Investigators confirming police were called out for a report of a man wielding a knife at this shopping center. Police tell us when they got here the suspect was still armed with a knife. They say there was a verbal exchange before at least one officer opened fire. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No word yet on how many times he was shot or whether he is expected to survive. Police also would not confirm for us how many officers were involved at the shooting but said that none of the officers was hurt. Also one of the sergeants out here telling me they do expect them to be out for at least another hour or two while the investigation is continuing tonight. All right. Thank you. Police say that around 7 15 tonight a sergeant tried to pull over a black pt cruiser at a traffic stop. Again this happening in richmond. Instead of stopping they say the driver took off. Police say a short chase ensued before the passenger with a gun jumped out of the car and took off running. New at 10 00 a couple on a morning walk found an explosive device at a park today. They described it as a possible home made explosive device. They were walking through the park. The couple described as the device as a jar with a flammable substance. Deputies arrived and blocked off the park. The san mateo bomb squad responded and dismandled the device at the scene. Two men killed in an oakland Apartment Fire are being mourned tonight. Christina talked to neighbors who say they rushed to help when the flames broke out. Reporter a beeping sound in the still of the night was the first sign something was wrong in this west oakland neighborhood. The Smoke Detector was going off for at least five minutes. Reporter firefighters looked inside the building for 10 minutes and found the problem inside unied d. Thats when they started to try to break down the door. The second they did they smoke started spilling out. And he yelled for us to get out. I started taking my flash light and running up and down the block and was like fire fire get out. Reporter two men inside unit d. A 35yearold and 28yearold died. One of the people was an artist. He is a talented painter. And he also did sculp tures. And was very popular in the bay area. Reporter the second victim just moved in with the artist. Nearly three dozen people were displaced. This is an old armory. Converted into live work space s. And smaller apartments. So theres a lot of ways for the fire to really get going here. Reporter investigators say the fire also broke a water heater inside the burning unit adding to the extensive water fire and smoke damage. Its why restoration crews were called to cleanup and the red cross stepped in. This is a really disturbing event today. Really i wanted to come by and say that the city is sorry that this happened to you. Its our job to keep everyone safe. Reporter neighbors are shocked and eager for investigators to figure out how this fire started. This group of people is just the nicest people in the world. Its very sad this happened. Were thankful to be alive. Reporter one of the teenage boys who admitted to sex wall assaulting a south bay girl reached a settlement with the victims family. Audrey pots committed suicide after the assault and the alleged sharing of cell phone pictures with students at sarah toga high school. When the criminal case resulted in juvenile sentences the family sued for wrongful death. Yesterday they reached a settlement for an undisclosed amount and the other two attackers have shown no remorse. A 40yearold man is under arrest in connection with the body dumped in a barrel in front of sonoma city hall. Police say they were called to city hall last night. There they discovered a barrel covered with bloody blue plastic tarp and mans body inside. Investigators arrested Christopher Mcknight at a mobile park two miles away. They are not yet releasing the identity of the victim. A man swinging a machete at a Security Check point at the new Orleans Airport died. He was shot by police as he chased a security agent. Reporter Authorities Say that Richard White walked into the new Orleans Airport like any other traveler. Got into the tsa precheck line and was confronted by an officer checking ids. He tried to storm the check point. Pulled out a can of wasp spray. Sprayed one officer in the face. A second later he pulled out a machete more than foot long and sliced another officer in the arm. Another protected himself with a passengers bag. White chased a female officer through the detector. Thats when a lieutenant with the Jefferson ParishSheriffs Office shot white three times. He saved a lot of peoples lives. This man was swinging hard. Hard with that machete and if he would have made contact with anybody it would have been terrible. Such a sad story. An accident at point raise this afternoon killed a hiker and seriously injured a second hiker. They were on arch rock when part of the cliff collapsed and they fell 70 feet. Rescue crews brought them into hospital. But one died before reaching the hospital. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims. U. S. Troops are evacuating a yemen air base after alkidey launched an offensive on a nearby city. The troops are said to be the last American Military force in yemen. This is after two deadly suicide bombings. One survivor said the blood was flowing like a river after the bomb. Many killed were children. When the first explosion happened they used the chaos to enter the mosque in prayer and blow us up from inside and the first line of the congregation. The attacks are the first since they set up a branch late last year in yemen. 7 children from one family were killed in a house fire in new york city. Investigators believe a faulty appliance may be the blame. Officials say the house did not have enough Smoke Detectors. Fire Officials Say the flames started shortly after midnight while children were sleeping in bedrooms at the back of the brooklyn home. More than 100 firefighters raced to the scene to help. Injured several people. The lift at Sugar Loaf Mountain suddenly started rolling backwards. The reversal ejected skiers hurting several and sending four to the hospital.
