Ct reporter a desperate battle to save homes as flames raced up a hillside, exploding in size e rough the thick, dry brush. Garden hoses were no match, and residents, at least 200, scrambled to flee. It seemed all but inevitable that some of these houses would be consumed. But amazingly, a massive assault from the sky and on the ground stopped this fire at the last possible moment. Railings melted as firefighters kept flames at bay. You can see this plane dropping fire retardant over homes on the dantside, making sure any hot spots are out. Even after the imminent danger passed, firefighters were taking no chances, lining the steep hills, preventing flare ups. Theyre essentially clawing their way up this hillside with eocks coming down on them. Reporter the hills look out he the pacific. Homes that are among southern californias most exclusive. The danger of wildfire can be iltreme here, and residents are breathing a sigh of relief. Homes Still Standing after a fire that could have been catastrophic. They will not sleep. Firefighters say the flames raced up these hillside at almost an acre a minute, and norah, the fire threat isnt over yet. Those strong santa ana winds are predicted for later this week. Odonnell incredible reporting. Jamie, thank you. Tonight the National Weather service says a tornado that ripped through the dallas area last night was a powerful ef3 with winds of about 140mph. It blasted apart homes and omsinesses and left tens of thousands without power. Elsewhere at least two people were killed by falling trees in arkansas and oklahoma. We have some that are great fighters, but they have to get tougher and fight. Reporter fearing republican defections, President Trump tried to rally his allies, again declaring the house impeachment inquiry a democratic hit job designed to block his reelection. Theyre vicious, and they stick together. They dont have mitt romney in their midst. Reporter utah senator mitt romney drew the president s ire for criticism over his syria policy and approach to race. I think the places where i would be most critical of the president would be in matters that were divisive, that appeared to be appealing to racism or misogyny. Reporter romney also admitted to using an anonymous twitter account, pierre delecto, to criticize the president. Even staunch supporter Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said he would be open to impeachment if the president committed a crime. I find him to be a handful. I find him to be an equal opportunity abuser of people. But at the end of the day, he can be very charming and be very yracious. Reporter the president ignored questions about acting chief of staff mick mulvaney, who admitted the white house sought a politically charged investigation in exchange for foreign aid and said the idenidents golf club would host the g7, a decision mr. Trump eeversed over the weekend. Critics said the move would have violated the emoluments clause, which forbids a president from profiting from governments, both foreign and domestic. But they say his knowledge of congressional politics, budget and regulations give him an advantage, at least for now. Asth men, mulvaney and cipollone, are enmeshed in the ukraine controversy. My sources tell me the president might in the end decide to keep both men where they are to minimize west wing turmoil and maximize supervision. Odonnell all right, major. Thank you.
