Welcome to God's plan for your health with Dr Roger Velika president of tri live health and former chief of medical operations for the NASA space program this broadcast is devoted to helping you achieve optimal health according to God's design and biblical principles Let's join Dr Billiken Now Hello everybody welcome to the program well it happened again I'm just flabbergasted sometimes and you know I hope I don't come across like I think I'm a know it all or I'm the better doctor or something but I see some things that the medical profession is doing now and I just it just leaves me frustrated and puzzled and and and tearing my hair out I got a letter on one of my patients from a doctor that they had seen their regular internal medicine doctor and. And this was a letter from the doctor to the patient basically summarizing the visit in it the letter starts out saying you know you came to see me for a complaint of fatigue and basically a doctor says I couldn't find anything wrong I can't find anything that's causing the fatigue but all they did was just the basic you know blood tests looking for a disease that's what doctors are trained to do is find a disease and you know there's no disease called fatigue out there so so when you go see a regular doctor for that complaint they really don't know what to do they're not trained to address that issue in and other than stimulant drugs there's no prescription they give you for fatigue so they're really kind of lost without the tools. So stocks are said you know I did basic test I can't find an explanation so can't help you there just kind of kind of blew it off that's what the you know the patient went to see him for but then the next pair of says but I'm very concerned about your cholesterol you know is higher I like it to be below 200. And you know basically waxed eloquent over the patient's cholesterol levels in the letter and then strongly insisted that the patient start on one of the cholesterol Staton drugs. And that's what I want to talk about tonight I mean there's so many points to make on this it's just it's hard to know where to start I mean 1st of all the patient didn't come see the doctor for cholesterol I don't even know why the doctor was testing for cholesterol for a complaint of fatigue that's you know high cholesterol doesn't cause fatigue. And so why so why are we spending patients' moneys on that test when it has nothing to do with what they came to see the doctor for other than the doctor probably knows well I can't figure out the fatigue but if I can find something else wrong at least I can prescribe a drug for him and then the drug they chose the stat drugs cause fatigue I mean they block the body. His ability to make a key energy anti-oxidant co-incide Q 10 and one of the main side effects from those drugs is his muscle aches and fatigue and brain fog and not feeling good so why if the patient's coming to you for that complaint of fatigue which you then to be excited about putting them on a drug that would make them even more fatigued for a problem that they didn't come see you for. So it's just it's just very frustrating and I just you know how are they being trained now that that's how they approach a problem like that I mean fatigue is probably one of the most common complaints that people have when they come to see the doctor I'm tired I don't feel good I don't have good energy it's hard to get through the day you know I get sleepy and tired after lunch it's etc And and but again to figure out fatigue you've got to think you've got to understand how the body works you've got to get back into the basic biology and physiology and biochemistry so it's it's not something that that again you can just hear the symptom and go oh here's the drug for that symptom and I'm afraid in modern medicine with one size fits all government directed insurance controlled medicine that that's how doctors are now trained and I've seen that in the residents that come visit us here in our office as part of their training that nobody's teaching them how to be a detective nobody's teaching them how to think how to analyze how to solve problems it's more of you know give me a symptom that I know what drug to throw at it and you know in in 5 minutes we're done and I can move on to the next patient and that's unfortunately how it seems that they're being treated now fatigue is it is a complicated issue I mean it comes down to the the cells ability to convert oxygen and nutrients into energy. So it comes down to sell mitochondrial function but but there's there's several categories of things that can influence that the the 1st category is the body's ability to obtain the gest absorb and use the key nutrients and so if 1st of all if you're on the wrong kind of diet and you're not getting the nutrients your body needs to manage these prophecies that can certainly make you tired so if you're eating junk and sugar and you're your nutrient depleted that can certainly make you tired if you're not digesting and absorbing the nutrients well so if there's something wrong with your digestive track where you've got malabsorption or leaky gut or one of these things. And then if you've got some genetic issue that that affects the way your mitochondria works maybe your body doesn't use the b. Vitamins for methylation well or you've got some other block with amino acids or or something like that. So so I like to think of an old fashioned steam coal burning locomotive sitting at the tracks and it's not moving in someone's come to me and say hey doc can you figure out why my my engine's not moving which is my analogy for someone being tired fatigued and so the 1st thing I wonder well is all are all the pieces and parts there are they are they working right you know is there coal in the Tender Is there a fire in the furnace is there water in the boiler do you have the things you need and are they working right for you to generate energy so that would be step number one and that's not probably the most common issue with fatigue but it is something to consider and there are tests that you can run that analyze all of that there's a a test called a urine organic acids or a metabolic panel now not the blood test metabolic panel that looks at kidney and liver this is this is one that's a nutrition. No metabolic panel but it will look at all the pieces and parts of mitochondrial energy production and show you have something's out of balance or something's missing and it's a very common test that doctors like myself who practice nutritional functional medicine use so that would be the number one category are all the pieces and parts they are are they working do you have what you need to make energy now the 2nd thing is let's say your steam locomotive sitting at the track and it's all fired up and got a full head of steam on and and plenty of coal and everything's all ready to go but it's still not moving and so the next category the next question is well is it being given the correct signal maybe it hasn't been given the signal to go and it still thinks it's supposed to be sitting there not moving What are those signals in the body well that's your neurotransmitters and your hormones so here's probably a more common area but what if someone's low thyroid or what have someone's adrenal function isn't working correctly and so they don't have the proper cortisol or they're not managing their minerals correctly or there are brain chemicals as well that are signals for energy and movement dopamine in particular so if they're low in dopamine or their brain neuro transmitters are out of balance and this is why the stimulant medicines work for when people are tired because they give the signals of dopamine and adrenaline and so you you push things by pushing the signals but all of that again can be measured now it's hard to directly measure dopamine but you can measure dopamine by products in the urine and and see how things are gone but you can certainly measure thyroid and you can measure adrenal and you can measure other hormones that have to do with with energy you can look at insulin that's another hormone that directs how the body uses sugar and fats for energy so all of that can be looked at and typically if if the doctor just takes a few minutes to talk with the patient you can get a pretty good idea of whether one of those hormone systems is out of balance because they come with other unique symptoms. Of of of low dopamine has a sort of a dysthymia fatigue attention deficit disorder cravings low thyroid is is low but habit lism weight gain cold hands and feet dry skin constipation brain fog these sorts of things and adrenal often comes with similar low metabolism symptoms as thyroid but also has a lot of stress related symptoms and other Hourman things so and insulin resistance has its own combination of things now that's the one thing that checking cholesterol in a patient might help because not so much the cholesterol level but if the triglycerides are very high it says the bodies have a hard time burning fat for energy and that's a clue that there may be high insulin or insulin resistance going on so that might be one reason to look at cholesterol but not so much for the cholesterol but for the triglycerides part of that test. So those are some things that could be measured and again the issue there is that most doctors don't know how to test for thyroid accurately and completely they just basically do a screening Tazz which is really a very poor test it's called a t.s.h. Stands for thyroid stimulating hormone and it's really a very weak test and that's what most doctors are trained to rely upon and so it's really not a good test for diagnosing it's maybe Ok for screening but I would never base treatment decisions on that test alone and then most doctors don't have a clue how to check for adrenal function they know how to test for the extremes of adrenal disease but when it comes down to how well's the adrenal functioning they don't know how to do that they don't understand the saliva testing or some of the other very good tests that are out there so that's why when you come in and complain of fatigue they're kind of stuck and then the so we've got the. He says in parts of the locomotive we got the signals to go and what if what if all that looks good and the person still fatigued Well what else could keep the locomotive from moving something obstructing the tracks something blocking it so here we get into something toxic infectious something that is. Affecting the cells mitochondria ability to make energy so here you get into the toxins of environmental chemicals pesticides heavy metals lead mercury things like that directly affect mitochondrial and cell membrane function here you get into a ton of food toxins food allergies food sensitivities that could be messing up immune function and and messing up cell nutrient ability here you get into chronic infections whether it's viral things or mold or fungus or or chronic infections like strap or lie or staff or mycoplasma all these chronic fatigue sorts of things there's all kinds of infections that can sabotage the body's energy production by directing that energy production in other ways so it's a it's an evaluation but if you break it down into those 3 categories and and take a good history it takes time it takes an analytical investigative approach but you can figure out fatigue and in most cases put it all back together and help the person have good energy and feel back to normal again but you're not going to do it by checking somebodies cholesterol and putting them on a stat drug that's just absolutely. I don't know ridiculous I mean it it it's it's sort of a bait and switch you go to the doctor for one thing and well I can't fix that but I do say you have high cholesterol so here's a drug for that and maybe the doctor feels like he's he's doing the right thing I'm sure he thinks he's doing the right thing and feels good because he's doing something to help. You but he's certainly not addressing what you you came there for so. The state of Georgia was experiencing a severe drought so the governor decided to lead a prayer rally asking God to send rain on their land this may sound unusual but why shouldn't a governor pray for rain in fact why should we pray for rain or anything else that we may need the Lord wants us to talk with him about the many things that challenge us sharing these things with God is really pretty simple there's no special place we need to be or language we need to use God just wants us to be real with him knowing that he loves us and wants the best for us she shares us and understands This is 1220 k. L d c and 95.3 f.m. Crawford Broadcasting Company. Welcome to holy ground featuring the preaching ministry of Dr Richard Robinson senior pastor at Northside Baptist Church in North Clinton. I'm your host David Armstrong you can be sure sin is always worse than we think it is today's lesson will help you move beyond a shallow understanding of sin so you can stop making superficial excuses for sinning as you learn today every sin plunges you deeper into evil. And like quicksand the longer you stay in the deeper you'll sink and the less likely you will survive this lesson is a matter of life and death and we trust that God will use it to help believers get the victory without further delay here now is Dr Robinson with his lesson sins deep character. The Bible teaches 4 levels of sin here they are level one just low enough to register on the conscience is to sin against what we have learned this is to sin against our principles level 2 a little deeper is to sin against our own life this is a sin against our own soul. Level 3 sinking deeper into the dark chilly waters is to sin against those we love this is a sin against our family and friends and Level 4 is the deepest darkest region of all the very of business of sin is to sin against the Lord the point to remember is that all sin plunges to level 4 but we do not perceive all sin that way God's Spirit makes every sin a level 4 offense Romans 713 for example dissent against what you have learned which is level one is a sin against something meant to help your life which is level 2 which is a sin against your teacher who cares about you level 3 which is a sin against the Lord who gave you the teacher in the 1st place and that's a level 4 yes all sin plunges to level 4 The irony of this order is that often we treat levels 12 and 3 more severely than Level 4 the depth of sin is the discovery that it is against God 1st and foremost May we never forget that sin all sin is a treasonous act against God such sensitivity will ensure that we never know the depths of sin in the time remaining let me share with you sins deep character in 3 illuminating illustrations 1st sin is deep in the core of our nature when we pick up an apple with a worm hole in it we are inclined to think that a worm crawled to the surface of the apple and bore the hole from the outside but this is not generally the case rather a worm lays an egg in an apple blossom and the egg is hatched in the core of the apple the hole that you see indicates that the worm has bored its way out from within the apple we are no different that was what David came to realize about his great sin. Then and some 51 he looks back to the day the worm of sin was laid as an egg in his nature behold I was shape in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me 1st 5 he still further realised that until he dealt with the sin at its core he could not stop the holes it made in his life so sin is deep in the core of our nature 2nd sin is deep in the lusts of our body in the book of view from the zoo Gary Richmond a former zoo keeper wrote I quote recommends go through a glandular change at about 24 months after that they often attack their owners since a 30 pound wreck can can be equal to a 100 pound dog in a scrap I feel compelled to mention the change coming to a pet wreck Koon owned by a young friend of mine Julie she listened politely as I explained the coming danger never forget her answer it will be different for me and she smiled as she added band it wouldn't hurt me he just went and 3 months later Julie underwent plastic surgery for facial lacerations when her adult red coon attacked her for no apparent reason band it was released into the world Richmond then makes this point sind too often comes dressed in an adorable guys as we play with it it is easy to say it will be different for me End of quote you know our body is like an adorable raccoon people today pamper their body don't they they feed their body whatever it wants they play with their body but at some point the body turns on everyone and in some cases it is glandular just like with the record in some time back I read that Hollywood actor Dustin Hoffman finally feels relief from his raging hormones he claims that for many years he indulged in. Sexual escapades because of a body chemical testosterone Evidently he thought he had more than his fair share of this body chemical with Agent lowering his testosterone He says he now is free to focus on the finer things of life like gardening he said there recently he walked outside and notice flowers when before all he noticed was girls it is true that glands secrete harmonise that Dr bodily desires it is not true that we can conveniently blame our conduct on our glands David says in some 1911 the I word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against the so sin is deep in the core of our nature and deep in the lusts of our body and 3rd sin is deep in the sea of our past in 799 the American ship Nancy was captured by a British cutter in the Caribbean the officers were arrested and charged with carrying contraband However before they reach port they managed to toss their incriminating papers overboard and forge some new ones as the exciting trial drew toward the end it was evident that all of the crew would be released because of the lack of evidence the papers produced did not list any contraband but just before the judge raised his gavel to acquit them another British ship brought in a harpoon shark when the shark was slit open the original papers of the Nancy were found lodged in its insides the papers were rushed to the trial and arrived just in time for a conviction can you imagine the shock to the American officers when those papers arrived in court they thought those papers were long gone the vast sea did not hide their crime after all. Human lives are just like this captured ship people think they can throw the evidence of their sin overboard they toss their cargo of disobedience into different seas thinking it will never be dredged up against them 1st there's the sea of secrecy down it sinks into deep mysterious hiding places but God will find it and actually God will get it he already kno
