World travel connection with Robert and Mary Cary and Rudy Maxa is pretty recorded and his brother to you by r.e.m. Travel syndicated solutions. The Globe it's time for your world travel getting with Robert and Mary Cary. Radio Network. 6 803 aged. 78025 that's 180-387-8025 business I'm going to read more of travel by car but follow us on Facebook and Instagram that I am a little trouble right now welcome to America's number one I'm already Osho. Welcome aboard everybody loves Robert here a little boy's problem today started out that Mary really and I we thank you for being here with us for America's number one travel radio show and from coast to coast border to border and up into Canada this is your place for anything and everything in the world to try well we hope you all had a nice week it's nice to be back with you live today and as we begin our one of the program today I can see that we have a very busy show ahead and a lot of fun discussions and travel topics are ahead as well so you know myriad really I'm going to look at over things right now I'm going to say maybe we should begin with the results of our latest travel polls as there was a clear winner in each category but then it gets a little murky as everyone else. You know they're pretty close when it comes to that so let's go let's go right into the right we're going to That sounds good to me Ok all right where you're going with that Minnesota I'm going to that minute because if I hear minutes and hours of between New York and Minnesota we're going to get right into that So here's the 1st question that we asked What do you miss most from the Golden Age of flying days and the results are that this surprised me maybe Mary and really I'd love to hear what smoking was permitted 25 percent in the mind I mean by out mess that. Next to me list you had plenty of room in your seat 1000 percent I would agree with them then tied for 3rd in-flight entertainment was mainly alcohol and post cards so Ok and then tied with that you got dressed up for flight travel which I would say I can just told you that that I'm going to journal you made and then we have coming up in 4th place meals were upscale and good quality often served on China probably true and last only 4 percent tickets cost lest I just found out that smoking was remitted came. Amber wand I mean they're not to tell you right now most of the smoking smoking voters have cigarettes cost more so I mean that's up there no that's not it I can like that for our 2nd question and since it's music related I think we should probably pay to play a bit of the song that we have here is what we ask what do you consider the best country song about travel and I'm going to give the results backwards on this right now the results are in last place with just one percent 10000 towns by the Eli Young Band. That we have at 12th were 12 percent and this is coming in in well I'm going to say it's 5th place I've been everywhere by Johnny Cash prize but have now got used to you thought of the show years ago we did 15 percent in 4th place Take Me Home Country Road and stay ahead of that show that song as a kid. But I didn't vote for that and then we're going to say tied for 2nd we used to. C let me. Go to college. Maybe Steadman now with that travel and. So that would be troubled man by Dolly Parton employ also tied for 2nd is this. The way to get all rolled. Out of the. World market that's occurring right. Now together oh yeah so they both top are stuck at 21 percent and then last but a lot about but actually 1st are less so not least here is that. Life is a highway Rascal Flatts that is the Rascal Flatts or perhaps every one percent yeah but if for those of you who know that song well that song was originally written by Tom Cochrane he's a well known Canadian songwriter and I like his version but Rascal Flatts it a pretty good job with that side of the great song you can't think it's on any favorites on there. Yeah I mean I'm I'm in love Johnny Cash I've been everywhere that came in and I suspect. That's sort of cool but Take Me Home Country Roads Yeah. Everyone All right well new travel polls will be up by Monday on our website at our admiral Travel dot com and we love when you go out there and vote so we like to see those results so we can talk about them on the air and just to move things along here I'm going to jump in and share what is coming up for all of us if you've heard the program the past 2 weeks then you likely heard that Robert and I paid a visit to the Ronald Reagan presidential library while we were out in California for our life remote broadcast and coming up in just a few minutes Melissa Geller will call in to the show from the Reagan Library as we share that location with all of you during today's personal connection episode so we black will be here this hour to talk with Rudy about grandparents and grandkids travel to dude ranches there will be a deals of the week segment for you we just did one recently but there are a lot of good deals out right now for travel and also ahead in our one today we're going to turn our attention to Monterey Carmel and Big Sur why why not with Rick all there for the 50th installment of our popular destination spotlight series one of our favorites are love that are afraid and you know on the program what we put on air for what 15 years the show has been around. And different machinations and so forth but we always start the destination spotlight series I guess back in April 27th team the goal was to ensure that we focused on lesser known u.s. Locations pretty much all of us know you know if we have to make a trip to New York or Orlando or Los Vegas or San Francisco Washington we know that but if you're nice that so many of you out there have decided to go travel with my We've got messages from some of you. Heading up eventually into reading all the e-mails and we may make some adjustments to the series at some point right now the qualifier has been for the destination spotlight has been that it's been a location that we've visited correct so we have a personal experience attachment to it I think we have at least another 20 to go on the list there are some more to come but today it's number 15 I want to speak about destinations right now and something that Mary and I we've talked about for years. That you really don't always need to travel far from where you live to enjoy the experience and on Thursday Mary proved that she and her older son enjoyed a Rolling Stones concert at Met Life Stadium that's the medal lands area here in the New York area and Mary how much did you enjoy seeing Nick in the game so one of my favorite. Bands of all time and I actually grew up in New Jersey I grew up with the old metal and stadiums now the Met Life Stadium have seen a lot of concerts there I have never seen a rally in stones until this past Thursday night and it will be no field to tour yeah. And I can not believe he's still going 76 years old he had heart surgery in the spring he still strutting his stuff and he can still belt those songs out as can you know on the guitar Keith Richards I mean these guys are all in their mid seventy's and I always watched rocking what you've been talking about it since you got the right time great time and then also Rudy I don't have a completely separate note we mentioned last week our engineer Bobby Well I didn't see anything in the news he took his longest flight of his life from Dallas to l.a. He came back no no news out there Bob you're survive you're all good you know anti-anxiety medications are wonderful thing so yeah it actually worked out well the worst part of the trip was trying to capture nuber out of l.a.x. Of 11 o'clock at night that was pretty painful but I'm pretty good. So you're ready to go international remote with us now yeah of course a lot of the water yeah everything's cured now. I said in house with Mary Robert and need today and Bobby for that matter when we return Melissa Giller will be on the show hotline to share some thoughts on why don't want Reagan Presidential Library is such a popular destination for travel it's all part of today's personal connection episode so much travel talk coming Stay with us. Nearby Sidney Valley Melissa Giller is an executive with the Reagan Foundation Library and Museum and we've asked her to join us today to help us share this special just nation with all of you welcome to. Thanks for joining us today. Experience at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Thanks for having me on your show thank you so let's start here regardless of whether you're a political person or not a visit to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum it really can't help but connects you to America. Is a time in world history that was pretty remarkable particularly globally and I know you've attracted more than 5000000 visitors over the past 25 plus years I'd like to know what you hear most often from visitors that surprises once they experience the museum. That so perfectly you know we feel like we are the library for Ronald Reagan he with a Republican president but coming here to be a Republican and that's what people we have actual Air Force One airplane that the president we have. We have a motorcade for the Berlin Wall we have a pool. Coming out here to the Reagan Library it's really. A great way to really reconnect with our story with the American president and it really doesn't matter what side of the aisle you're on there something here for you to walk away with enjoy and learn from I think also. You know listen as I previously shared with you off there. Has been very influential in my whole life and visiting the Ronald Reagan Library has been a bucket list item for me would never be able to fit in there but as a test I mean I really did exceed my expectations of our expectations I think I. Could have probably spent a lot more time there and at some point but probably struck me the most was. Talked about during his public life is captured in the library and museum and 1st of all it's a huge facility. The look was just beautiful with the views of the mountains the valleys the Pacific Ocean and the shining city on a hill he often reference before we get into some of the specifics that you know you mention if you were going to bore sharing with everyone listening right now a bit about the location that physical structure and one of the destination really connects with so many visitors sure so. Every president has you know gets a Presidential Library and Museum and when President Reagan and his foundation were looking for a location they had actually settled on Stanford University and they were getting ready to have plans they would consider getting really close to breaking ground at the last minute Stanford actually backed out the Hoover Institution is there and they were worried that they would look too conservative leaning if they had a Hoover Institution and the Reagan Library and condition on the premises so it was getting really close groundbreaking and they had nowhere to go and they were looking for a new place at the time they lived in Bel Air California which is your last is basically in Los Angeles their ranch was in the sandy of those mountains which is basically Santa Barbara and when they were looking for a place to build a library a gentleman came for who owned land in Simi Valley which is where we're located in Simi Valley happened to be pretty much the halfway point between their home the Bel Air and their ranch in Santa Ana and you know if you know anything about Ronald Reagan you know he was a horse man loved the outdoors loved nature nothing better for him than to get out with a ax and cut down some wood on those you know on his own and build a fence and at the time Simi Valley was a completely undeveloped city and so when he came up to our mountaintop I looked out there were you know you couldn't see houses as you said you could see the Pacific Ocean you could see horse trails you could see the mountains others been years overall one of the size of the property and he did so in love with I don't know how you could write so and so the building was built in Spanish style mission to really give him that sense like he was at his ranch and we just continued to grow upon that and keep our property growing with outdoor areas we created a White House out longer because the road. Just places to stroll and enjoy and enjoy the environment up here right just gorgeous similar so I do want to mention there are 13 presidential libraries across the u.s. Only 2 on the West Coast we notice that there is a passport for travelers to visit them all if they choose to do that with the Reagan Library it's also a destination because it includes a special exhibit space that features changing events and exhibits from all over the world and when we were there we happened to see the world if you've been to the ongoing exhibit or the current one with over 3 dozen reconstructions and works of art I've seen to be in other museums this was hands down as the best one that I've ever made so well done why was that exhibit space important to Ronald and Nancy Reagan. So we want t
