In us in Denver Colorado Springs am 1460 and f m one a 1 point one The answer Bloomberg article American eating habits are changing faster than fast food can keep up got my guy on the line might very graciously help through the news in would like to weigh in Mike welcome to the show you know I heard you talking about McDonald's chicken sandwiches and I'm Ok on the chicken sandwiches I'll give you my ranking in a minute but I want to tell you a story twice I went to the same McDonald's this week and to the drive and 1st time they didn't get my order right they I ordered a classic chicken sandwich and they thought I said spicy chicken but I've had that before but I didn't know it until later and as much trouble to go back. To you were 10 miles down the road Yeah Ok Exactly yeah and I mean it's Ok I'd like a little more spice but then the day or 2 later I went back and I made sure they heard me play loud and clear so I shot at the. Drive in and they got it right in. This classic chicken sandwich comes out and it's huge because they count it to you know quarter an inch thick but it tasted terrible I don't know if it's if it's a I think it's a combination of things made the Oriole they fry it in a beat the the batter they dip it in it had a slight burn like you know too much pepper and food. But it's just it's absolute worst chicken sandwich I've had the best chicken sandwich is the new crispy chicken at Burger King No Everybody always everybody always raves about. Other chicken sandwiches but this will be more expensive but it's worth it. For now have you ever Ok the crispy chicken sandwich the new the crispy. And sorry the new crispy chicken sandwich at Burger King they've got the old and then they got the new Ok all right yeah I'm going to go to I'm going to go try one this and I have to have you have you ever had the Huns visit you can sandwich on the dollar menu at McDonald's That's what I had Yeah you know oh Ok I'm sorry give me a little bit confused Yeah I do this and I can't and I have to get 2 of them to get me filled up sure don't misunderstand that but you know what that effect I have a neighbor that is a shut in and so the neighbors we help her out you know we cut the grass and take out the trash can and pick up her mail and so forth to life a lady and so everyone's well seder is anything you need she says if you happen to be coming down the freeway stop a big Donal's to get be a couple of those chickens and which. I you know look we're talking about a dollar so I don't know what any of us can really expect but I I'm going to try to now is the new crispy chicken sandwich is a bigger sandwich at Burger King right yeah. It's the better they put it it's how they prepare it you know. It's I don't know it's just being greedy and maybe a little bit more time and effort well I'm glad I'm going to drive because Mike if you listen to this show at all you know I do take recommendations from listeners and I'm going to go dry maybe not today but very soon I'm going to try a Burger King new crispy chicken sandwich How much does it cost. It's . Fortune 5 dollars Also when the value menu has a chicken sandwich Oh that's on I've got to take a break we're right up against the clock so all that you know for years I've been current index who is operated restaurants in the Denver metro area for years confused Well the name of the place is the office Kitchen and Bar and it's located at 233rd Street right next to the old stone church in downtown Castle Rock it's a casual place a place Reagan hangout relax but that doesn't mean that the food isn't good Mike has been in the restaurant business for years recently owning the blue nectar Mexican Grill in Castle Rock until he was able to move into this beautiful new space that's why he's also included his fish tacos to carnitas platter can a couple of other dishes people came to enjoy at the old place but the off. Kitchen is different it's new it's fun to stop by and check it out the kitchen even offers one of the largest selections of bourbons in the area burgers and beers What more could you need the office in Castle Rock Hey I'm ready is Mike you know I've got a dog now well actually my daughter's dodgy adopted a street dog down in Mexico it's a great dog his name is Bailey she was a little concerned about him so we brought him up to the United States who brought him up to the good old. Me in Castle Rock triggering out what she wants to do but the dog when he got here you know if you go to Mexico you tell me it's a little upset when he came to the United States is Tell Me get a little upset and I thought my God this guy has actually ruined 2 rooms worth of parts but I didn't know what to do I called Mike bank not be a g n a l l beg carpet and upholstery cleaning 303-797-6400 p. Came out I said Mike do I need a new card pretty said Mike we will get that taken care of and they did an amazing job between each purchase going. 303-797-6400 Tell me you heard about it from the restaurant shop. The minutes after 11 let's go back to Mike Mike is calling in and we're talking about fast food I've been raving about the McDonald's $1.00 hot spicy chicken sandwich Mike said the better choice would be the new crispy chicken sandwich from Burger King runs almost 5 bucks and he was weighing in on the Windies Mike and we agree that there's people out there right now going oh my god I can't believe the restaurant shows talking about fast food chicken sandwiches they ought to be talking about the pheasant under glass at the broad more or something like that you know what there's a reason that we have you know asked rude restaurant about every 15 feet right because people seem to use a. Yeah you know we gotta eat we're on the go for America Yeah exactly one of the made most of the major reasons people say they want good food and good service but you want to know something every single poll that comes out about why do people go to a good restaurants is value and convenience and they're right up there they're one to one a one b. Convenience and it was going to talk about the when the sandwich Well let me give you another example or body rave on Chick fil a and they're good but I think for about half the price the Windies chicken sandwich is 2 thirds or more as good as the chick please perhaps. Ok. Yeah well I'm very I'm very familiar with the Chick fil A's of course in the Chick fil a originals but. No I can't make that comparison with the Wendy's I for some reason when these kind of got away from me and I'm not sure why Mike it's not been. Maybe I just got out of the habit maybe I had too many Frosties after a hard workout whatever it was but but yeah like I like to go to some of these places every once in a while you've got me you have actually got me interested and maybe if I'm lucky I'll have my I'll have a nice crispy chicken sandwich and by then I'll have some bob back with Bob from Cindy and I'll be able to have a nice dessert Burger King occasionally they'll have the have chicken specials like they had a chicken cordon bleu sandwich and they had a chicken parmesan a sandwich there for a limited Oh they were great yeah maybe you could round up a bunch of them and do a taste test. Well and you know what these l.t. O's limited time offers they know whatever the company is they know that if they do it right that will give them an indication of a whether or not they should continue would be bring it back on another l.g. Will whether or not it's going to make the money the example I use is that not your cheese fries because I read the article here on the air not your cheese fries that Taco Bell put out. And it almost looked to me like a throwaway item they sold $100000000.00 in a month. And my response was Well why do you let them go away well they went away because it was an l g o But if you notice the ads lately they're back now oh yeah Ok. And that makes sense right Mike Yeah I like their. Fried. Turkey of chips and fries too yeah I consider myself some of the all time low you know well remember the criticism of big dollars when they do the make ribs at around Christmas time and they say why if these are so popular why are we only doing them once a year and for a short period of time might listen thanks for the input things and I By this time next week I will have had a new crispy chicken sandwich from Burger King Ok thanks Mike thank you for the tip 8 this and we're coming up on an interview with Jim Donovan about his book a terrible glory Custer in the Little Bighorn the last great battle of the American West you know if you've ever been up to the Little Big Horn in Montana. It's a tough place to die I will tell you that anyway it was a very good book I enjoyed I want to thank the listeners they gave it to me one to remind you we have some upcoming events forget the volcano Asian cuisine Chinese and sushi at $9632.00 East Arapaho road that is coming up on October 13th $7.10 we're going to serve the sesame chick you gotta serve this as the beat you're going to be going to do an Asian restaurant we're going to do the Mongolian double which is beef and chicken and we're going to do sushi for $7.10 that will be on the 13th on the 28th of October down in Fountain we're going to Colorado smokehouse we're going to get some of those ribs of Sean Richards they are absolutely unbelievable and on Sunday October 21st we're going to be at India's best over in Littleton But I want to go over this list of the 15 oldest restaurant chains in the country and I think you will see that there's a dominance of 2 things fast food restaurants and pizzas Ok All right so what do you suppose is the oldest restaurant in the United States the oldest restaurant chain in the United States a n w started 1900 I actually had to grab my phone and look it up I knew that there's a a a w right there in Frisco if you ever get off I 70 if you're going to Breckenridge there's an a and w. Right there that's been there for years and years and years and years but I guess we've got a couple others around town a n.w. Is the oldest restaurant chain in the country 1900 the 2nd oldest White Castle all you folks from the India where the out of probably Indiana I think 921 so you get a w 1900 White Castle 121 and then it jumps to 941000 years later the queues came along Dairy Queen Speaking of fast food have you ever had their chili cheese dawgs. I'm telling you they're great and everyone you get the hot dog is hot the bun is hot but soft you know somebody you go somewhere in the bun gets a little hard and then they put some of that chili in there they put some cheese on it and I always ask him for some raw onions and I'm telling you what it will do you away all right number 4 is Dunkin Donuts 948 number 5948 also what do you suppose happened in 148 out in Baldwin Park California. In and Out burgers number one is and have you never too as White Castle number three's Dairy Queen number four's don't condone as number 5 is in and out number 6 Jack In The Box thank you one number 7 is Ok if the 952 number 8 is any thinking 53 tonic it's nice that 1003 also in McDonald's came along. I think a break and when we come back we're going to talk about a book that a listener gave me a really dirty we're going to talk with the author Jim Donovan might or a restaurant show. Newstalk 710 k. And listen to some of us wonderful anytime anywhere message and. The. Right mood on the restaurant show the restaurant show travel movies and books have come up to be periodically and recommend a book maybe there call me maybe the Send me an email well what's best is when a listener comes up to me a couple weeks ago and hands me a book called a terrible glory cluster in the Little Big Horn. Great Battle of the American West as by James Donovan and you know what I've been to the Little Big Horn I've been to the Alamo and read books about the Alamo I've been to Gettysburg and I've been to after Maddox and I've been to Pearl Harbor and it's nice to read this stuff and just get a little bit more in depth but when I go I don't immerse myself Dina's there's people that go to the Little Big Horn up in Montana now and spend an entire week 10 days 2 weeks study in the battle Well that's a little beyond my level of interest but when I can find a book by somebody did has had the interest it really appeals to me so 1st of all thanks for the listener giving me the book I read it I enjoyed it and thanks to James Donovan the author because he's with me on the air Jim thanks for joining me I really appreciate it my pleasure now this is a book that actually came out 10 years ago and I you know what I actually think I think I thought that maybe I had had you on about your other book about the Alamo the blood of heroes that actually came out later that came out in 2012 but I remember reading that book and it was a tremendous book What inspires you to immerse yourself this is a book you're terrible glory is a 400 page book with 150 pages of notes and references and bibliographies and interviews and so forth and so on that's a lot of work why don't you tell the folks what you know I'm kind of interested in how you can aspire to do this I've been to the Little Big Horn I've been to the Alamo I saw it I know who won I know what happened but I've never been inspired to sit down and work for a year on a book. Yeah a year I wish it was just a year or whatever yeah yeah took about 4 years there is a I mean of course this was. One of the things that fascinated me about this battle was that it was one of the great mysteries of the 19th century people just couldn't believe when they heard the news that George Custer the hero of the Civil War you know thought of his the great Indian fighter he and you know 5 of his companies 220 men were just annihilated by a bunch of at least what they thought of been as savage Indians. And of course since all of Custer's men died with him all we have is Indian accounts and for a 100 more than a 100 years Indian accounts were thought of as very contradictory and just sort of tossed out the window very self aggrandizing and so forth and also they kind of look. Indian at that time American Indian Plains Indians they kind of looked at a battle differently they didn't didn't have a leader who strategized or you know was big on tactics they they followed him and they kind of did their own thing so they weren't really able to talk about overall large planning and so they're interested in these things but nobody put them together until somebody did recently before my book and really kind of took all of men and increased our knowledge about the better when there was one more thing. To fire. Lou over the the battlefield and I think 1981 the early eighty's and they started seeing all these artifacts you know bullets in cases and guns and bones and so they decided to do really very organized. You know dig archaeological dig and what they came up with was hundreds and hundreds of things that really improved our knowledge of the battle and then they did about oh maybe a half dozen more digs in different areas so I wanted to combine all of that information into a very lively readable and accurate account of the battle well and you know what that's one of the things that are trying to impress upon other readers or listeners I just finished hunting Eichmann of course about Adolf Eichmann the not saying the architect of the final a solution and there's a movie out right now called Operation finale I mean this stuff reads like a reason like a Ludlum novel and if you just take the time you can learn a little bit about it which I think is a perk I think one of the big purposes of reading of course is entertainment but if you can be entertained and learn something Jim Donovan I think it makes a difference we've got a guy in Woodland Park here Mark Gardner and he wrote a book called shot all to hell about the Jesse James Gang going of the nor. Field Minnesotan trying to rob a bank and I happen to be up in Minnesota so I rented a car and I drove out to see it because it just it makes it all come alive he wrote a book about Teddy Roosevelt in the Rough Riders charging of San Juan Hill in Cuba I think guys like you do a wonderful I'm not stroking you maybe I am but I think you guys do a wonderful service to those of us out here that like to read and like to learn what it's good the book is called the terrible glory Custer and the Little Big Horn can you tell the listeners a little bit about you I know you live in Dallas but we're a year from and did you go did you study history in school that give us a little your bio Who are you anyway you know the funny thing is I'm embarrassed to admit this but I wasn't that big of history fan until 0 maybe 2025 years ago I grew up in Brooklyn moved out of there early bounced around the globe with my father who was a work for the Navy so I was a civilian Back then I ended up in Texas I've been to Texas for about 35 years and here's the connection by day I'm a literary agent and I represent a man named Mark legal Do you really. So Mark and I good friends and I'm glad you said that he's a great writer and researcher well and he's got he's got he's got another book out about Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid I've read I've had him on a number of times so anywhere. And he's a great writer Well I always you know I was a decent writer and always interested in let down a couple small books but I got interested in this battle because I started reading up on it made a visit and I realized like I said that all this new stuff was out there this is about 1215 years ago and nobody it use it for a major narrative because I think it's one of the the great sagas in American history dozens of interesting. Characters many of them household names it's got a really enduring love story between Custer and his wife Libby and it's got all those things that make a story great my opinion like courage Trek free love hate and of course it had a great mystery and then even better after that climaxes in a very interesting courtroom drama afterwards it was an investigation into what happened you know what it's a couple of things that really jumped out at me I got a kick out of it we know him is George Armstrong custard and I said to myself wonder where he got his name so I googled it his mother named him George Armstrong Custer after George Armstrong a minister that she was hoping that he would. Become a member of the of the cloth and obviously he didn't go that direction but I thought that was interesting. Boyd Boy I'm so impressed with your knowledge I may have known this but I have forgotten it so that's very impressive and of course it's interesting that he came from a big family combined family and loved his mother loved his his you know his family and some somebody when he was little couldn't pronounce they all called him Armstrong they couldn't pronounce Armstrong and turned Audi a huge East so every everyone in the family called him Audie you know what is interesting to learn in your book 2 of his brothers were actually killed with him it's a little bit more and a brother in law one of his captains who was married to his sister Yes quite a blow for the Custer family that day he had a brother who had. Tom Custer fascinating guy himself who was also a captain of one of the. One of the company's $21.00 to $2.00 medals a minor medals of honor in the Civil War as you probably know yeah and you know I owed I'd always thought that George Chamberlain the gentleman that repulse the charge it to Gettysburg I always thought of him as the only 2 recipient of the Medal of Honor to come out of the Civil War but his brother Tom came out with 2 of them he had another Boston one of the things that I'd like you to clear up if somebody were to pick up the book they would see a picture of Dr Henry Porter Dr Henry Porter and it says he survived explain if everybody was wiped out explain the fact that Dr Henry Porter survived Yes absolutely well what happened at the Little Big Horn was. Custer divided his command right regiment right well companies plus a pack train into 4 or 5 different disparate elements he visited the famous the famous message with the corporal that rode away come quick come quick bring packing and munition packing Yeah and then he said p.s. Bring packs because he and his 5 company that he was he took on is kind of a battalion went along the cliffs and he left 3 other companies that had gone to the left and 3 more companies and one company was but the pack train so it turned into a defeat in detail but he had his by companies about $212.00 men were of course annihilated but for 5 miles away from where the rest of the companies the 7 other companies in the pack train kind of. 40 and up in a little depression. So maybe 30 or 40 of them die Union surrounded them for about a day and a half but a lot of a lot of all right we're talking with Jim Donovan His book is called a terrible Gloria one the think once again the listener that took the time to bring this to me knows I'm a voracious reader cluster and a Little Big Horn if you ever get up to Montana you ought to step up and see if we're going to go in to quick break your little game back I want to know about George Armstrong Custer last in his city West Point We're back with Jim on the Michael Dunn show. the Mike Doyle restaurant show and movie feature that many of us lunch bunch and suffer a couple events all of which are listed on his website at Mike Boyle dot com So whether it's a bottle of pop a few no water and iced tea by Lipton for one of the many wonderful sodas offered by Pepsi whichever one you choose is going to help make for a perfect summer that's you know any time of the year is a great time for a little drive up to the mountains sometimes I 70 gets a little jammed up little used to traffic construction well why not take the drive to the mountains by heading up Highway 2 it will take you up past Morrison tiny town Turkey Creek and right into Aspen park and once investment park you say well not much but there's a great place to stop and enjoy a big hearty wonderful breakfast or maybe if you get a late start of a big hearty wonderful lunch the place is called. Diner and it's located in the King's super shopping center as you enter town independently owned and operated by Dennis why that's what the v.w. Stands for Dennis has been in the restaurant business for years and knows what it takes to keep customers happy big meals great food good value and a nice friendly welcoming atmosphere so when you start with a g.p. And platter of tamales and eggs for breakfast or a big thick juicy burger for lunch is going to make you happy don't use open 7 days a week serving breakfast and lunch and it's sure to give you the fuel you'll need for an enjoyable day in the Colorado Rockies on an ice cold Pepsi all you enjoy more. Are Back here in the restaurant you. Jim Donovan You know we talk about restaurants and movie in travel and books. And I think a book is a tremendous way to relax after maybe a hectic day a component you have yourself a cold Coors Light a glass of wine you relax maybe have a nice dinner with the family maybe you go out maybe get home and just to relax before bedtime you pick up a book well maybe you might want to pick up a terrible glory Custer in the Little Bighorn the last great battle of the American West it came out about 10 years ago a listener just gave it to me We're talking with Jim Dunham and he is the author and it's obvious that he put a lot of work into it I've always gotten a kick out of Custer in the sense that when it was evident to him when he was that West Point that he was not going to be the valedictorian he wound of coming in last in his class at West Point and he said well if I can't be the head I'd much rather be the foot or something I'm paraphrasing roughly but he was actually kind of proud of that and there's a little bit more to the story because his class was considerably bigger but a lot of them left at the initial outbreak of the Civil War to actually go serve the Confederacy. And then you partly meet me on this show you know back and I think right in the class of 1862 which he was and was much larger at the end it was there were only 26. Cadets left but a whole bunch probably twice that many maybe now there were $34.00 graduates and there were probably 60 or 70. But a lot of them left when war was declared and went south to join the Confederate army so it's very misleading and also at that time your standing was also decided by the merits things like that and he was kind of a guy that liked to have fun and you know didn't always but every single button so it's a little misleading but you know he was actually one of the most popular cadets ever to attend West Point everybody loved well and the people the served under him and say that in your book he pointed that out very clearly that even though his permanent rank was Lieutenant Colonel he had. Received battlefield promotions to major general during the Civil War and even after the war when his rank reverted to his permanent rank the troops to serve under him in the Indian wars still referred to him as General Custer Yes they did it was an honorific a matter of respect usually in the army specially if this after the Civil War where you know there were 2000000 men or so that served in the Union army and by the time 876 believe it or not our standing army had about 25 or 26000 and listed men and a lot of people didn't even think we needed a standing army so you can imagine most of those men were cashiered out but there were lots and lots of I think there are over $500.00 Union generals at the time so you can imagine how many colonels and majors they were and all of them were reduced to rank at the time of the Little Bighorn 1876 I think there were 10 or 11 generals so you know all these generals and colonels were you know. Jumped down to major Lieutenant Colonel he was actually lucky to land the 2nd in command of the 7th Calvary he was not actually the commander he was the on field commander but the actual commander was another colonel Sturgis who really never had much to do with it which brings me to another question Lieutenant James Sturgis. Was the son of Colonel Samuel Sturgis as to you are g.i.s. Him and there happens to be a town in South Dakota that is not necessarily well known for being named after Samuel or James Sturges but is certainly known for a motorcycle rally what's the what's the story there about that town be a name Sturges could do you know anything about that I thought I don't know exactly but it's got to be named for one of them sure and one of us find out I've been there I haven't been there during the motorcycle rally but whatever and crazy. I've got a friend that goes to got a couple friends I go every year yeah and it's a nice nice town and people are very welcoming they're very happy to have people come to their town another question that I thought that the Jew inspired me to look up. Here the term Brett b r e v is in Victor Eaton and why don't you explain a little bit of that to listeners I think and we've touched on a little bit about the lieutenant colonel to General back to you in a colonel and so forth but I would it's one of those things were I've heard the term I'm the son of a career military man I am a veteran of the United States Army I had heard the term in my travels and in my wanderings in my readings but I didn't really know what it meant I had to look it up so when she takes the listeners are that it might be interesting for them sure so you were No I mean Brad or navy brat Army Ok yeah yeah yeah did spend some time in Germany right yes sir absolutely 3rd Infantry Division Well the rabbit rank it was actually used a lot more during the Civil War believe it or not a Union officer could actually hold as many as 4 ranks he had a permanent rank his boat rank in the regular army and he could hold a rank in the following. Here's and then read it ranks in both that was an honorary promotion that was given an officer for oh battlefield gallantry meritorious service it was kind of awarded the same for the same reasons medals are given out today because our modern system of medals didn't exist until several decades after the Civil War so that you know a little clearer a lot of men got it mostly it was battlefield promotions All right now after the after all of the after the events of the Little Big Horn there was a Reno court of inquiry Reno being a an Army officer that convened it. In your judgment for the listeners that don't they certainly know about Custer's last stand the famous portrait they know about the battle a little bit they maybe got a little bit of an American history was George Custer a very gallant trick this brave strategic army officer commanding officer or was this a complete screw up on his part or maybe somewhere in between somewhere in between he was extremely brave no one was brave or he had something like 10 or 11 or so it's shot out from under him in the Civil War You can believe that nobody disputed his bravery that's when officers lead from the front you Nats why he was promoted believe it or not from Captain to general kind of stuff went on the civil war about 3 or 4 days before getting his Bergen if you know what about getting suburban Custer on the East field he played a major part and withstanding an attack in the rear that might have changed 'd that battle. He was a glory hog I guess you could say. But you know no more than any other aggressive military commander. His mistake of course was that I think it mentioned any spitters force up into 4 autonomous pieces each of which had little or no idea what the other was doing he was acting as a battalion commander and he should have acted as a regimental commander and back then there was no way to communicate they didn't have cell phones it's a Little Big Horn and so consequently there was not a way to get messages even to your other units except with Courier Exactly and you know otherwise it would have been a very different battle I call it. The perfect storm of a battle because everything that went that had to go wrong for that result did it. If he had kept his unit together the combined force of the 7 would probably have overwhelmed the camp which was a lot of were sleeping it was you know about noon and it would been very different result All right so the Reno court of inquiry I've only got Jim for a couple more minutes Jim what did they find summarized his summarize that brief remarks as you probably know any officer can call for one Reno was the 2nd in command he was a major He was one x. From the store and called him a b. Sided mediocrity he was a drunk and he had been in the Civil War but never done much. And he just totally lost it and he was ordered by Custer to attack the camp and came around a bend of trees and saw this huge camp and I can't blame him for not attacking the camp to a line across the plains across the valley and the Indians start attacking then he put them into the the woods but then he flipped out and just. Retreated didn't tell anybody it was going to happen and then up on the Hill he was drunk so a lot of these rumors started spreading he and about 2 years later he called for an inquiry wanted to clear his name it quickly became could have been in Chicago it quickly became a complete inquiry into the entire battle and a lot of his fellow. Officers officers under him who served under him and if you listen then they just kind of closed ranks and didn't say anything bad about him wow that's what happened all right well listen thanks it's called Terrible glory cousin the Little Bighorn His name is Jim Donovan James Donovan he's got a book out also about the Alamo that I tremendously enjoyed He represents one of our favorite authors your on the mike well shows Mark Gardner Out of Woodland Park Colorado. Very quickly got anything coming down the pike Jim Well I just finished a book that will be out next March so I decided to venture into the 20th century the book's called Shoot for the moon. The extraordinary space race the space race will story boys of Apollo 11 you know the 50th anniversary will be next July right yet in March I talked to a lot of astronauts and I'm excited about that coming out next March for the Mir All right terrific Listen Jim I can't thank you enough for taking the time like you said it made me the restaurant job but we like to wander around we like to try to keep it interesting for people and talking to you is very interesting in your book what a tremendous amount of research done you've done and I'm looking forward to shoot for the moon I'll be picking that up as soon as that comes out and maybe we can get you back and talk a little bit about that but let me back up like that. There's a. Lot of fears about g.m. I'm going to. Get a break and continue on. Everybody Mike most of the restaurants show some of the Black Cat Cattle Company and Kittredge Highway 74 Dave Rodrigues one of the nicest guys one of the most hospitable one of the most personable guys in the restaurant business has the Black Cat cattle company being staged like steaks seafood chicken and Dave to do it he's been serving meals up in the Evergreen area for over 30 years it's a dinner only house open Wednesday through Sunday conference of Asian 303-670-0941 that's 303-670-0941 The Black Cat Cattle Company good for a nice evening meal good for a special occasion they got a full service bar they have an absolutely wonderful reasonably priced wine list but it's the steaks that will bring you back Dave is the guy in the black can't stop in a sale Oh he's just a good ole boy from Montana the black kid can accompany on Highway 74 in carriage and tell her about a poem might boil on k. And us. Remember when burgers went high tech when they went chef inspired who was Sorry coming up on all of this for Hope you enjoyed the interview this and it was so interesting the book was so good that I could have kept Jim Donovan around for a lot longer but I figure a couple segments is generally enough but it was really a good book and you know yeah Custer was. An interesting guy but you just get the impression that he made a few mistakes there but you also got the impression in the book that some of his. Other commanders really let him down and were really incompetent and that but you know what that's just the way it is where these things go so getting back to the 15 oldest restaurant chains in the United States I was able to get through about 10 of them a n.w. Is the oldest of 1900 White Castle 121 is 2 number 3 is Dairy Queen 1940 number 4 is Duncan don't is 48 In and Out burgers 1988 number 6 Jack In The Box 51 number 7 is k.f.c. . I'm sold I remember when it was called Kentucky Fried Chicken 152 Denny's is number 8153 sonic started 953 and number 10 McDonald's started 955 rounding out our I have 958 Pizza Hut and 158 Domino's Pizza in 1960 and believe it or not g.g. I Fridays I get kind of a kick out of that you know I remember when they started in remember they were. You know t.j. . F. Was kind of a term back in the day it all thank God it's Friday and I don't even know if people know what t.g.i. Means and it's the in the Friday part but in any rate they've been around since 1985 surely have gone through some some transitions gone through a few changes. But they certainly have survived Ok one final mention a couple things this Tuesday at the airplane restaurant in Colorado Springs 665 south Newport down near fountain and powers they are filming the travel show Steve's restaurant is very very unique at that big k.c. 97 Texas Air National Guard aircraft stuck into the building it's really a fascinating it's become known all over the world this is a 16th year of operation if you would like to go down there they are looking for people to be at the restaurant that day between noon and 2 because that's when the filming will go on the crew will get there obviously much earlier to set up they'll be there much later to break down but if you would like to be eating in the dining room and they're doing some filming. You might want to go to the airplane restaurant this Tuesday between noon and 2 we did an interview in the 1st hour with Darlene Stacey the lady that heads of the travel agency that supports the mike will restaurant show we have got a trip to Billy's coming up March 2nd to March 10th and I think that there's a little bit of a romantic component to believe you know a lot of people have heard about it remember when it was British on during think about the Caribbean think about the scuba diving and so forth well there's plenty of other stuff to do down there there's a mine ruins we've got it what I think is going to be a couple of great excursions as part of the package but we only have we decided to do a small. Kind of a private group it's only going to be 16 people we already have 8 people committed for it if you think you would like to go you're not going to hear me pounded on this next week the week after the week after because it will sell out in a hurry but if you think you'd like to go we would love to have you call darling at 303-743-0011 extension 12 remind you that next Saturday I've got studio shows both in Colorado Springs and Denver but Saturday night I'm going to be at The View house because all the people that are going on the Rhine river cruise with me in October we're going to have dinner together just so people can get their travel documents and so they can get a chance to meet each other seach other so the one we're wandering around the boat on the Rhine River will recognize each other and be able to say hello we do that for all of our group trips. Also coming up October 13th Saturday October 13th we're going to do an event at the volcano Asian restaurant it is it $9632.00 East to wrap the whole road just east of I $25.00 we're going to be doing $7.00 intense and special sesame chicken the Mongolian double which is beef and chicken and sushi for $7.10 Yeah you can take out if you want but it's a nice restaurant Jay has done a beautiful job with the their core So my suggestion would be make it a little bit of a date night maybe early come on early we're going to do it from 4 o'clock until 7 o'clock I'll be on the air from $3.00 to $5.00 that will be Saturday the 13th you listeners in Colorado Springs is an easy drive so if you'd like to come up we would love to have you we're going to do an event in fountain on Saturday the 20th we're going to go back to the Colorado smoke house down on Highway 8587 and pick up some of that great great barbecue from the Colorado smoke out then on Sunday the 21st we're going to do about Fayette India's best in Littleton all this information is on my web site it might boil dot com to get to access me through contacts there we've got my Facebook Instagram Twitter.
