((shakala alvaranga)) >> paul and denise, it took only a few minutes for a shouting match to ensue ... some parents were upset with the lack of communication last night. and left just as angry becas simply weren't being answered. what was supposed to be an informative meeting... clouded by frustration and anger. "we all want to know the answer!!!!" questions gone unanswered ... and many want to know ... just how serious is this mercury contamination. (( "i don't know what to whose gonna help us, whose gonna clean my house, whose gonna check my little kids.")) tanja's son touched the substance ... that set off a 20 hour quarantine at walter johnson junior high. "today he told me he gets headaches, he's naseaus, he has diarrhea. so, i'm kind of getting upset now." michael also got the call .... that his son was exposed to (( "he and 3 other kids, i'm guessing they were apart of the 9 pulled a side, saw like a silver dollar sized amount of a silvery glittery liquid.")) some expressed their appreciation for the dozens that worked tirelessly... (( "it just seems like a public hanging here, you know what i'm saying, the school, the principal, the epa.")) to make sure every child was safe. (( "as a team were giving we have no reason to lie.")) but others, didn't hold back. (( "they did nothing to prevent this. this is where the problem is." )) ((shakala alvaranga)) >> police are now working to figure out how the substance got into school ... and who brought it in. they ask that if there are items that you have ... that may be contaminated, to bring them to school tomorrow morning at 8. reporting live shakala alvaranga 8 news now. ((paul joncich)) >> she joins us live from the clark county school district headquarters with what they're saying. brittany? ((brittany edney)) >> when the school board meeting started-- the superintendent mentioned last night's situation at walter johnson but frankly, didn't say too much about whether or not the district made any mistakes. so we asked trustee patrice tew about some of the failures parents believed happened in her district--- but she doesn't have all the answers yet either. superintendent, ccsd "we have many challenges when it comes to events like this. we will be debriefing with all the officials involved next week to see how we can handle the situation better, to get feedback." ((brittany edney)) feedback from parents is not in short supply... with some wondering where district officials were when the school was going through an emergency this large.... that dragged on for so long. ((david gomez, did their job, the teachers held on and the principal did his job, but where was everybody else at? safely tucked in their bed." ((brittany edney)) we caught up with trustee patrice tew--who serves district e and walter johnson junior high school-- to see what she thought about the emergency incident. ((patrice tew, ccsd trustee, district e "in hindsight, there's probably always things that can be improved on as it should be, as the process moves forward, but i think they have tried to do their very best.")) "what will be different so you're more prepared next time? " so those are topics that are still going on." "a few children were instructed to strip down to their underwear for some of that went on and if that is part of procedure?" "that is something i can't speak to, i have no knowledge." "we also have some other complaints that children were being told that if they didn't be quiet, teachers were telling them that they would have to stay longer." "i can't speak to that either." ((brittany edney)) unsatisfied with responses from school officials, some worry horizon. ((david gomez, concerned resident "you're building your house on sand and a storm is coming." ((brittany edney)) >> with school out today and tomorrow---one thing we did learn is how students will have to make it up. 1 day will be excused due to the emergency, but the district says they plan to makeup the second day on november 8th. reporting live, brittany edney, ((paul joncich)) >> brittany, a lot of parents were angry about the food situation during the lockdown. did you get any answers on that? ((brittany edney)) >> tew defended snacks like the cinnamon rolls saying they are whole wheat and reduced sugar... but a lot of parents have told us they don't feel like that was enough. as for if they could have done she said, "perhaps." we'll send it back to you. ((paul joncich)) brittany, thank you. the school district has not said definitively if the school will be ready to open by monday. las vegas fire and rescue called the mercury sweep the largest decontamination incident in the history of the department. more than 12-hundred students and staff were screened by police, fire, and e-p-a officials./// ((denise valdez)) a major decision concerning sex education fo board trustees voted six to one... to opt-in for legislative support. that means.. it's up to parents to decide if their kids want to take part in sex education at clark county schools. parents hit the podium tonight to give their two cents... and they believe... that sex education,... begins at home: (("i think the bigger effect on teenage pregnancy comes from outside the sex education classes and i'm not quite sure there's anything our school system can do about that.")) edwards was the only one to vote "no."/// ((paul joncich)) taking a live look outside... a pleasant night in the valley. it was warm again today... but we could be looking forward to some more unseasonably cool weather in the not so distant future, tedd? ((rosa: s this bone and she opened it and showed me the different types of cells including the leukemia cells.)) the larochelles say rosa's most recent biopsy revealed she has a 97-percent survival rate.... ((lourdes: that was some good news right away you know within the circumstances.)) they are thankful for support from family, friends, and candlelighters - a local basically just say we're here to help you and what do you need?)) on saturday - the family will help to raise money for the group which helps families dealing with childhood cancer... ((lourdes: we want to help you know spread the word so that other families don't have to go through it alone..)) ((nat of dad and rosa at computer )) team rosa is gearing up for the superhero 5k...
