Reporter while they investigate what happened and who is responsible, it decided to keep the gates wide open. As a precaution, were trying to minimize impact to our customers, no matter what it is. The inmates broke out of their first floor cell late wednesday. Police said they carefully planned and they were patient to use bed sheets to get out the window. We believe theyd been cutting for quite a while. They were able to cut both bars there and then cut through the metal here. And so they had an opening of about this distance and another equal distance there. This is pretty heavy iron. Theyve been working on it for a while and we dont know what type of tool they had. Im sure it had to have been something metal because they were cut clean through. The cell was built in 1958. Dogs picked up their scent and followed it. Both men are considered dangerous. He was chasing a 28yearold who had taken off on a skateboard when he was approached for causing a disturbance. The suspect hit the officer with the skateboard knocking him unconscious. This is the first time in a long time we have been hit with a tragedy of this magnitude. Its just comforting for us as members of the Police Department to know were right there at our brothers side. All lanes in central express way are closed after a deadly car crash happened east of north bernardo avenue. An eastbound driver lost control and hit a tree in the center median.
