Well begin tonight with new information and controversy over the Mueller Report. We learned today the report is more than 300 pages long. The attorney general sent out a fourpage summary of that. The special counsel said there was no evidence of collusion but left open the question of obstruction. The attorney general says no on obstruction, but democrats are demanding the full 300 pages. Republicans want a top democrat ousted from his post. Heres ed okeefe. I dont think its okay. Reporter democrat adam schiff strongly defended himself today against republican calls for his resignation as chair of the House Intelligence Committee. My colleagues may think its okay that the russians offered dirt on a democratic candidate for president as part of what was described as the russian governments effort to help the trump campaign. You might think thats okay. Reporter he continues to insist that President Trump and his campaign committed wrongdoing during the 2016 election. I think its immoral. I think its unethical. I think its unpatriotic. And, yes, i think its corrupt. Reporter that puts him at odds with attorney general William Barrs summary of the Mueller Report and made him the target of the president s ire. He should be forced out of office. He is a disgrace to our country. Reporter in a letter, republicans on the intelligence pam said that schiffs actions both past and present are incompatible with his role as head of the committee. We have no faith in your ability to discharge your duties in manner consistent with your constitutional responsibility and urge your immediate resignation. Report schiff is a television fixture, calling out the president s allege misdeeds regularly on daytime and latenight shows and in more than 34 sunday morning political talk show appearances in the last two years. All americans should be concerned with the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee taking the position of judge and jury. Reporter the normally camera friendly schiff said little on thursday. That is after the education secretary spent days defending the policy. More on this from major garrett. Ive been to the Special Olympics. I think its incredible. I just authorized funding. Reporter after days of controversy and criticism from both democrats and republicans, the president announced an aboutface. I heard about it this morning. I have overridden my people. Were funding the Special Olympics. Reporter his decision came hours after education secretary betsy devos faced another harsh grilling on capitol hill. Whoever came up with that idea should get a Special Olympics gold medal for insensitivity. I love Special Olympics myself. I have give an portion of my salary to Special Olympics. Lets not used disabled children in a twisted way for your that is just disgusting and its shameful. Well, madam secretary, let me tell you what, eliminating 18 million out of a 70 billion or 80 billion i think is shameful, too. Reporter devos had noted that the original disawtion receives most of its funding from private donations and therefore did not need 18 million from the government. After the president s announcement, devos said she had fought for the funding behind the scenes over the last several years. Tim shriver is the Special Olympics chairman. The federal government invests in education. It ought to invest in education that works. Special olympics is education that works.
