They're talking about how crazy it's going to be I heard that the networks were going to be down there and NASA was going to be there as well that's cool because we got like an x. NASA guy coming on later Astro projector Albert Taylor really looking forward to talking to him but beforehand we want to bring in the Star Gazer and the Star Gazer is right here out a little Kentucky in fact he used to work at this radio station here for like 20 some odd years his name is Mark Steven Williams And he's of Star Gazer astronomy alove the name Star Gazer that's hilarious but Mark is an amateur astronomer and broadcaster and I've met him a couple times myself and you know I was in this market years ago as well and I didn't know he had so many credits so I gotta say these all before I enter to some because I'm proud of them is as well but for nearly 20 years Marc he's been present in astronomy and science community outreach programs and I knew about this with schools and public libraries park departments planetariums observatory observatories and lots of private events I know he gets around and does that much really really cool and that's one of the reasons why I called him to say tell us about the solar eclipse it's coming but I didn't realize a lot more of his background which I knew he was in radio and t.v. But his career just bands for a long long long time he was in media outlets like in l.a. Sandals a San Diego California you know in different areas of California of course he. And loyal and his most recent position which was a major pride cast company's operations an affiliate relations director for statewide radio news network based here in Louisville and the what's up with the Star Gazer astronomy and star gazing radio feature is currently in pre-production is going to be debuting and in January of 2018 so I'm very proud of him for that and very happy for him too it's hard to do these kinds of things and for him to pull things out of thin air like that I'm I'm really glad for him he authored the feature article out of this world outreach which appeared in the May 2014 issue of Sky and Telescope magazine that's a big deal and the editor of the contest corner column for World radio magazine 2006 and 8 and that throughout 2008 that's really really cool so I am very proud to bring on. That's right that's right you know just like we're just like what we're doing here this morning so or tonight or whatever the heck it is you know so well well I'd like for you to tell me about all the friends and all the people who are going to hang it out in Hopkinsville Kentucky and all the other places where everybody is in the pathway of this solar eclipse I mean this is a big big deal and a lot of people are talking about it and I know that even though that pathway Ganz across the planet it's also a very very big deal and Hopkinsville Kentucky not far from here I know you're going to be there tell me you know I heard NASA is going to be there all the major networks are going to be there and as you and I know that's a tiny little town that you know we might pass through unblinking forget that we went through there you know I think I think the population county of 5 because Bill is about 30 or 40000 people if if if my memory serves me correctly and it's interesting because and it's a it's amazing to me that now we're just a week or a from. The you know we call it to us the 2017 total solar eclipse and I started looking for places to play and do my thing during the eclipse 5 years ago wow I called the I called the Christian County Tourism Department and I talked to a young lady down there called name Cheryl Cook and she said Mark we started getting inquiries about this I mean a you know it's not a thing normally it's just if we astronomy geeks you know and the guys with the telescopes know about this just started getting inquiries about this 10 years ago oh my primarily from from people in Europe and in Asia because the the very clips chasers. Will come in from around the world and they'll be prepared to know if the weather's bad they'll be prepared to drive 500 miles that morning if it happens but that's an itch it's just been absolutely incredibly amazing to me to watch this thing ramp up over the in okas I was talking to I was talking to people in the media and hey let's do a promotion let's do this that or the other thing 2 and 3 years ago and and you know people were giving me the whole farm and yeah you had your. No I mean yeah I said let's do it you know and now the phones ringing off the. Shelf and I was one of them lately. You know well I walked in Iraq into live on our ever here in court in Indiana and they've got Michael's Islanders great American eclipse feature it's in caps friend of mine told me that they got the clips merchandise that Larry was but haven't all Wow So I mean that that is how intensely this thing has has permeated the culture but you're right the track the track comes in at again and it stretches across the coast. West to east into south easterly direction and will leave ever South Carolina and think about this the the sunrise out over the North Pacific Ocean eclipse next Monday morning and I know there are at cruises I don't I don't know if there are cruises after Pacific Coast but I know there are cruises. In the Atlantic people are saying that and I believe I believe the is the top of the path actually then lift off as the Earth rotates underneath it lifts off I think just west west of Africa but it's about up about us 70 mile wide ribbon if you will all across all across the country again from Oregon to South Carolina and if you're inside that 70 mile wide ribbon you're going to get it . Little eclipse if you're outside of it but the other the other crew and that's why this thing is so popular virtually every place in the United States all of North America and down to the south down down into well probably Ecuador and the northern part of Peru and South America the least get a partial I mean some examples I would just go on through the list like where I'm from Long Beach California is going to get a 68 percent San Diego 65 percent Portland 99 percent Spokane $92.00 Denver $93.00 say on and so on and so forth now and it's funny because I started looking while I was with the network I had a radio station at Western Kentucky in the community of Marion pop up and I had some business to do with them and one day I was talking to the owner of the radio station down there and I said By the way do you know. There's going to be a total solar eclipse there in 3 years he said well I know I thought that was just in Hopkinsville well. I mean this guy was pretty miles away you know and and. I said no you're about 10 miles north of the center line and you're going to get Hopkins the deal with Hopkinsville there's a there's a stretch between about Carbondale Illinois and we need to talk about Carmen de again in a few minutes there was a spreadsheet between about carbon day 7 day and Franklin Kentucky where we're get the longest duration and greatest eclipse and all that is you know if you're anywhere around the standard line from Oregon to South Carolina you're going to get totality and it's going to be the same. The only thing that will change is the duration of it and it it it it varies a little bit if you're closer to the northern limit like if you're completely up at the northern or southern limit you're going to get 30 seconds Ok. All of that I mean it happens Bill has people I think. I think the last thing I heard they've got . People from 33 countries or something coming in and probably 30 states but all along you know I mean you've got rapidly the best viewing the well the best possibilities for weather will be in Wyoming but you know Harrigan. I mean Nebraska. Weiss Kansas Missouri Illinois Kentucky Tennessee North and South Carolina and I think it clipped Georgia so if you're in that if you're in that path of totality anywhere you're going to you're going to get the totality and you know you and I talking about you know being in the Louisville area driving down a hack and failed. If you can and I have I've been trying to figure out a great way to convey this to people about how the difference will be I mean right here in southern Indiana where I am sitting and where you're sitting and really build We're going to get a nice 6 percent are Ok that's great but like I say a blogger wrote the other day and he said 96 percent of the eclipse is like having 96 percent of a winning lottery ticket Ok.
