And you can see some of the low cloud cover thats pushed back into the bay itself. A sure sign of Mother Natures ac flipping the switch. Back on now. But youve also got a cool down just around the corner. Keep a close eye on future cast here. So we are in the midst of some fog this morning, maybe even some drizzle and mist out into the Santa Cruz Mountains near the coastline tonight. Watch as we see those clouds rolling through the bay area from the north. You see it right here in future cast. This is a cold front that drops. And during the overnight hours tonight into early tomorrow morning and this will mean a whole change of seasons or at least it will feel like it into the weekend. Temperatures as much as 20 degrees cooler for daytime highs from our inland and bay shore cities yesterday on into the weekend ahead of us now, High Pressure ridge and pretty large stable, a warm air mass is built up across the entire west coast. This is keeping temperatures very warm from the pacific northwest, the Northern Rockies into the Desert Southwest and of course, here at home. But were about to flipflop with the east coast, which has been seeing in early season freeze. Theyre about to warm up and were about to fall right back into some fall conditions. These next few days. Although you wont need them today, its still going to be a warm one today. Temperatures next week overall are going to trend cooler. And thats something that we can expect all the way through next week. As for bridges, bay bridge, looking nice and clear. You do have some low cloud cover overhead, but thats not interfering with the commute. San mateo bridge also looking good. Just a few tail lights making your way on towards the peninsula. Still at the limit, Richmond Center fell a few more cars than what we saw earlier. But nothing slowing you down just yet. A compromise has been reached, which will decrease the amount of time opd can retain the information recorded on those cameras. Kron fours as he has all the details. Although mated license plate reader cameras will continue to roll in. Oakland should be worried now that the Oakland Police department will continue to have a license plate readers of thanks to some of patrol cars. Thats a question thats, you know, to be determined. Brian hofer is the chair of oaklands privacy commission, which recently reached a compromise with the city council for mending an ordinance aimed at regulating opd has continued use of license plate readers. We did increase the retention moment. The privacy commissioner recommended certain days. Its now its 6 months as recent as june and july. This year we were able to solve 2 separate homicides using this technology, according to opd spokesperson officer kim armstead, alpr cameras are used to solve an incident that occurred back on june 9th involving the shooting death of a 16 yearold boy. In another case, she says automated license plate readers are used to locate and arrest a suspect in the july 17 deadly shooting of an uber driver and the Little Saigon district. I want to be clear that we by no means, you know, are intending to be invasive. And anyway, you know, with the privacy of our community, again, this retention period just allows us simply allows us more time to effectively investigate these cases. However, the new license plate reader ordinance has an additional incentive from civilian oversight of opd in the form of quarterly reporting to deter any invasive privacy use. I feel more comfortable about the place. You know, the label finally went on. We understand how closely people are watching this issue. And i would expect that creating incentives for for better behavior. In oakland, haaziq kron. 4 news. Kron 4 is your local election headquarters. The city of san jose is about to welcome a new mayor for the first time in nearly a decade, the race for the citys top job is between Council Member matt mahan and Santa Clara County supervisor cindy chavez. The 2 candidates took part in a debate hosted by the rotary club of san jose and sparred over homelessness. Mahan said the san jose is putting too much faith in costly longterm, Affordable Housing as a solution. Instead of providing more emergency shelters. While chavez says the city needs to address the problem. Now, while also planning well into the future. We have a crisis on our streets. We should be acting like the house is on fire. Not waiting to build a fire engine grab a bucket and put out the flames. And i just i think. I think that weve been far too willing to say, well, you know, were working really hard. Were helping people. Weve got to just keep going. Were going to actually get there. Were not at this rate, frankly, what im calling for a significant change in direction because it 5 years to build an 850,000 or versus 6 months to build and 100,000 or clearly, we need to scale up the solution that gets people into a safe individual unit as quickly as possible. And frankly, that is not what weve been doing for far too many years. First of all, the problem is, is in complex and it is just wrapped in human suffering the law. And i just want to also say when you say we it. You joined this revolution very late and in 2015. We created. With all of our cities and approach that started to get people. How since 2015, weve housed 20,000 unhoused people. Were not waiting and i am taking this very seriously. And it is important to have every single tool available. And that does include interim housing. The part of the reason were building permanent housing is because eventually if youre an interim housing, have to get to permanent housing, which is why you have to build permanent housing. And by the way, most of the housing that we house people in this housing that already existed. Mahan and chavez also went back and forth over the topic of public safety. Chavez said that the city hasnt moved fast enough to increase Police Staffing while mahan claim that given chavezs role as a county supervisor, she should have already helped address Law Enforcement staffing.
