Troopers say the woman lost control. And rolled down a rock embankment. She was not wearing a seatbelt and thrown from the car. The ramps were closed for about three hours while police investigated. paul joncich the man accused of beating a man to death on the strip went before a Deangelo Mathews faces a murder charge after an altercation at the paris on may 3rd. Mathews was already in jail on an unrelated Home Invasion charge when metro police connected him to the incident on the strip. Authorities were called to the paris valet early one morning. After receiving reports of a man seriously hurt in a fight. The victim, 27 year old Dashawn Hawkins from san jose. Was taken to umc where he died from blunt head trauma. Paula Francis the blaze started around 1030 this morning near las vegas boulevard and charleston. 8 news now reporter karen castro is live at the scene with a closer look at the damage. Karen . karen castro the building is a total loss. At this time, its unclear where the fire started. But as you can second floor of the building. With flames spreading throughout the entire structure as well. Take a look at this video. It was taken moments after fire crews arrived on scene. You can see heavy smoke and flames through the roof. Las vegas fire and rfscue used a ladder truck to tackle the flames from high above, while other crews attacked from the ground. It took 50 firefighters about 30 minutes to put the fire out. No one was injured and the surrounding properties were not damaged. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigations. But fire inspectors have a good idea what sparked the flames. Tim Szymanski las vegas fire and rescue this morning was the coldest morning that weve had so far this season so there is probably a good chance that somebody was in there just trying to stay warm. Tim Szymanski with the las vegas fire and rescue says the department and the Property Owners were aware squatters had been staying at the abandoned building. He says the property has been vacant for about a year. Last july, szymanski says fire crews put out another fire at in that case, they also believe Homeless People were living in the building. karen castro fires started by squatters are not uncommon this time of year as they try to keep warm. Szymanski says it is unlikely for anyone to face arson charges because the fire was not intentionally started and they criminal intent. Slightly milder over to the east side but still chilly at this hour. Chilly for our regional temps too with neighborhood temps already cold in the central sections of the valley and chilly from mesquite all the way down to laughlin. Milder in death valley and chilly for pahrump and jean at this hour. Going to the radar and satellite. Some snow showers in the north part of the state. Good to see that as a low tracks through. Seeing some upper elevation snow showers in the central and lincoln county. Snow flurries or snow showers in our local mountain again overnight. But expecting maybe an inch or half and inch if we get some of those showers to turn to snow up there. We are tracking all the violent weather in the upper midwest at this hour. The darker blues is the heavier snow bands coming up from iowa all the way through wisconsin and michigan. Freezing rain now in the southern michigan. And the same storm system has a frontal boundary bringing severe storms again through the deep south. New years eve could be breezy. Heres what were anticipating for that night. Highs not warming up too much. Finally in the mid 50s by early next week with slight shower chances back again. That could mean more snow in the mountains. This cone zone has been a traffic nightmare for several months now. Demetria obilor has kept up with the construction on decatur since it started. Heres her latest update in Demetria Obilor decatur between sahara and charleston has been riddled with cones for the past several months. A major storm drain project has caused all sorts of delays, but fortunately everything is progressing on schedule. The southbound lane restriction between el parque avenue and sahara avenue will be in place for another six weeks. As crews work, expect delays in both directions of sahara at decatur for the next several months. The city expects decatur and the westbound segment of sahara to be resurfaced in the spring when the warmer weather returns. Construction is scheduled to finish up next september. Check out this giant squid, that was spotted at a japanese marina on christmas eve. Its a rare site because these massive creatures are typically found in the deep ocean. Monday officials showed the toy gun next to a real colt model to illustrate how similar they appear. sot prosecutor a short time ago we informed tamirs mother it was a tough conversation graphic in a statement through their attorneys tamirs family says they are quote saddened and disappointed by this outcomebut not surprised. The family is calling on the Justice Department to conduct what they call a real investigation. Jy cbs news, ny. Paula Francis earlier this month, lawyers for tamirs family released their own report. They dont think tamir reached for his waistband. The rice family also claims the prosecutor was abusing and manipulating the grand jury process to orchestrate a vote against indictment.
