because the creek is so high we have so much water coming into the canal.upwards of 4 feet of water seeped onto the freeway, causing it to shut down. sot - several hundred vehicles were backed up. we had to turn all of them around to get them off the freeway.sot - it's scary and i just worry for everybody's safetycoyote creek topped its banks and drained into the coyote canal earlier this morning.eventually the pressure caused a break in the canal all that water flooded the freeway.sot - at one point it was 3-4 feet. it was almost all the way up the jersey wall herevehicles have been rerouted all day and night . sgt. tom melden / california highway patrol - sot - going northbound 101 to cochrane, then cochrane westbound over to monterrey road, then monterey road northbound to get back on the freeway.that caused a lot of traffic and frustrationsot - it's just been a long day. im coming from big sur and all the roads there are caving insot - it's pretty bad but luckily i have some drinks, the radio, some food.while working to fix the current problem, the santa clara water district is also preparing for future storms. aaron baker / santa clara valley water district - sot - we also have several breaches upstream that we have made and will make deeper once the dam is all the way there, so that the water can have a chance to exit and pond into this area instead of a very small covert upstream.standupstandupat this hour the freeway is still being drained.once all the water has been cleared from 101, caltrans will come in and clean up all the debris.the goal is to reopen the freeway by midnight tonight.reporting live from morgan hill. good news for drivers in the south bay. highway-17 has finally reopened after being blocked by a massive mudslide for nearly two weeks. now all northbound lanes in the scotts valley area... between vine hill road and sugarloaf... have been cleared of mud a debris. this is what it looked like as crews worked to move all that mud off the road.. thanks to crews that worked around the clock....lanes are now open to drivers. toss weather flooding concerns continue "president donald trump: "the anti-semitic threats targeting our jewish community and community centers are horrible, and are painful, and a very sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root-out hate and prejudice and evil." president trump delivered a direct condemnation of anti- semitism today. his comments came after dozens of bomb threats at jewish centers across the united states. also today: the homeland security department laid out the trump administration's plans for aggressive enforcement of immigration laws. pamela brown takes a closer look at what it could all mean for undocumented immigrants. tonight -- the department of homeland security releasing ánewá guidelines that could massively expand the number of people detained or deported from the u-s.recently ice arrested more than 680 people in raids - will spend life in prison. it happened after a bank robbery in stockton back in 2014. the hostage: 41-year-old misty holt-singh was killed during the nearly hour-long chase and shoot-out. the suspect didn't speak in court today... but as kay recede shows us the victim's mother did. ' wednesday july 16th my daughter was taken from me.' through sobs... karen farmer tries to talk about the day she lost her daughter misty holt singh...'i canút do it. i canút do it. 'while her emotions eventually overcome her... there are no words... no tears ... not even a glance from the two men found responsible for mistyús death 'iúm going to lose it, iúm going to lose it.'cousin kristine kosher eventually reads the letter... but still jaime ramos and pablo ruvalcaba remain unphased.
