Keep in mind, the carlson boulevard to westbound 80 is shut down because of a big rig accident overnight. The onramp to the freeway shut down. The freeway is open. There are closures in the city. Highlights of hot spots coming up for the weekend. 4 31. New this morning, Alameda County sheriffs deputies opened fire as they chased down two people in a car that was allegedly stolen. Kpix 5s anne makovec is at the scene in hayward where the two suspects were arrested. Good morning, anne. Reporter good morning. You can see the block here behind me is shut down. This is ricardo as the Investigation Continues this morning in hayward. From what we understand, officers shot at a driver they believe was trying to run them down. Officers were chasing a vehicle first that they thought might be stolen. And the vehicle ended up trapped in this residential neighborhood. We did catch one of the arrests that followed this incident. Officers say the suspects turned the vehicle on them and that is when they opened fire. So thats where we are right now. We are waiting to get more official word from the officers at this point. We do understand the driver is under arrest. Live in hayward, anne makovec, kpix 5. A fugitive who spent a month on the run after escaping from a bail bondsman is back in Santa Clara County jail this morning. [ nonenglish language ] was arrested last night after a threehour standoff in san joses evergreen area. Officers went to the home to follow up on the case last night and investigators say the suspect and others left the home and then went back in just before police set off flash bang devices. They were able to enter the home and arrest the suspect. Others in the home are being questioned. What i think we were all kind of curious, you know, on how this was going to unfold here today, um, but again, we did get, um, a serious criminal off the street. Police say back in august, Surveillance Video captured him burglarizing a home with a woman carrying a guitar acting as a lookout. He faces charges including felony assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and attempted burglary. Police are looking for two burglary suspects. They apparently got thirsty while ransacking a home in san jose. Take a look. Surveillance video shows them helping themselves to orange juice and soda from the refrigerator. Their faces are clearly visible in the video. And its a break for police because the suspects and the third man apparently never knew they were on camera at the time. Santa clara police picked up a 21yearold suspect less than a week after the burglary last august. They say he was armed with a handgun stolen during the burglary. But the trail has gone cold on the other two men both of whom were shown in the kitchen. Thats why Police Released the video yesterday. San bruno woman is dead after she was hit by a car near concord about 7 30 last night. The victim got in a fender bender at kirker pass and hesse road. Chp says she was exchanging information with the other driver when another car slammed into them. 35yearold woman was thrown into oncoming traffic and later died at the hospital. Her passenger, a 36yearold man, suffered some major injuries. The other two drivers are okay. Investigators not to do think alcohol or drugs were a factor. Some people in a napa neighborhood are fed up with the teenaged driver who they consider a menace. One neighbor decided to confront the driver and record their exchange. Kpix 5s cate caugiran shows us what happened. Reporter chris didnt want to be shown on camera but showed us why he decided to confront this driver. He is already approaching speed. He pretty much does just blow right through the stop sign. Reporter again, chris says the teenager blows past a second stop sign. This is video from chris dashcam one of two chris took last week including this one. You blow through stop signs all the way over here all the time you guys think its fun . I . I got you on dashcam video blowing through stop signs reporter chris said he first read about the reckless driver on next door an online forum for neighbors. He had been reported doing it several times through the neighborhood. Reporter chris was dropping off his son when he says he saw the teenager illegally cut off other drivers. So he had to have been going at least over 45. He is pulling away. Reporter this is in a residential neighborhood. So technically the speed limit here is 30. Reporter he followed them until they pulled over. Thats when chris confronted them. You guys need to stop . Oka. Do you understand that . Sorry. My kid goes to school here. Youre going to kill someone cool. Reporter he came back after he heard them say. Its unlawful. No, its not. Im calli 911. You touched me. You molested me, fool reporter because the teenager made those claims Child Protective Services and Napa Valley Police got involved and police tell us they saw the two videos and passenger testimony there was no evidence to important what the teen said. In napa, cate caugiran, kpix 5. Survivors of the berkeley balcony collapse and relatives of those killed have now filed a dozen lawsuits. Six people died in june. The lawsuits say builders used cheap wood than approved and contractors allegedly left the balcony exposed to rainfall for months before waterproofing. Also building managers did not act on complaints about mushrooms growing out of the wood, a sign of rot. Crews are working on an east bay dam that vandals destroyed six months ago. This is in fremont on the alameda creek. The vandals deflated it allowing some 50 million gallons of water flow into the creek below. That water could have supplied 500 homes in fremont, newark and union city with Drinking Water for a year. Surveillance video captured the vandals deflating the dam here but in spite of the evidence, no one has been arrested. It is 4 37 right now. Lets get our first check on weather. There was an accident that happened overnight involving a big rig flipping on its side and it has shut down the carlson boulevard onramp. The chp has issued a sig alert of this extended closure. They expect the carlson boulevard onramp to westbound 80 closed until 7 a. M. Continue to use central to get yourself on to westbound 80. The freeway is open. Traffic flows well richard to berkeley and a remind irbe bridge is going to be shut down for a period of time tomorrow morning because of the implosion. Thats a look at kcbs traffic. Now to frank. 4 39. Dont try to take the bay bridge early tomorrow morning. The implosion of the old bridge is just hours away. [ blast ] and this is a test blast video that caltrans released yesterday showing what the blast will look like. A bubble curtain will be used to help keep marine life safe and a bird Warning System will be sounded then the implosion is scheduled to happen early in the morning. This morning, caltrans Message Signs indicates the bridge will be closed between 7 and 8 a. M. Caltrans says it wont be much to see either. But we will stream it live if you want to check it out at cbssf. Com tomorrow. San Francisco Police will hold a Community Meeting today to discuss the latest Police Involved shooting. A gunman was killed wednesday after firing shots at st. Lukes hospital. Investigators say this Surveillance Video shows the gunman stealing a shotgun from a big 5 Sporting Goods senator san bruno. They say shortly afterwards, the man went to san franciscoer with fired the weather. Police identify the gunman as 25yearold Javier Lopez Garcia of san jose. A source told kpix 5s joe Vazquez Garcia ran into a construction worker and said something like, now im going to die. Officers shot and killed him. Investigators are still looking into a motive. This morning the pentagon is trying to determine whether a u. S. Drone strike in syria hit jihadi john, the isis militant who beheaded hostages on videos. Don champion has more. Reporter but by early 2015, the man with that taunting voice finally had a name. Mohammad a. M. Wascy also known as jihadi john, he was present and appears to have carried out the beheadings of isis prisoners including three americans. He has been hunted ever since. Americans will not be intimidated. Reporter a drone strike targeted him in syria thursday. The strike was on a vehicle thought to be carrying the militant. In a statement, pentagon officials said, quote, were session the results of tonights operations and will provide Additional Information as and where appropriate. People said he joined isis in syria around 2012. Some say he was radicalized after being harassed by British Security officers. In his early 20s, he was on a watch list frustrated he wrote a muslim group, i feel like a prisoner only not in a cage, in london controlled by security servicemen. Intruders bust into a bay area home and thankfully, these roommates had some interesting represents lying around. How they fought them off. ,,,,,,, Samurai Sword to fend them. Three wouldbe home burglars had the tables turned when the people inside pulled out a Samurai Sword to fend them off. The suspects tried to force their way into the hercules home tuesday night. And a young man living there punched one of them and forced him out. Two got into the living room and thats when a female roommate came out with a Samurai Sword and a 9 knife and another woman appeared with a crossbow and arrow. Show took it out. She threw this thing she took it out. She threw this thing out of here. She was holding it like this and had the other knife in her hand. We have no reason to believe that these people were targeted at this point. It may have been a wrong house. The suspects ran out. By the time police got there all three and their driver were gone. An nfl executive is giving the city of oakland high marks for its pitch to keep the raiders in new york but as Christin Ayers tells you the mayor has not offered up many specifics. We need to come with some specific dollar amounts on reporter those were the marching orders from the nfl after oakland mayor libby schaaf met with 15 League Owners yesterday to try to convince them to keep the raiders in oakland. She didnt come prepared to present hard numbers and had no budget or blueprints for a new stadium. I said that i thought we could make significant progress in two months. Reporter two months to come up with a plan to deal with the debt at o. Co coliseum and figure out how to pay for infrastructure upgrades. Kpix 5 insider phil matier has been following the negotiations closely and says this will be a balancing act. That deal has got to sit well with the voters of oakland, who already feel burned from the last raider deal. And on top of that, its got to ensure a way for the oakland as to also stay in town. This is a real tall order. Reporter a tall order further complicated by a competing plan to build a 1. 7 billion stadium in carson that the raiders would share with the san diego chargers. Mayor schaaf was blindsided yesterday when it was announced that disneys ceo bob iger would lead that project. Libby schaaf basically walked in and had the rug pulled out from under her. Today a group will begin collecting signatures to get marin countys Water District to stop using fluoride in water. The petition is asking for a moratorium on the use of fluoridation until the Water District provides details on whats in the chemical and whether its safe to ingest. And its tapping into the Atmospheric River and its providing a lot of heavy rain to the north of the bay area a couple of feet of snow anticipated also in the cascades. Otherwise we remain dry. The area of low pressure that developed in the gulf of alaska begins to descend in a southerly direction and erode that ridge of high pressure. Heres how im playing your futurecast. Thats the front in the north bay in the overnight hours. By 1 00 in the morning the front is past the north bay. There you have it across the central bay by 3 00 in the morning so while were sleeping, well be able to hear those raindrops on the rooftops. I love that. And then by about 7 00 in the morning the rain is out of here but behind it, scattered showers throughout your sunday very life. But by the time we tally it up very light. A sig alert in place for the richmond commute big rig on its side shutting down the carlson boulevard onramp to westbound 80. It will be closed until at least 7 00 this morning. Just a reminder the freeway itself remains open but carlson very, very busy road and a lot of folks use this to get on the freeway. Use central in the meantime to get on westbound 80. Meantime, we are getting more information on the caltrans sign that some folks are seeing on the approaches to the bay bridge. We just got off the phone with caltrans Traffic Management center. They tell us those signs are wrong. Right now those signs are reading that the bay bridge will be shut down from 7 to 8 tomorrow morning. We just heard from leah at caltrans who says those signs are wrong. The closure will be a rolling closure which will be in place 5 to 15 minutes before the bay bridge implosion which is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 6 45. So starting at around 6 30 a. M. , caltrans will begin to shut down some of the ramps leading towards the bay bridge. The transbay tube will also be shut down so this will cause some delays in the Early Morning hours but again, the closure is expected to last just for 15 minutes from 6 45 to about 7 00 tomorrow morning. Well pass more information to you. Make alternate plans now. Use the other bridges to get around the city. The transbay tube will be shut down to bart service during that time. At this hour heading over the bay bridge toll plaza, traffic is moving well out of oakland into the city. Thats a look at kcbs traffic. Now to frank and michelle.
