happens on campus. The
School District
has to make several important decisions on how to handle it. Of course. Not every incident is handled the same way. Yesterdays stead incident occurred during the middle of the day. While school was still in session. The area surrounding the school. Was potentially dangerous. Because of a manhunt. So the schools were put on a code yellow lockdown. Meanwhile. Parents were alerted that something was going on. Typically the decision is made jointly by the principal and the area superintendent. In the incidents that you are referring to yesterday, it also involved our
School Police
department. So the administrators get together and they decide whether or not a communication is in the best interest of the community. Also done in
Spanish Springs
. In regards to a juvenile who brought a handgun to school. But the message in that case. Was not sent until several hours later. Also in that case. The school was not locked down. Turns out there is a good reason for that. School police were able to act swiftly. And take the gun away from that person. Within three minutes of getting the tip. And at the same time. Arrest the juvenile. The threat at that point was neutralized. And there was no reason to lock down the school. Administrators then took time to get all the facts. Before alerting parents. Highway Patrol
says 21yearold edy prudensio martinezramirez stole a ford fone50 pickup from a home in carson city. Carson deputies found the truck in traffic and tried to stop martinez ramirez. But he sped off after ramming a then lost control and drove across all the lanes of college parkway, including the center median. Then he went over a sidewalk, and through a fence of the carson city airport. Where he hit the southeast corner of an airport hangar. Martinezramirez was thrown from the truck and died. He was not wearing his seatbelt. No deputies or troopers were hurt in the incident. The nevada

is investigating the crash, while the
Nevada Department
of
Public Safety
