Term radio to salute the farmers of Oklahoma Missouri and Arkansas and their families during the annual farmer appreciation days farming is a vital part of the nation's economy and we appreciate their dedication and hard work for the people of northwest Arkansas. Then thank you Mayor Farmer Appreciation Day is made possible by a cornerstone bank by agone strategies by Benton County Farm Bureau and Austin drug just to name some of our farm oriented supporters out there good morning everybody and welcome to the party line here On Wednesdays we have a short show of Ensign Xavier comes in at 11 and brings in new line ministries which is always an invigorating hour for you on Wednesday so we have a 55 minute timeframe here to work with and hopefully we can have some good input here this morning when I guess one of the logical questions would be did you watch the debate last night and what was your impression you know I thought as a whole. That all of the candidates did a pretty good job there was a little. One on one conflict there with Elizabeth Warren being I guess the target it's kind of interesting how you can summarize that when the polls show that somebody is surging they are the ones that that get targeted and that's kind of what it was last night I thought they were they went pretty easy on the vice president and the colonel still believes that that's the only candidate that they've got that has a good chance of knocking off the Donald unless you have some revelations so additional revelations that come up between now and election but boy did Trump get battered last night and the cartoonist they still are having a field day you may have seen this picture this morning where all of these different individuals were laying under a bus which was all about to tilt over and the caption was. We were going to need a bigger bus thrown so many people under the bus the Donald that they need a bigger bus or it's going to it's going to capsize I guess you could say so everybody's having their their day their say and all of that well the cardinals if you're a Cardinal fan here what can you say what can you say they were in the make in their run production through the 1st 3 games of the of the series and went into last night game the. Starting pitchers for Washington in the 1st 3 games there are a was 0 they did not give up any runs and last night the starter didn't give up any runs either so. They. The game started and of course said the backs of the wall had to win 4 in a row in order to go to the World Series and we really knew that was a stretch but the 1st inning 7 to nothing we fell behind 7 zip in the 1st inning and well for all practical purposes the wind was out of their sails for doggone sure and everybody will who's a Cardinal fan will be of course talking about what's the problem with this team they they are not real good hitters It just seems seems to me and swing at a number of pitches that are outside the strike zone I've never seen a team in my life that is more susceptible to swing at pitches in the dirt and low and outside they just can't seem to do it they don't advance runners and it is a kind of a dismal situation Cardinal fans turned out and in masses year that were over 3 and a half 1000000 people that attended the games I think that the fans are going to want a little better performance there a particularly here at the end of the season you know they went from the final game of that 1st playoff with Atlanta where they scored 10 runs in the 1st inning 13 runs in the game to where they did not get an earned run against a starting pitcher for Washington and they took it on the chin yet more hits in that last game of Atlanta than they did in the entire 4 game series more runs than they had in the entire 4 game series so there you go it's one of those one of those things and you know you've got to say this and and you know we're not a fair weather friend we support our team is whether they be at the high school level or college or whatever but boy if you're a football fan in current country and you look at what has happened with the Cardinals in baseball and what has happened with our high school teams in Rogers. And what has happened with the Razorbacks and if you can find some excitement out there tell me about it tell me about it it's it's not been a hay day for doggone sure well what is on your mind this morning we as I say have a short show on on Wednesday so rather than prolong this we'll let's just tell you that you're listening to the mighty 790 k. We played trivia this morning and David Show and of our staff he ran this off and I'm looking at art today in history and unfortunately this says today is Friday May 4th the 124th day of 2018 so I think he gave me a bum steer this morning but anyway we. We had a trivia question that unfortunately was not answered and that was the 1st Grammy awards ceremony and what was the song of the year it was no blue the pentode the blue the Lhari and the album of the year was Harry Henry Missy need men seen He's music from Peter Gunn remember that all right 6367979 will get you in locally 807677979 is our national watch line and so far our audience is. Is not all that geared up to. To be involved this morning so to speak so there you go let's see if we could get something going here we go to the watch line this time a good morning this is party line. Well I want to talk about something a little different what you talked about the last few days. And occasional programs which. Came out in the paper yeah the grades on the school right right if you really look at those things much that you have any I looked and I looked at them and I saw where it it was the requisites were the criteria was quite a few things and I'm I'm not really qualified to know how how important those things were but some of the feeling that I noticed on going through this thing is that the higher the grade the lower the score in other words high schools yeah a lot lower than elementary school or primary school I know as if they had they had the abs in season these were different for for the different. Classifications one thing but you take a school district any school he want to look at and you'll see 'd that the elementary or the lower grade students made higher than the high school. I did didn't notice and you know another thing which stands out to me which I have said a long time of the next school teacher is that the foundries do not really make a difference in other words making difference which school. It doesn't reflect it getting a better education. Let me let me ask you a question to this is a. Quiz here this morning Ok you say the salaries don't make any difference and that you're probably right. In your opinion what are the really important factors that determine why one school scores a lot higher than another school what it what are some of those factors. Well I was based on my experience the probably the most important thing to me is the parents care if the parents value an education a lot of this path of on to the students some out but that seems to me if the parents are really interested in the students you know what they do in school will be reflected in their their grades probably Well there's no in my opinion there's no doubt about that that when you have parents that are involved and they are interested in what the kids doing in school is grades etc and they monitor that for for that performance then you're going to let kids go to do a lot better and I'll tell you what I was driving at and I'm I don't want anybody to be offended by this but I'll tell you when you when you start getting a large percentage of minority students and particularly in in the case of like places like Springdale and other places where you've got a heavy population of of Hispanic kids and these youngsters in many cases are in homes where English is not really spoken as the basic language. Then you're got your scores are going to impact that also in the inner cities where you've got a lot of minorities and you've got families that are a little bit chaotic. You're going to have lower scores and and you all you have to do is look at places like Haas hall or they've got kind of a elite group of students there and for one reason or another now this lady from Springdale called Bill Fayetteville says Well they've got open enrollment and you can get a lot of rain you get in there but I want to tell you if you're not a pretty swift student you don't want to get in there for one thing and number 2 you can't stay there and make your grades if you if you don't have the i.q. And the wherewithal to to do it now do you see that. I'm not hearing a lot I think of last thing and that's that's the Colonel's point of view I'm sorry that we lost that last caller from Elkins but I think being a school teacher he would probably let me see this maybe him here he may agree with me 'd and we lose and call so it's one of those things you know technology these days sometimes goes awry waiting for your call this morning but what he was talking about was the fact that there's no correlation between the pay scale and the scores but I do believe that when you have a higher pay you're going to get a gravitation of the more qualified teachers and therefore it's going to it's going to work out that that it places an unfair situation on parts of the state where they don't pay that much that's why the Colonel has always said that the pay for teachers ought to be handled just like military pay where the pay is based on the amount of education that the teacher has the longevity or the years he's taught and it ought to be the same if it's in the with Arkansas or West Memphis as it would be in Fayetteville or Bentonville Now that's a lot of a lot of people not going to like that and particularly in the superintendents in northwest Arkansas do not they're not like that because they've got a huge advantage and a big advantage over other parts of the state Let's go to another call on the watch line again this is party line. Yeah water is dead they are alive and the girl has been around and for a while now well I tried to answer their moment ago and I got a dial told they're still the most maybe I was a schoolteacher on the dot all but. Brought forth a little information that would answer a lot of questions as far as this test scores go we can make up excuses like chaotic family life which I guess interprets to no father and all bastard children are Guess that's what somebody might mean by that but the reality of the situation was the 30 year study conducted with the now each pregnant by university in Canada and in the United States showed that each race and it was the averages either their intelligence would be Orientals or the Asians at the highest and white on down to the black so we can sit here and deny science if we want we do it every day with the climate change we'll have our local climatologists the field the wind are all up and and give us the actual scientific information that we clearly get from the law but the reality is that's what you're looking at and the fact like I said that there's no father in the home now let's talk about something more important on Monday my was that the Denver through my grandchildren and mine they go watch the band broke in it's like a crow metal band so I had to go to Wal-Mart that night and I went over there and I thought Well just maybe they might have some mic and put it back together that and so this woman Stephanie came over and she was them fellers a team of 3 around boxes and boxes of junk she had all watches stuff like finally found him that wo
