investigators found the pilots flew into dangerous weather and failed to take proper action after developing a mechanical problem. U. S. Authorities tell abc news, tonight, that the homes of the two malaysia air pilots have now been searched, looking for any clues that might answer the mystery, diane, of why and how this plane disappeared. All right, brian ross. Thanks to you. Brian and bob continuing our coverage throughout this night. And next, a bold move on the battle over obamacare. Last night, our dan harris told you about a panic attack on live tv. And it was the wakeup call that started him asking Big Questions about the way we can all get more control of what really makes us happy. Tonight, dan brings the simple answer he found. And it takes only five minutes a day. From abc news, this is good morning america. Were going to go, now, to dan harris, who is at the newsdesk. Dan . Good morning, charlie and diane. Reporter this is me ten years ago, having a panic attack on good morning america. Its too early to prescribe statins, slowly for cancer production. Reporter my heart is racing, my palms sweating. I literally cannot breathe. This meltdown was all, i later learned, brought on by a personal struggle so many of us face, a combination of doubt, drive, depression and drug abuse. So, i went in search of something to tame my racing mind, interviewing a gaggle of gurus. From the questionable, like the positive thinker, joe vitale, who charges 5 grand for a ride in his rolls. You never wake up in the middle of the night thinking, i cant believe im getting away with this . No, never. Reporter to successful and mainstream figures, like deepak chopra, who i just couldnt connect with. The universe is a nanotech workshop in the mind of god. Reporter thats where it gets hard to understand. Why . Reporter but it turns out, all along, there was a simple way to defang the voice in our heads. Something this fidgety, skeptical reporter always considered to be uniquely ridiculous. Meditation. Just breathe. Reporter but then i found out that millions of americans are doing it. Including lots of successful people. From the cofounder of twitter, to pro athletes like novac djokavic, to the u. S. Marines, to dr. Mehmet oz. The ability of stillness, of the deafening quiet of meditation, has endless benefits. And it allows you, perhaps for the first time, to realize that those dangerous voices you hear telling you that you arent good enough, are lying to you. Reporter i never thought id do this. But im about to give a meditation lesson on national tv. There are three steps. Number one, sit upright. It doesnt have to be crosslegged. You can do it in a chair, on the floor, whatever. Two, just try to feel your breath coming in and going out. And three, whenever your mind wanders, which it will a million times, simply return your attention to the breath. Think of this act of repeatedly hauling your attention back to the breath, like a bicep curl for your brain. Even if its just five minutes a day. And scientific studies show that meditation can, among other things, lower your Blood Pressure and boost your immune system. Check this out. Brain scans show that short, daily doses of meditation can literally grow the gray matter in areas associated with selfawareness and compassion. And shrink the areas associated with stress. And as dr. Oz explains, thats not all. Meditation doesnt just help with Blood Pressure, which it does. It doesnt just help with things like psoriasis, which is an autoimmune disease of your skin. How can meditation help that . Because it changes how your body innately responds to the world outside of it. Reporter so, whats it done for me, the guy who once had a panic attack in front of 5 Million People . Meditation has helped me slow down that the good stuff in my life has become much more vivid. From the fact that abc news lets me be the coanchor of nightline. To simply eating cookies with my wife. To playing with our cats, even if they dont like it as much as i do. So, dan, you and i talk about this a lot. Yeah. But five minutes. Yeah. I say five minutes. Everybody has five minutes. Nobodys so busy they cant do five minutes. And i saw benefits right away. Chief among them, i was able to focus on whats going on right now instead of being lost in memories of the past and fantasies about the future. Why only 10 happier . Its slightly tongue and cheek. But anybody on wall street will tell you 10 is a pretty good return on investment. And elite athletes tell you if you can be 10 more clear and more energetic, you win. All right, dan. Youre going to have more on nightline. So many people are weighing in online with you to talk about this. And you can read about his experience in the new book 10 happier. Thanks, dan. And when we come back, a crime at joel osteens megachurch . One of the Ten Commandments broken . Well tell you which one in our instant index. [ mawhile a body in motionat restends to stay in motion.
