Marcy jones as more on the history of the pipeline and local reaction. Thats right, this is something thats been argued over for years, but once the u. S. Army corps of engineers granted the permit to build the pipeline, several hundred protestors forced construction to halt. Now its up to a judge to make the final decision. They were making the stand not just for the tribe, not just for other tribes that are in the area, but for people that live reporter he says even people who dont live near the massive pipeline shouldbe gravely concerned with the construction of it, especially if something doesnt go as planned. And if Something Like that were to happen with the size pipe that theyre working on, it would have done incredible it would do incredible damage to the whole ecosystem. Not only that, but the economy. Reporter even though this is a fight about the future, beget says it digs up an ugly history from the past. You see the fight that our put up trying to protect the buffalo, trying to protect the land that they lived on traditionally, trying to protect the Natural Resources even back then. Reporter while the clash continues to heat up between protestors and supporters of the pipeline, begay says the only Silver Lining is that a new generation is discovering a passion for their culture. Young people are saying, you know, this is where were we dont understand our language, we dont speak our language, we live off the nation, we have jobs away from the reservation, but to come back here is that were understanding what it means to be native americans.
