Longtime nevada legislator debbie smith passed away this weekend; one year after she started treatment for a malignant brain tumor. A Memorial Service is planned for this coming weekend at noon at sparks high school. Debbie smith was was first elected to the state assembly in 2000 and won a seat in the senate in 2012. Politicians from across the state have expressed sadness over her passing. Smith is survived by her husband greg and three children. She was 60yearsold. Another Nevada Department of corrections inmate has passed away. 69year old john silva was reportedly found unresponsive in his bed at Three Lakes Valley conservation camp at indian springs, nevada he did not respond to life saving measures. Silva was serving two toten years for driving under the influence. Some lawmakers on capitol hill are upset the Obama Administration changed the Visa Waiver Program which was passed into law in our washington bureaus peter zampa spoke with a texas congressman unhappy about changes that could benefit people who have traveled to iran. Congressman will hurd says he thinks the Obama Administration is making changes to the Visa Waiver Program to please the iranian government. Program had strict protocol for anyone having traveled to iran, iraq, sudan, or syria or if they held citizenship in one of those countries. They were not eligible for the Visa Waiver Program. However the department of Homeland Security and state department made exceptions when they implemented the law on january 21, saying that anyone traveling to those countries for humanitarian reasons, journalism, part of a ngo, or for legitimate business purposes, could be part of the Visa Waiver Program. Hurd says these changes are a result of the Iranian Nuclear agreement, and that the lifting of sanctions against iran lead to the relaxing of guidelines in the Visa Waiver Program. Rep.
