Severe thunderstorms are threatening parts of the plains, midwest, and south this morning, putting millions of americans in the path of dangerous weather. Nbcs sara dallof has more. Reporter violent twisters rumbled across northeast colorado, sweeping up debris and darkening skies. This massive tornado was one of several spotted in re, colorado. It was one of the most photogenic tornadoes ive ever seen in 35 years. Reporter there were no fatalities, but at least five people were injured. Debris strewn for miles, dozens of electrical poles were destroyed, leaving many without power. Never been through anything like this. Reporter outside denver near the city of wiggins, a multivortex tornado lifted motor homes and uprooted trees. Campers upside down, sideways. Floating in the lake. A boat shed thats just been crushed. Reporter in arizona, a rare winter blast in flagstaff. Just an hour west, hail and rain were to blame for at least six injuries and two deaths on i40, which closed for hours. Arizona was one of ten states with reports of damaging hail saturday. As the storm pushes east, millions are in the threat zone. More tornadoes and hail possible in the countrys midsection through tuesday. Families urged to stay alert in the peak of tornado season. New bombshell details regarding the ongoing penn state sex abuse scandal involving Jerry Sandusky and famed football coach joe paterno. We now know penn states legal settlements with sanduskys accusers cover alleged abuse dating back to 1971. Thats some 40 years before sanduskys arrest. Thats according to ap and espn, citing a university spokesman. More than 30 settlements come to more than 90 million. Penn state president said theres no way to know if coach paterno knew of the 1970s allegations. He put out a statement saying, in part, quote, we cannot find any evidence related to a settlement or otherwise that an early alleged assault was communicated to coach paterno. In Court Documents released last week, it was alleged that paterno knew of the sex abuse claims regarding sandusky as early as 1976. Sandusky was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison in 2012 for abusing 12 boys. Paterno died later that year and was never charged with any crimes. Three University Officials await trial on criminal charges for their handling of the sandusky scandal. To North Carolina now, where the clock is ticking on that states controversial bathroom law. That rule, otherwise known as hb2, requires people use the restroom corresponding to the gender of their birth. It has sparked protests throughout the state. Last week, the Justice Department classified the law as a civil rights violation. It gave the state and its republican governor until the end of Business Today to repeal it. They called the request unrealistic and said the federal government, quote, is being a bully. If North Carolina leaves the law intact, it could move hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding. A number of companies and celebrities have come out against the law and have boycotted the state. Well, the 61yearold pilot was air lifted to a hospital sunday after his fourseater crash landed on to the roof of a building near los angeles. The pilot told l. A. County fire officials that the plane lost power and went down. He is said to have moderate injuries. Officials say one other person was drivers who witnessed the plane on board but was not injured.
