The gunman is now dead. But it has been a chaotic scene this afternoon. Fople fled and then First Responders converged on the nospital. Dean reynolds is there. Outside of mercy hospital. Shots fired in front of mercy hospital. Reporter the shots fired caound 3 20 local time this afternoon at chicagos mercy hospital. The guy has a rifle. Be careful. Hes got a rifle. Reporter eyewitnesses caught in the middle of it explained what happened. Ow it was like pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow. It was extreme and very loud and it was close. I saw a black man with a black coat and hat shoot a lady, i believe it was a lady, three times standing like we are here. Then he shot her three more times. Reporter officials believe the shooter targeted the woman. One person was killed and three others were critically injured, including a Chicago Police officer. You can see the trail of blood in the hospital. L. Lice swarmed the hospital. Nurses and doctors were seen with their hands raised coming out. And an hospital employee described the scene. Chaos. Isaos. You ever see a zebra get loose in a zoo . Thats what it was like. Reporter the area here at the hospital is now secure. We know that the gunman is dead, but we dont know whether he was killed by the police or took his own life. Jeff . Glor all right, dean reynolds. This is perhaps the most inhumane and vicious crime that i have handled. He was the one for me.
