Lets take a look at the area that will be affected. The project is near north las vegas. It will expand a stretch of highway between craig road and speedway boulevard. And this project will do more than help people coming too and from speedway events. Las vegas motor speedway president chris powell says widening the 115 is a much needed change to our valleys freeway system. It impacts the whole community, when you travel northbound or southbound, youre going to have so much more space to maneuver. That means fewer backups, which is good for the environment, it is good all the way around for people who want to live more efficiently around the valley. Powell says between 70 and 80 percent of speedway guests are not from nevada. So they hope this i15 widening will encourage more people to come back to las vegas. The project costs 34 Million Dollars, which comes from a small tax you pay each time you fill up your car at the pump. And this isnt the only major project underway.
