Well. Good evening to our listeners this is Lauren Schmidt from the Cayman news department evening I spoke with the public information officer with Humboldt County as Office of Emergency Services Amy Conlon she shares the latest update so we just got off of our latest conference call with p.g. Any and so our latest update is that it looks like we'll be facing a power shutdown anywhere between 9 pm and 11 pm this evening and that's because of those changing weather patterns so they're keeping us up to date and holding off that power shut down as long as possible so a rule for that so that's when the shutdown should begin as of right now and of course that's always subject to change because of the weather and then on the other end of things it looks like the weather right now is going to clear up on Sunday October 27th around 4 pm at that time the genie crews will be able to inspect the lines in order to attempt to reenergize ations so they'll have to look at the look at the system look at the lines and pending any damage to the system they'd be looking at power restoration for our county within 48 hours that would put aside so that would put aside Tuesday around 4 pm at the latest looking like right now and what are the odds that it may change again. You know it's changed several times today and it is a weather event and so it's likely that this information will continue to change and we're grateful that they continue to push back are our outages the weather changes so we are thankful for that but just you know we will try to keep the community as up to date as possible as always we're putting out new information on our pages as it becomes available on just about to post the snow timing on our Facebook page and so we'll we'll keep you all up today as we get new information once that is put in place the wind event that we are on red red flag warning for will last is projected to last through Monday afternoon and so then after that time p.g. And e. Will have to inspect the lines for any damage any downed lines anything like that before they can begin to truly begin the restoration efforts so we are expected to be without power for several days so sometime between 7 pm and 8 pm tonight is the latest information is when we'll lose power this evening and then the wind event is going to last through Monday afternoon and then they'll be able to start inspecting the lines so it'll be longer than that before power is back up and re stored but that's when the restoration efforts will begin excellent and for folks who will be without power and vice you think they should know. I'm slightly So there's still some time a little bit of time before the power goes out if you haven't already there are some things that you can do to get food and water for your household so we recommend one gallon per person per day to have a home. We also recommend feeling up your vehicle if you haven't getting some cash out when the power goes down sometimes the ability for places to take debit and credit cards is diminished and so having cash on hand ensures that you'll still be able to access the places that do remain open during the outage and you know gather some gather some activities some games make it for. And we do recommend that people try to stay off the roads during the outage the traffic signals will likely be down and so we were you know if you have to drive make sure you treat every intersection as a 4 way stop but it's definitely going to be more dangerous conditions and we also need the roads clear for emergency services so we recommend people stay off those as much as possible Speaking of emergency services we want to reiterate that 911 is only for true emergencies and not to be used as an information line and so if you are looking for information the humble County Office of Emergency Services Web pages and social media pages are the most up today and that's where you can find the latest information regarding the outage for residents who have special needs and it's my understanding is there's going to be community resource centers if you want to kind of give us an outline that's correct so starting tomorrow again we'll have the arcade a community resource center open from 8 am to 8 pm we will have the Eureka Municipal Auditorium in Eureka open from 10 am to 4 pm and then the humble a fire classroom in your ego will be open for medical device charging from 10 am to 6 pm tomorrow and there are also some other centers that will be opening up in Fortuna and they can leave will blue lake and Willow Creek and who but as well so those the complete list of our community resource centers is on our Facebook page so we continue to update that as more come online but there are definitely some spots you can go to in the county to get those charging needs fulfilled and Amy at this time is there any other pertinent information listenership Now if you want to reiterate only call 911 if you're experiencing a true emergency and to really treat those street lights and traffic signals as a 4 way stop we are anticipating more higher calls all human and possibly more accidents occurring during this time and so we just want people to be safe Also along those lines. And if you do encounter a downed power line don't approach it leave that area immediately and call 911 to report its location and we will have crews available to respond to those. It's going to get cold tonight it's going to dip into the the twenty's and thirty's tonight and so just make sure that you are doing what you can to keep yourself warm and being aware of those fire dangers we do have the high winds we are under the red flag warning so if you're going to use a wood stove or a fireplace make sure that you have the euro your carbon monoxide detectors working your have it properly ventilated that you're not using your generators or camp stoves indoors and you're careful in refueling those we just discourage use of candles altogether because a fire escape but just never leave those unattended if you do if you do need to use candles as far as communication do we anticipate people to lose cell phone service or land lines to be deactivated or stuff like that. We don't anticipate that yet the last outage it seems like most of the cell phones were still active but it's a dynamic and ever changing situation with the weather event this time it's unclear whether or not that service will end up being the last and so we want people to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. If you sign up for humbled alerts if you haven't already signed up for humbled alerts you can request those to go not only to a cell phone but also to a home phone and your e-mail and so that helps you kind of cover the gamut as far as if your cell phone goes down you can still receive e-mail alerts if the you know Internet is down the whole County Office of Emergency Service is still going to put humbled alerts out so if you can't access our Facebook page or our website will still try to get that information to you in any way that we can actually and and folks can do that by going to Humboldt gov dot org slash alert Absolutely that's where it's located humble gov dot org slash alert. Thank you so much Amy and we will be in touch to keep the listeners updated All right thank you have a safe outage came a news would like to remind our listeners to stay calm and prepare anyone with questions comments are concerned can call us at k m u d at 707-123-3911 we'll help to answer the questions to the best of our ability. And thank you for and for that update very informational and there's hope everybody remaining safe and is prepared in every way possible we're going to get right back into the rig on vinyl and start out with Prince Farai and under heavy Mariners is the name of this song. Yes. These. Guys. In. King. Can't. Believe. He Marley a song called work from his album uprising the majority of the phone calls I've been receiving are from seniors who are going to be cold when the power goes off and it's going to be a cold night and they have no other way to heat their house man that is upsetting to me to think that this is happening. This is not right there should be some resource center for seniors to go to and be warm and the only advice I can think of really is put as many layers on as possible and be warm it's layers and layers my house is cold during the winter because my roof is bad my stove is bad and I can't afford to fix it so I had no fires all winter long and my else was quite often in the thirty's and forty's degrees it was horrible but the layers got me through it. There's hope that everybody stays warm tonight takes care of each other and if you're off the grid and you have the extra room in your house and you know somebody elderly who's going to be in the cold and dark please take care of them as it's the right thing to do. Well on thinking the power is going to go off in 5 minutes than to say patient is palatable as hope it doesn't. But go ahead and take bets I mean try to make at least a kernel of fun out of something so stressful but next we're going to listen to a couple soundtrack from some reggae movies 1st when we're going to hear from is from the movie prisoner in the street and we're going to hear 3rd World song called Cold Sweat How ironic and and we're going to follow that up with the harder they come as a song off of that soundtrack by the slickers and Jimmy Cliff is on this album Johnny too bad so let's get into 2 songs from reggae movies. I. Don't know. Yeah.
