From a.b.c. News this is perspective. A closer look at the week's top stories and the stories you may have missed I'm Sherri Preston. Coming up she got in a car she thought was her birth but it wasn't the tragic death of a college student in South Carolina we do it to do it. Again to continue the history in Chicago as the city elects a new mayor we will celebrate our differences we only place our uniqueness and we will make certain that you have every opportunity to succeed and President Obama's longest serving adviser gives advice for some of the 2020 candidates they are stronger when we recognize that being inclusive and finding what we have in common you know optimism about our future that's a vision for our country that I see. All ahead on perspective. After declaring full exoneration reports have surfaced. This week that the limited information Attorney General William Barr shared about the Russia investigation has frustrated some on Special Counsel Robert Muller's team that comes as the president continues to call for Republican health care plan and threatens to close the southern border for more on those stories and everything else happening in d.c. Let's go to a.b.c. News Political Director reclined a lot of debate this week Rick about this summary report was it an actual summary was it just you know wait some conclusions where do we stand with the Moeller report and with Attorney General Bill Barr we don't have an actual report yet we have a summary of a report and now we have conflicting information about who's happy about what is or isn't included in it and it actually has become more of a question not less and that in the week and a half or so since Moeller Muller produced his findings and Barr summarized those findings we are expecting to see something in the next week or so according to the attorney general but even that is going to be shrouded in questions because there's going to be portions of it that are blacked out that are redacted for privacy reasons or other considerations so there's a lot of questions still out there and I think the a knish will take of this of being a huge political benefit a boon to the president I think we've tempered that a little bit just because there's still a lot we don't know we got us of the political fight with the legal experts that you've been talking to how much do we the American people and the taxpayers have a right to see some stuff in there this is a very sensitive material in that report Well we paid for the report and of course there's intense public interest in the 22 month investigation but there is information that would include grand jury testimony that might involve people that have not been charged or indicted in any crime could kind of peripheral players potentially you could also have information in there given the Russian hacking and in the interference that was the initial focus of the investigation that gets at what the intelligence community call sources and methods you don't want the Russians to find out how we learned certain things so there's all those things plus there's the possibility of the president trying to exert executive privilege or the attorney general. Exerting that on his behalf so there are a lot of categories of things that could be kept secret and I think the fight that Congress has initiated now in subpoenaing the report potentially bringing it to them in an redacted form is going to take a while the play out of course in the president saying I want the whole thing released and then maybe not maybe not and he said he was going to close the southern border and the southern border is still open is that just another thing saying I'm going to do this and that it doesn't happen or did it actually did Mexico actually step up and do something there's no evidence that Mexico seriously changed its behavior its enforcement along the border this seems to be the president either as a negotiating strategy or just the musings that he sometimes engages in there's been fierce blowback even from many Republicans and business groups about what the impact of a closed border would be it's really not practical and even the senator from Texas Ted Cruz and John Korn of the monk saying this would be. An economic disaster and urging the White House not to do it so it's unclear whether he's serious about this he sometimes says things that he does not follow through on I don't think that's a surprise to any of us at this point Cheri how big will and how much how successful will the fight to be to get the president's tax returns I mean they're going back to a law from the 1920 s. Trying to say that they have the right to see these tax returns do you think anything there you know that law it's almost 100 years old it's very rarely been exerted but it does give the congressional committees the right to see anyone's tax returns the catches it has to be for a legitimate legislative purpose now Democrats will say we're going to make sure the tax code is fair we want to make sure the audit process around presidents is fair we want to make sure that there's accountability for public officials all of which are legitimate legislative interests the White House is already saying it is a fishing expedition ultimately it's going to fall to the treasury secretary of course see evolution appointed by and confirmed to the Senate but appointed by President Trump and I think ultimately the course of this is bound for determination inside the court system and it will test this law that's been written very rarely used looking ahead to next week what do we have going on all eyes on Joe Biden in the coming week you know he is. Been buffeted by this criticism of some inappropriate contact that some women have alleged toward him this is the phase that he's in right now to be thankfully launching a presidential campaign he's got a speech scheduled for next week and it is going to be a very big deal whatever he does that is probably the biggest the biggest dominoes fall in the 2020 race A.B.C.'s reclined thank you so much. Senior adviser to President Barack Obama for most of the 8 years that he was in office not long after leaving office she became the subject of a racist tweet from Roseanne Barr now she's out. I talked about that memoir she opened up about her views on the current political climate. And advice for Democratic candidates running for president let's talk a little bit 1st of all about what happened in Chicago I mean 1st African-American woman I know that you were supporting Lightfoot's opponent. Who's a former teacher and she's very big in the Democratic Party there but what do you think of Laurie Lightfoot I think she's to reflect she is a story a candidate I know she's committed to Chicago she loves our city I did support Toni Preckwinkle I've known Tony for 30 years she was my alderman back when she was an alderman and I've been very impressed with the work she's done at the county board and to the good news is we have the chairman of the Cook County board and we have the mayor of the city of Chicago who I know we're going to work together and move the city forward ever give any thought to running for mayor of Chicago I have given in years gone by and now I'm really interested in helping other people run for office and delighted to see not just in Chicago but around the country so many women who are jumping in and being willing to put themselves in the arena and running for office I think that's good for our city and for the country and let's talk about that I mean so many women running for president by 5 when they were out of you know we're moving up there a little bit what do you think of that huge field of Democrats I think I call it an embarrassment of riches and I'm delighted to see so many committed folks who want to serve our country and who are willing to. Put themselves on the line and take their case directly to the American people so I'm very enthusiastic about the field how about Joe Biden I mean the things that have come out over the past couple of weeks I'd like your thoughts on that because it's really I mean that's Joe Biden well and I think he got it right when he said it's a new day and it's time for men to listen and that he intends to listen and I think modeling that kind of behavior is really important my book is called finding my voice and so I'm encouraged to see women beginning with the me too movement where some very brave women were willing to step forward and talk about what had happened to them which was quite traumatic and obviously there's a whole spectrum but it's important that women know that their voices are going to be heard and I thought that Vice President Biden acknowledged that and I was impressed that he did I have a theory that the me too movement in the Times of movement wouldn't have happened. Maybe not at all but certainly not as quickly without the election of Donald Trump and by that I say that things were percolating and maybe with the election of Hillary Clinton it was well we're Ok will be fine and a lot of women after the election of Donald Trump said no no no no it's my own personal theory I you know but that's I think that it sort of sort of bubbled over the top and they said we're speaking up now we're as the title of your book is finding my voice and finding my voice I'm saying something about it well the day after the inauguration we saw record crowds of women come out for the women's March and I think that the activism among women around the country has been tremendous over the last couple of years women running for Congress record number of women who were elected to Congress as well and so I think that activism is great I'm not sure exactly what triggered it but if the election of Donald Trump did that I think that's terrific because I I love to see the people who represent our country representing the great diversity of our country when you look at the Trump presidency what are your thoughts. Well it's profoundly disappointing to me obviously I was a supporter of Hillary Clinton and I thought that she would continue to move our country forward in a positive direction I thought that her message was similar to rock Obama's message which is that we are stronger when we recognize that being inclusive and finding what we have in common and not polarizing ourselves and speaking in a way that our young people will look up to us and feel optimism about our bright future in that's the vision for our country that I support and actually not the one that I've seen over the last couple years and looking forward if you were to guess 2 years from now where we would be I know that that's difficult and we don't we're not in the guessing game but you know going forward the Democrats' message it has to be more than we're not Donald Trump because there's a lot of people across the country including many in Illinois downstate Illinois who who like Donald Trump they like his one style they you know way I don't like who we you know you I don't like some of the things he does but I love what he's done for the economy bill in the blanks Well this is what I've said to several of the candidates who are running for president is that I think. They are at their strongest when they're talking about what they stand for what their track record is what their vision for America is what they're going to do to help working families around our country not just get by but right and if they have that optimistic clear message about their values and their vision and their track record I think that resonates with the American people coming out of the store it may all raise in Chicago.
