Ron, you are retired. Where do we begin to tell the story like this . About five years ago or six years ago, ron and i started, we met one random day after a morning mass. Did you hear about the 40 days for life . We had not heard but active in the walk for life campaign, or the walk for life we were doing here. We thought this would be a Good Opportunity to investigate. Does it save lives . Does it change hearts to open for the possibility that this baby within a mothers womb could have a life if we prayed for them . We did that the first year, tom, we got an email everyday that would tell us what going on around the world as many places this year over 260 different cities around the world are praying to end abortion through prayers. We did it electronly, originally, after that ron said next lint, 2009, im doing the 40 days, are you in or out . We know the answer. Ron, why does it mean so much to you . It was the perfect way to do lint with prayer and fasting. Jesus says demons, some demons cant be driven out by prayer alone, it takes fasting as well. I thought this was a great opportunity for lint. Thats how i got hooked in to it. They were showing a lot of the results of this, where there were hundreds of babies saved from abortion. That caught my attention. Its a prayerful and peaceful event. You have locations where you are in san francisco, san mateo, its not antagonistic. They tell us, kathleen,. Correct. Lets start here. Here is a place we can begin. Its sacrificing your time. The hardest part about the sacrifice is waking up and saying im going to go in front of somewhere im uncomfortable and im going to try to make myself cometel comparable, its walking by faith. The first time i went, this was a gentlemen named hunt, i met ron, always said two people at the site from 8 00 a. M. To 8 00 p. M. When i came upon the site, there was ron, and hunt, two guys smiling going hey, we made it. We made the hardest part. That was getting together to pray. My first half an hour i was going to go for a half an hour, turn pd in to 23 hours. We hope to go to a wedding in bally in october in a gal i met in 2009 of the first prayer group. There are so many fruits. Whats the word you say, ron, with the graces . There are many graces. I think, the one thing that i get sad about is that i would like to have so many more people come to participate in this because it is such its filled with graces of all kinds and the people you run in to theres its great. I want to let people know there is a website 40daysforlife. Com. You have gotten so organized. How does it in the beginning . Now its web sites and t shirts. We wpt using the cell phones as much. Most of the people in the beginning were retired. We had to figure out how to work around using the internet, its great to send out emails but when people werent using emails it didnt work. We have 345 people receiving the daily email. Its day 15, we had 50 people come out to pray with us. Many come multiple times. We have had a couple of people saying im going to the Doctors Office nearby, i will be back and pray with you. We will ask that question when we come back on mosaic. Stay with us. We are back on mosaic, very happy to talk about 40 days for life with kathleen and ron. 40 days for life. You are prolife, you are at two locations, one in san francisco, one in san mateo. Its 8 to 8 peninsula. 8 days. We are talking about this and there is this is not appropriate and cant be a tithing time this is about an attempt to have people rethink abortion. So but you kathleen, come from a different perspective. At the university of tennessee i remember george bush senior coming and giving a speech on, it was a debate pro life, prochoice. I was on the side of the pro choicers. Get your roseries might be the first way i hear about the rosery. You just dont know how convincing or how powerful the holy spirit can be in changing a persons heart. Thats one of the best or easiest selling points for the 40 days for life campaign. There are so many of us that have had a change of heart or maybe a change of heart to just investigate further. What is going on when we hear 55 million babies have died since row versus wade. There are a lot of people wanting to know, am i a a part of this. Complacency and not hearing mortal sin or you are killing a human life is likely put people who years ago would have said my daughter is having a baby, is different now. We stand in the gap so when a grandmother to be who thinks her daughter is too young, instead of overwhelmed, there are people standing in the wing sides, adoption agencies, foster care, there are a lot of good people and thats who we hope to be representing as we stand on the sidewalk of the abort wares to say there are other choices and information. Im sorry, i thought of this, we found out up with of the Pregnancy Centers is charging 35. In the neighborhoods where we are, its a lower income area where people are struggling to make a 1500 month rent payment. Two of our sidewalk counselors refurbished the box of information to give out free pregnancy tests. I feel like we hear there is a need. How do we fulfill it . Every tuesday we had a diaper site. We had over 10 packs of diapers come. People hearing about the movement, not ready to pray yet but want to participate. The story is really the real story, isnt it . Its not just the one note that some people like to put in sometimes. We, i have so many experiences, its hard to figure out which up with i should tell you about. Last night, we had a young lady came who prayed with us, when we were praying on 80 street. She had a brand new baby with he. It was marvelous. Cute little thing. She is a latino lady. She showed me, she had on her cell phone all these pictures of her baby on ultra sound. It was gorgeous. I cant get over it. You would see he baby at 5 weeks and 10 weeks and 17 weeks. It was really something else. I was hoping we would have that to show there all the time. How does a message like this, prolife message ring through the world. Kathleens you have a big, you talk with people around the world everyday, ron, you are a retired dentist. What, how does this mess and, how does this ring . Do you have all kinds of people from all level of income and education that come to this or stay up late . Its a great question. The people that get the most angry are the ones that come out and follow us or join us. I say the socioeconomic background is all people. In the corporate world, so many put off having children. They thought they could control when the blessing would occur. Its been a pretty interesting dichotomy of people. There are a lot of people in their 40s that didnt have chirp and so focused on making the income or making the Glass Ceiling didnt trust enough in the possibility of pregnancy. Its something thats to budget in. You made me think of a couple of other things that have been really profound is that people that are most scared that are coming out and praying with us, have fascinating stories. Its really been a time of healing. Thats been pretty profound in that the average age during the day of the Prayer Warriors are probably the baby boomers, hitting the 60s to 70s. Slow down now. Im getting there. After work the people you see after 5 00, people that are just a little bit cautious or i will get email in the morning that will say kathleen, i didnt sign up yet but drove by yesterday and prayed a little prayer for your cause. I said, its not our cause its for the children so there is an Awareness Among the mothers. That communication traffic is a big deal. We got to sneak away, ron. We are coming back on mosaic, 40 days for life. Many people spend their lent, 40 days, very large in the christian world and especially large in the catholic world. We are looking at help save lives, a sheet that promotes 40 days for life. How did you come up with that . What does it say . Thankfully the national campaign, the 40 days for life people out of texas and virginia, have pulled off the money together to make sure we have continuity to the program and divide it in to the different cities san mateo and san francisco, last campaign, oakland and marin county. We are definitely seeing it spread. One of the things you mentioned before, how are we seeing this organically become bigger every year and has improved. Weve had more people on the sidewalks. A good statistic i heard was there were 200 buses for the 2012 walk for life. This year, 200 buses from out of town from 2013 walk for life. There was a 5 15,000 increase. We are receiving those people, we have a Young AfricanAmerican Woman who said she was set up, she was not a religious person, they are going against my people. You will hear about planned pregnancy than you hear about welcoming your child in to the world. She heard, she saw they were specifically targeting the walk for life. She came out and nearly fell oaf when we were standing at our 40 days booth, and i said, i lived in san francisco. She said she was the only pro life person she was buying in to the propaganda, they were being shipped in. She is out there with us praying, though she is not a religious person. She says im scientific, i know what is in my belly. Lets tell some of the stories. Who are these people, ron . The other thing i wanted to add to that is that in our culture today, it seems like when a woman gets pregnant that there is a sense that its a curse, instead of a blessing. Our witness there is part of our purpose is to educate people and try to get them to understand this truly is a gift from god, we should respect that and have these babies come in to our society sp and not kill them. Im thinking, you or some people who go by, or maybe approaching and feel differentlies might come looking for a fight, you are not looking for a fight. How do you handle that . We get a lot of challenges for sure. My response, i try to listen and say, thank you, god bless you, and just ignore the negative part of it. We are not there to be in an argument or debate, we are there to spread the good news, life is something to be cherished and not to be killed. We are talking about 40 days for life. The number 40. Find out the information, where the locations are, how to sign up and learn more, if you want to talk or if they want tow mail you and ask you questions that might be from a different perspective, they can do that. Lets find out about these people. You mentioned a couple of stories you wanted to tell, kathleen. We try to use these in proportion to this. It works a lot. Often praying in our father to help change the heart of the person that might be just walking by and having a negative attitude and your smile is like the best way, thats formula, which reminds me a colleague of mine, i asked for help for the lovely help save lives photo copy if he could put it on color copy and he left one on the copy machine accidently and was confronted, why are you getting involved in something so political, his response was i was adopted. He came out to our kickoff event and his testimony left the 50 of us there, just mesmerized. He is an air guitarist, a great disposition. I thought, from the photo copy, people want to tell their stories. Thats been the cool part is a lot of people that were adopted. 30 seconds, go. Last year we had one of the policeman that came by, he shared with us he was adopted. He was very supportive of what we were doing there, it was very heartwarming to hear that. Getting chased, we got to take a break. Well be right back. We want to challenge the moms and dads. A mother whose daughter is at one of the schools in the neighborhood coming over and saying, we are going, instead of going to get the starbucks, we are going to swing by and pray at the site. If we can get more parents to do that. When they we have the teens and the young men requesting that hey, mom, you want to go back there, or dads. Thats the need. We know all people, we have one young parent that comes from marin to pray with us at the site here. She came the first day she came with her four children. Like stepped up all the way. It was beautiful to see that. It was powerful there on the sidewalk. To see the Young Children there as well. As long as they dont let it control my life. Im able to be a happy wife is a happy life. Encouragement this year is my husband gave me a medal before the campaign began. Its our lady of touch, helped him to keep his anxiety down too and his nerves and our blessed mothers protecting us on the front lines. We have the website, 40 days for life. Com. There is a phone number. We are going to put that up so people can get to it. People can come just to be there. Correct. You can be sure the there will always be somebody there. If you come between a. M. And 8 00 p. M. , you wont be alone. We guarantee that. The website has it set up that way. If the time slot shows red, there is not enough people. If it shows up green we can count on three to four people. Yesterday i went by, ron had several hours off, i went about from 11 to 1, we had 7 people deep, which was such a great testimony. We did see mothers pushing their strollers passing us by, giving us the thumbs up. We know its hard. Its also life is a gift. Its been fun in a controversial city, there are so many good people here. Thats what i would have to say most about that. I have an excellent assistant. You are retired, ron. Im able to do this. I do have a tooth i want you to look at. We want you to exhort us. We have a little bit of time left. Kathleen,. Please, make a moment this lint, come on out, you know where we are, between army and mission. Your presence will make a difference, it can change the heart of someone, all you have to do is show up and the rest will take care of itself. Its an experience that you will never have any other way. You need such people there, such conversations, we pray and talk with each other about different experiences and there are fantastic stories i wish i had time to tell you all of them.
