It needed 60percent. The money will be used to pay for improvements at each of the five iowa lakes campuses. The temperatures are going to dip into the Single Digits tonight. But, that could soon be changing. Iowa lawmakers recently advanced two plans that would raise the speed limit from 55 to 60, or to 65. But, with that increase comes concern. The Iowa Department of transportation is neutral on the issue, but they say theres risk involved. Although the plans are on track to pass, theres still miles to go before the speeds would change. Drew says he sees the agreement as a necessity for smaller towns in the county. He says having one or two cops for a small town is costly and drains their budgets. And, the agreement signed today will help correctionville with patroling and keeping people safe. I think the visibility of having the Sheriffs Office there and the stability helps the communities. Its been well received by the communities. I think theres been some concern in the beginning, but they found that it just provides better protection, said Woodbury County sheriff, dave drew. Every community in the county has signed the agreement except for moville, which will be signing an agreement soon. Woodbury county supervisors are also focusing on the future of their smaller, Rural Communities. The county Rural Economic DevelopmentDepartment Proposed using local option sales tax dollars to do some longterm planning. The project would look at future land use, zoning ordinances, economic and community development. Cities that already have plans Rural Communities in the county that dont. What im trying to do is help these communities do some Long Range Planning and we need to really take a hard look at their community, their existing capacities and find out what do you want your community too look like in the next 20, 30 years, said Woodbury CountyRural Economic Development director, david gleiser. Next week, the supervisors board will look at a proposed budget for the project and begin making moves.
