KGO Good Morning America May 6, 2015

Double elimination. And for the shark, is it all a showmance or real romance as hidden cameras catch an i love you offstage with robert and kym. Both couples fly all night. To be here live only on gma. And we do say good morning, america. We want to get right to the breaking news on the copilot who deliberately crashed the plane into the alps, killing everyone on board. His flight hours before the crash may have been a practice run for the Deadly Mission to come. David kerley starts us off. Good morning, david. Reporter was it a practice run or did the copilot lose his nerve . On the first flight of the morning. He set the plane on controlled descent on the flight. Could this crash scene been in germany that day . The new report says on the first flight from dusseldorf to barcelona, the copilot was told to lower the plane. He spun the dial from 37,000 feet to 100 feet. He left it there for three seconds. Minutes later, down to 100 feet before back up to a normal flight. This was clearly a dress rehearsal. On the return flight lubitz again sets the dial to 100 feet but this time he leaves it there until it crashes into the mountain killing all 150 onboard. The report from french authorities makes no conclusion as to whether this was a practice run on that earlier flight. But it raises the debate should pilots ever be alone in the cockpit . George. Now to the latest on the terror attack in texas. Isis has claimed responsibility and were learning about an american recruiter who may have helped inside the attack. Brian ross has been investigating and is here. Good morning, brian. Reporter good morning, robin. Our investigation found a mysterious isis recruiter, an american fugitive from minneapolis, who goes by the name of miski may have played a crucial role. In the texas attack from his hideout overseas. He posted this picture of himself with a snake. Hes been wanted by the fbi for the last six years. Now hes emerged as one of the most significant figures in the effort by isis to use social media to recruit. Young americans to its ranks. Hes been pushing for violence for many months. For as long as we have been following him, hes been asking for individuals to commit violence. Reporter Authorities Say his real name is mohamed hassan. An fbi fugitive since 2009 when he left the twin cities to join terror groups in africa. Messages obtained by abc news between miski and the texas ring leader, elton simpson, show miski pointing to the texas cartoon contest and calling for an attack. Its time for brothers in the u. S. To do their part, he wrote. Two days later, miski writes to simpson, one individual is able to put a whole nation on to its knees. Very very effective. I call him a recruiter. I call him a a propagandist. An inciter. Reporter the day before the attack, this picture posted with a snake and his message was, may allah protect us from the snakes of the hereafter. Simpson tweeted back, amen, bro. Amen. Officials say the fbi has been monitoring simpson and his social media messaging with miski and others. Simpson was not under 24hour surveillance and at the time deemed to be no real threat. According to people briefed on the case, robin. Thank you, brian. To the Severe Weather slamming the south. Tornadoes, flash floods. More dangerous weather in the forecast. Rob marciano tracking it all. Good morning, george. 1 of 7 tornadoes that touched down in texas. This is big springs. This is up the road. This is what it looked like. Amazing video. No major damage or injuries with this. Certainly a sight to behold. Moving very, very quickly off to the north and east. Giving Storm Chasers a run for their money. The threat stretches up into the gut of tornado alley. Northern texas. Parts of oklahoma. Into kansas. Large hail damaging wind. A few isolated tornadoes. Heavy rain. Flooding last night outside norman, oklahoma. They had up to five inches of rain. Cars having a difficult time getting through the water. These are not dry thunderstorms. We will see more in the way of rain today. Two to three inches or more. As they roll through the area. Also watching, robin, a disturbance off the coast of florida. Could be something tropical. More about that in a few minutes. Now to the trip to the park that almost turned tragic for two little boys. A big tree suddenly cracking. Falling on them in a boston area park injuring one of the boys seriously. The frightening incident caught on camera. Tom llamas is in central park with more on that. Good morning, tom. Reporter robin, good morning to you. That tree was massive. Similar to this tree behind me. Look how big it is. Eyewitnesses say there was no warning. Just a cracking sound. And the tree started to tumble. The only thing in its way, small children. Its the heartstopping video that might make any parent think twice before sending their children to play outside. Watch again. A giant horse chestnut tree crashing down on two young boys in the middle of the playground just outside of boston. Some of the kids in the park barely get away. Look closer. There are children directly under the tree when the trunk slams into the sand. Within seconds, adults from all over the park race over to try to rescue the trapped children. Pulling out 8yearold diego ruiz. A tree fell on me and my head. Reporter and 2yearold david. His skull is cracked. A little bit cracked and part of his ear is not that good. Thanks to god, he started speaking. Reporter the playground was recently renovated. The park officials closing down the park to inspect every tree. As this Youtube Video shows, when trees start to break, theres little time to run. While falling trees and branches in public parks are rare, they can be dangerous and deadly. An estimated 25 to 35 people die each year due to falling trees. Usually in Severe Weather or right after. Thats when trees are most vulnerable. Like in this video after a heavy rain. Mother nature is the one yelling timber. And this morning, its still unclear exactly why that tree fell. Some people say the roots looked rotten. Others wonder if it was the harsh winter and record snowfall that hit the boston area. Robin. Many were wondering about that. Now, amy with the mornings other top stories. Big news about drones. Thats right. Word of a major shift by the faa. It means we could be one step closer to receiving deliveries by drone. After much resistance, the faa is announcing a plan to study drone flights. That could beyond the sight of the operator. Those flights are currently banned. Amazon and google are hoping the faa reverses the ban to clear the way for automated drones to deliver the packages. A new york man has pled guilty to a federal charge of aiming a laser pointer at three commercial jets over laguardia. He could face two years in prison. A Police Officer in idaho is the latest to be gunned down in the line of duty. Sergeant greg moore was shot in the head in a routine traffic stop. The suspect, an excon, then stole the officers gun and the police car. His death is just two days after a new york city Police Officer died from his injuries he suffered in a shooting. For the first time ever, regulators in droughtstricken california have imposed sweeping new restrictions on water use. They aim to slash water use by 25 . Encouraging homeowners to let their lawns die. And by placing a limit on watering on public property. An unusual crash in california. An suv plowed into the front of this convenience store. Watch the driver jump out, leap over the wreckage, and walk over to the refrigerator to grab some beer. He eventually took off in the truck. Police arrested him just a short time later. Ooh. And finally, a man snorkeling in the Colorado River got the fright of his life. He was certain he had found evidence of a serious crime. He called 911, reporting human skeletons in the water. Emergency responders raced to the scene. Their attitude changed a bit when they saw the skeletons were sitting perfectly in lawn chairs on the bottom of the river. Yeah, they were fake. One was actually holding a sign that read, bernie, living the dream in the river. Any guess on that reference . Oh, weekend at bernies. Very good, robin. Weekend at bernies. That was what they were referring to. Not sure why they did it. Kind of surprised someone found it. Thank you, amy. Lets get to george. The latest official candidate for president , Mike Huckabee. Former governor of arkansas. Baptist preacher who plays the bass. Announced yesterday in his hometown of arkansas. A speech filled with folksy shots. At his rivals. Lets take a look. I dont have a global foundation. Or a taxpayerfunded paycheck to live off of. I dont come from a Family Dynasty but a working family. I grew up blue collar, not blue blood. And governor Mike Huckabee joins us. Family foundation, hillary. Blue blood, i guess that was jeb bush. And the speech was filled with shots at the senators running, as well. Youre not Holding Anything back this time. Well, its not that im going after anybody. Im speaking the obvious. If a person has a job that the taxpayers are paying for, shouldnt that person do the job . If theyre not going to do the job and show up for work do you get to get paid for not showing up for work . The senators should do one or the other . I think people have to choose. Its a matter of integrity to say, i dont want this job that i just got elected to. I think i want a different job. Okay, then resign the job you have and go out there and seek the one you want. You ran for president in 2008. Won iowa. Thanks for reminding me. I remember how that turned out. You passed in 2012. Why run now, not then . I think im better prepared. Organizationally. I think im better prepared in terms of national recognition. And, in 2012, i really thought, george, it would be much more difficult to defeat a sitting president than a lot of republicans thought. And i did not see that the republicans had geared up with the right message. And i thought that there was going to be the normal freeforall with all the money going to the predicted candidates. It just wasnt the right time for me. You mentioned organization. Last time around, you won iowa. Shined in the debates. The rap on you was you couldnt raise money and you couldnt build a national organization. Have you fixed that . I think we have. We have a national organization. We have a talented team of people running the campaign. We have people who have real experience behind them and in president ial campaigns. National campaigns. I think more than anything i go into this not as the unknown governor from arkansas that people had never heard of. That had to do something on the stage at the debate just to get attention. I was getting two minutes to the 15 minutes that mccain, romney, and giuliani were getting back in the early days of the campaign. Now people, i think, have a different perspective. They know me for what i have said. What i have talked about on television and radio and written in books. Its a different environment for me. Than it was before. Like bill clinton, you were born in hope, arkansas. Thats where you announced yesterday night. You are selling a tshirt. Defeat the clinton machine. What do you know about challenging the clintons that others may not . As you well know, from having worked for them, the clintons know how to win. They play to win. They play hard. They answer every attack immediately and vociferously. They dont hold anything back. When i ran in arkansas, i ran against what had been built up as a clinton machine. They owned the politics of the state. They had gone to washington by that point. They had. But bill clinton was governor for 12 years. All of the people in state government, he had hired or appointed. I inherited this extraordinary challenge of a 90 democratic legislature. The most lopsided in all of america. More that massachusetts, maine, vermont, california and oregon. And so i walked into that environment, but i was able to get things done because i learned how to govern in a difficult environment. Thank you, governor huckabee. Thank you, george. Back to robin. Major fallout from the big fight. Manny pacquiao and his team hit with a lawsuit by boxing fans who say he hid a serious injury. Theyre seeking millions in damages. Ryan smith has that story. Reporter this morning, some boxing fans looking to throw a knockout punch at manny pacquiao. Theres the mayweather right hand. Reporter filing this more than 5 million Class Action Lawsuit claiming he and his representatives cheated the public by hiding a shoulder injury. An injury he didnt reveal until after that unanimous decision loss to Floyd Mayweather jr. Three weeks before the fight, theres a tear in my right shoulder. Reporter the fight pulling in more than 430 million total. Including 300 million from pay per view. Now, the lawsuit alleges potentially hundreds of thousands of fans who paid to see the socalled fight of the century and bet good money on it were victimized by team pacquiaos failure to disclose and to cover up his injuries. From the fan perspective, given the money involved, given the money they spent, they at least wished they knew this going in. Reporter pacquiaos camp saying in a statement, the allegations are demonstrably false. As long as the fight goes on, its hard to say that what they bought wasnt what they were promised. Reporter its not just the fans that are angry. The Nevada Athletic Commission has asked the state Attorney Generals Office to investigate why pacquiao checked no on this prefight form asking if he had injuries to his shoulder. He could be facing fines or a suspension from boxing. There may be hope for a round two. Mayweather says he would consider a rematch after pacquiao heals. Remember the 250,000 bet between Donny Wahlberg and p. Diddy . No word on whether diddys offering a refund. I dont think so. Youre a lawyer. Any merit to the suit . Well have to see. I think theres something to it. He didnt reveal it. People relied on his health in that fight. So it may have legs. This is an unbelievable story. Good morning to you. We turn to a florida mother held hostage by her boyfriend, unable to call 911. She came up with quite the creative way to order up some help. Gio benitez has the story. Reporter at first glance, it looked like dozens of other orders. A small handtossed classic pizza with pepperoni. But the sharpeyed employees of this pizza hut in florida noticed something unusual. The order comes through, she had edited her ticket. On the bottom, it said, hostage help. On the top, it said, get 911, help. Reporter check out the hidden messages. Above the pizza it reads please help, get 911 to me. Directly below the order, 911 hostage help. Ive been with the company for 28 years. I have never seen Something Like that come through. Reporter the desperate messages from a mother held hostage, allegedly by this man, her boyfriend. Just blocks away from the restaurant, held at knife point with her children. Unable to use her phone. To make calls or texts. Only thing she was allowed, use the pizza hut app to order a pie to feed her kids. Thats when she took action, messaging her s. O. S. I dont think i would have ever thought of it. Something she did so naturally. Reporter pizza hut became the pizza police. Calling 911. Giving the address of the order. The cops arriving at the home just in time to rescue the mother and her three children. Nickerson has been arrested. And charged with several felonies. As for the pizza heroes . If we didnt have that, who is to say how she could have got out . Reporter for Good Morning America, gio benitez, abc news, new york. A special delivery. Unbelievable thinking. The cops were fantastic. I love that story. Rob, youre keeping an eye on the tropics . Florida anything but the Sunshine State in the last few days. Its been stormy. This shot out of west palm beach. The waves crashing. The winds blowing. That will continue today. This little sliver of red, that is 80degree water. We need that for tropical development. We probably wont get this thing to blow up into a fullon tropical storm. It may be named in the next three or four days. It will bring stormy conditions across parts of the carolinas.
