Hundreds marched to the steps of the State Capitol right before the game in protest of the 3. 7 billion Dakota Access pipeline pipeline. It will stretch 1100 miles from north dakota across four states to Oil Refineries in illinois. Underneath the mississippi river. Protesters in denver and north dakota worry about possible leaks. They also dont want to see sacred burial grounds from native americans disturbed. Earlier this week, a judge temporarily halted construction along a section of the pipeline because some of the protests got violent. Exactly one week ago, a Douglas County detective was shot while this morning he is still in the hospital getting life saving treatment. Were going to be hearing about his condition, how hes doing, as well as the latest on the investigation into the shooting. We are live this morning outside of parker add hospital. Adventis hospital. This goes to show the support that the community has given detective brite and his family. Numerous restaurants and businesses are having fundraisers and donating some of the proceeds in order to help him and his family in all of this. Detective brite was shot by a he started shooting at officers. Officers returned fire killing the suspect. Detective brite was critically hurt. The Sheriffs Office says he is making promising progress. They believe that since it was about a mile from here that he was able to get to the hospital so quickly that helped save his life. Back to the Community Efforts here, this sunday afternoon at 3 00, members of the community along with his family, they will gather here in the hospital lot to show support for detective brite. They want him to look out hospital window and see blue balloons and a crowd outside supporting him. Then on monday there will be a blood drive at the Parker Police department. There are limited spots in that, about 40 spots, so they say if you can not call ahead to make an appointment, talk to the blood center and talk about donating in his honor for that as well. They are dedicating a sign for officer ed smelder who was killed when his officer discharged at the five point st down the street where it happened at the blare caldwell library. Its part of a memorial ahead of the anniversary of 9 11 on sunday. Four officers killed on the job will be honored and all with similar memorial signs. The ceremony started thursday with officer daryl sure who was killed 54 years ago. He was killed off duty eating a meal with his family in what was then the marigold cafe. Three Armed Robbers walked in and the detective stepped in. He was shot in the chest and later died. Honored saturday and sunday. We have been talking about these colorful sunsets. New this morning, a 5year old girl is found trapped inside a burning home hiding in an upstairs closet. 9news reporter Colleen Ferreira is live at the home in lakewood looking to get some dont know their conditions, right . Reporter no, we dont, guys. Your heart just really goes out to this family and those firefighters involved. The firefighters tell us they rescued that 5yearold little girl from the house fire. She was hiding in the closet upstairs at the time that they got upstairs to find her. That little girl taken to the hospital. Her father also taken to the hospital. Guys we just dont know their conditions right now. Really hoping for some positive news. Hopefully soon. You can see investigators over while just kind of going through this part of the home specifically. You can see the damage of this area of the home. We know it was a family of four inside the house. Two parents, two children. When the fire started just after midnight, three of the four family members made it out of the home, and then firefighters rescued the little girl hiding in a closet upstairs. So far, investigators say a Smoke Detector was found on the first floor of the home, and they say its possible there its too difficult to figure out at this time. The cause of the fire they say is still under investigation. It may have started on or near a back deck. We are on the backside of the house, and so thats why we can show you kind of these images of maybe somewhere where the fire started on the backside of the home. These firefighters we know they put their lives on the line every day, and they did that for this family. A tough day for have been through, and the firefighters too.
