Casey stays in it. Nice up and down. Were on our way to having three pars posted here at 18. Guess what, were going to have a little audible here. Were going to stay across the nation on cbs for this next hole. Going to be the 10th hole, one of this great holes in the world. Now going to be the site of where this will all be decided. They march on, just a short walk over to the 10th. There it is. Drivable but that is one of the scariest little holes youll find anywhere. As gary mccord was telling us hours ago in our broadcast, just a little over 300 yards and it was the second most difficult hole of the day. Nick it ended up being the sixth toughest hole of the day. And it average peter and it averaged 4. 2 over par obviously. Ian whats interesting here now, well stay with the same order again theyll stay with the same order, dustin will be first. Whats the strategy, whats the mind game in a threeman battle when it comes to how you attack this drivable par 4 . Nick dustin more than likely will go for it, he has the luxury of grabbing even a 3wood. Their goal, if they miss, unlikely to hit the green but theyre just trying to get to the level with the green somewhere in that nice fairway section, kind of pin high. David with the breeze back into their face now and its colder than it was when they played in regulation someone takes 3wood out there theyre playing for short front of the green and driver theyre playing to knock it on. Nick peter would you think i think driver would be better. If he went long, theres a better chance of options to chip on being long on the green rather than short. Peter theres always sorts of options. I like vijay hitting the front bunker a nice bunker shot about four feet away and made birdie. Maybe thats the formula. Theres all sorts of formula. Thats going to be a bad angle because that is in the rough. Hes got to go over the edge of the bunker. David he hit it about six or eight yards too far. Oh dear. Nick how far hid he hit that 3wood . Nick hst 303 to the flag and hes passed the flag. Theres the flag back there. Peter 3wood now paul casey. If he can get in that bunker on the green somehow. Marshall likes it right down the middle. Nick thats the spot i was talking about. Great spot. Peter perfect. Nick he can bank that with a nice drawing chip shot. David you can almost make four of them there. Peter same thick. Just perfect. And thats that driving area over there to get perfect is oh, about the size of your throat you hit it anywhere other than that youll Start Playing tricks. Day james hunt going with driver now. David james hunt going with driver now. Peter thats going to go too far and get back in that longer grass over the bunker. Paul casey in perfect position on the 10th hole. Jim heres the lineup tonight on cbs. Beginning with 60 minutes. Remembering bob simon. Fedex Cup Standings when its all pleated james hahn wins, he would move into the top 10. Meanwhile, dustin wins, hes up to 14th. Missed cut in his first tournament back at torrey. Fourth last week at pebble beach. Final round 66. Paul casey would move to 14th if he won. Going to be really difficult at this point to figure out how d. J. Is going to be able to handle this. Remember when we had the playoff three years ago gary, you called it, it was hawes and Keegan Bradley and phil mickelson, hawes was able to get on the front of egreen and drained it to win it. Gary yeah. And thats exactly how you know we got two guys on the ground but i dont think literally from where they are, i dont think you could throw a bean bag and stop it by the flag. I think theyre going to have to go this is going to put severe pressure on what they do, peter kostis. If he hit this is ball close its going to be interesting. Peter this is match play at his best. If he hits it inside of six feet theyre probably going to have to go after that nag an who knows what happens then. And this is no bargain. A low hook, trying to track it back there. Thats going to leave paul about 15 feet. Peter, you work with paul a lot. If he just got that ball, inside the six feet, theyre going to have to go for it. I think they both play to the right and dont even take on that pin. Peter thats the conundrum with this hole. In match play theyd play to the right of the bunker and take a 35footer. Gary hahn is not looking to the right. David going to the right is not that easy a shot either. Peter hes making a swing like hes going to go high and try to get it as fast as possible and see what happens. Gary thats perfect. Beautiful golf shot by james hahn. Ranked 389th in the world. No problem. David what a shot. He had half a lie you know. Dustin is, you know, in a nasty gnarly looking hes going to have to play a big sweaty bunker shot and hope for the best. Gary youd think these two on the same lie dustin is going i cant flip it to the right and try a 40footer. Thats not going to work. David hes playing unbelievable. Gary he put spin on that ball. Wait a minute. Whoa whoa, whoa. Whoa. That ball checked. David something had to happen. Gary that ball cant check out of that stuff. Its like hitting out of laundry. Wow. That got my attention right there. Rerouted that to the inside, got way up in there. That ball kind of rolled out. Thats what it usually does. Watch this next shot now. Just, you heard it was kind of thick. But watch it check right there. David didnt see that coming. Gary under the circumstances those are two of the fipest shots you will ever see. Ever. Players who won year after finishing runner up. Dustin johnson was the runner up in 2014. Show ponies at their best. Actually got to meet lloyd magrem up in apple valley, many many years ago. Ok peter kostis, we know one thing on this green it breaks pretty good right to left. Paul made it, paul dedicated himself not to play the European Tour this year, come over and play this tour and get it going. This will be a good start. Oh man. I know dustin is going to make that one. James hahn has to make this. Dustin is getting geared up over there. What a shot that was. Nick i think the great thing about that, there was no choice for him. That was it, 100 , i have to go for it. And they both pulled off sensational shots. Gary i dont think, mid day today, i dont think they could have done that. But weve had some rain, its gotten a little softer. And the greens were just bouncey enough that you couldnt go at those. Anyway had a good look. Gets pretty good putter. Can he manage his nerves . Well find out. In the middle, james hahn. This is his 64th event on the tour. I think hes only had four top 10s. Great kid by the way. Really nice man. David what are the chances that the two guys ahead of him would be the two guys that might go on. Gary unbelievable. Unbelievable. Paul casey will withdraw his name from the event and we will go to the par 3 14th. Jim were heading to the 14th and were down to two. Rick new club . Todd new set. Check it out. This ones forged titanium. Real bruiser. Ive also got one with tungsten. This one here, 12 hosel adjustments. 12. Rick but theyre all drivers. Todd yeah, thats all i need, right . Vo a portfolio filled with only Investment Products doesnt make sense either. Todd coming . Vo thats the metlife perspective. Let a Metlife Premier Client Group representative show you how diversifying beyond just investments can help grow and safeguard your assets. [ male announcer ] we know theyre out there. You cant always see them. But its our job to find them. The answers. The solutions. The innovations. All waiting to help us build Something Better. Something more amazing. A safer, cleaner brighter future. At boeing, thats what building Something Better is all about. Jim welcome back to riviera. Were going to a third playoff hole. James hahn and dustin johnson. What a putt by hahn. Got a little help too with the read off casey putt before him. And then rather nonchalant. Johnson knocks it in. As they say goodbye to paul casey who will end up, regardless of who wins it, itll be a tied second for casey. We had a playoff come to this point back in 1992, with the great davis lovefred couples playoff. The charles howellphil mickelson playoff many years down the road after that. Ian bakerfinch is ready to call it at the 14th hole. One of the widest greens on tour here. Ian it certainly is, jame. Its not an easy one. Though the wind has died down a little bit. Club selection will be easier. Dustin johnson parred all four days here at 14. David and the big fellow has 6iron. Ian james hahn bogeyed it in round three with pars the other three rounds. A good solid 6iron for dustin johnson. I would say one more for hahn. David right at the flagstick. Ian beautiful shot there for dustin johnson. Hit a beauty into 18 in regulation unlucky not to hole that putt for the outright win. Remember these guys were paired today. So this is their 21st hole together for the day. Peter janes hahn has also selected a 6iron. Im not sure if theres room for any mishithood here. Ian i agree. Hell have to turn this over and get a jump forward. Really good swing, though, peter. Peter so many of these young kids have great golf swings. Ian he lives on the internet, trying to improve. Trying look for Something Different every day. Good solid 6iron with a little draw. Peter it started to the right its turning over. Ian a little safer, two pretty good shots but advantage dustin johnson. Jim well back back in a moment. Jim some of the first time winners at the Northern Trust open like phil rogers and t. C. Chen and chip beck. On merrick two years ago. John merrick two years ago. Youve got a guy looking for a first ever win in james hahn. His best ever career finish on tour was two years ago a tie for third at pebble beach. Again, in the case of dustin johnson, hes already an eighttime winner on tour. Ian youd have to say underdog vs. , maybe not superstar yet but potential superstar. Dustin johnson eight wins, looking for his ninth. James hahn from a similar line to regulation. David this putt has to be influenced by the ocean to the right. It looks like it wants to turn left. But i suspect not as much as it looks. Ian everything here, peter has a tendency to go down toward the sixth green, the lowest point on the course, toward the ocean. Thats the tendency, doesnt mean every cut breaks that way cup breaks that way but its something to factor in. Hes having a good discussion with his caddy there. Hes got style. I like it. James hahn. We all do. Seen there signing autographs for the kids after his round. Nice and relaxed. Very popular. Is it enough . Does it make it . Yes, it does. James hahn applies the pressure here at 14. Dustin johnson now must make it. Straight in the middle. Almost exactly the same line from a little close for the regulation knew it was going to break to the right toward the sixth as we said. And how about those twoputts. Nick hes a lot better than 197th in the world, isnt he . Ian exactly right nick. So many of them are the youngsters. They swipping the club so well, they see the other youngsters doing well and think they can as well. Some emotion there. Well done. Nick come a long way from a man who knows the difference between Christian Loboutin and manolo blahniks. Ian having a child in a few weeks time. James hahn. Nick he never looked. Kept his eyes down. Nick its hahn, james hahn, the winner here. Peter kostis, lets have a chat with the winner. Peter thank you. Up until now you were known for his gangnam style dance at 16, now youre known as a tour winner. Thank you very much. This is amazing. I have a little girl coming in three weeks. And yeah, this is unbelievable. I never would have thought i would have won this golf tournament. Theres so many great players here. Dustin sergio, jordan, i mean, just to be here competing with these guys is an honor. Peter you never know what happens when you hang in there and you hung in there congratulations. Jim amazing odyssey its been for james hahn. Never lost sight of the dream. He and his wife stephanie as he said, three weeks away from welcoming a little girl into the world. Its a whole new world for him. After holing this putt to take the title. At the Northern Trust open. For sir nick fallow and the whole cbs golf family, we will see you next at augusta and the masters. Congratulations to james hahn who takes the title. Kroft good evening. Im steve kroft. Welcome to 60 minutes presents. Tonight, we remember and celebrate the life and extraordinary career of our friend and colleague, bob simon. He spent 47 years covering the world for cbs news and 60 minutes, and survived dozens of wars and other calamities. He died 11 days ago in a new york city Traffic Accident not far from this studio. The irony would not have been lost on bob. Irony was one of his favorite journalistic devices. He was a brilliant combination of sophistication and street smarts who liked to tell people he was just a jewish kid from the bronx. He didnt tell you that he was also phi beta kappa, and had been a fulbright scholar, or that he came to become televisions quintessential Foreign Correspondent. Simon weve traveled to remote places before, but never on an ice breaker. This is the natural habitat of the polar bear, these ice floes. Theres nothing on this 130 square mile peninsula other than monasteries and monks. Nothing. We landed right in the middle of a party. The guests of honor . Us. What is going on . Whoa, thats quite a welcome simon who are these people . These are the papasena people. They seem to like you. Kroft and bob simon liked being there, wherever there happened to be. He reported from 130 different countries, propelled by natural curiosity and wanderlust. It was his love of adventure and the search for new experiences that drove him to explore exotic and often dangerous places. Simon the problem is no one can control the local village militias. Kroft and he always took us along with him, to earthquakes and tsunamis. This is my house. Simon thats your house . Kroft . Wars and revolutions. Simon the battle of bucharest seems to be almost over, but it is ending not with a whimper, but with a bang. Jeff fager i always thought, i dont even have to tell him what the storys about. If i tell him, theres a story waiting for you, get on a plane, hed be on the plane. Kroft jeff fager worked with bob simon for more than 30 years as a producer, executive producer of the cbs evening news, and later, executive producer of 60 minutes. Fager hed always raise his hand, ready to go. His voice mail said, im not in, and i may be gone for the next several months. laughter he would rather be out covering a story anywhere in the world than be stuck in an office. Kroft its hard to imagine what cbs news would have been like over the last 47 years without bob simon. Simon you dont think that socialism necessarily evolves into. Kroft for decades, his reports were the centerpiece of major broadcasts on world events, from places like the philippines. And haiti. Simon the only law in force is darwins law, it is the survival of the fittest. Kroft . Just to name a few. Stahl he did it better that anybody. Kroft lesley stahl first met bob in jerusalem in the late 1970s. Stahl he was the most dashing Foreign Correspondent there was. He was so handsome. And his stories had such a uniqueness. He was special. He was always a serious, fabulous reporter with a distinctive voice. Simon childhood was cancelled in sarajevo this year. It is a casualty of war. The agreement this time was for a ceasefire. And here it is on the streets of ramallah, a ceasefire. It gives new meaning to the phrase a fragile truce. Kroft bob simons voice was distinctive, not just in pitch and timbre, but in the words he chose and the stories he composed and spoke in that rolling, melodic prose that you could call simonic pentameter. Simon and it keeps getting worse bigger battles, more funerals, flags being turned into shrouds. The only peace, the peace of death. Kroft what do you think made him so great as a correspondent . Stahl well, obviously, t
