Tonight they remember three children struck and killed by a carjacked suv. Good evening, im Natasha Brown. Thanks for joining us. The childrens mother was critically injured is that now fighting for her life. The familiar was selling fruit on a Street Corner when the carjackers crashed into them and those suspect then ran off. They are still on the loose. Eyewitness News Reporter matt rivers is live at Police Headquarters with the latest on the investigation and more on this very emotional night. Matt. Reporter natasha, as the search for those two suspects nears its third day, earlier tonight friends and family of the children who died gathered to remember them near the scene of the crash. Reporter theyre never easy vigils like these. Theyre harder when youre remembering children. Reporter 15yearold keieara williams 10 year old thomas reed and seven year old thomas moore. The three died selling fruit on a corner for their church. Very good kids. They were always close to her. Reporter by her she means Keisha Williams the childrens mom. Last saturday she brought them to the garden all smiling. This saturday, she was fighting for her life in a hospital bed in critical condition. Dedicated, they were hard workers, they were prayerful, they were kind. Reporter williams her three children and another woman were all hit by a car that went out of control at allegheny and germantown avenue. Ts h stolen it at gun point from a realtor moments earlier. They crashed when a tire blew out fleeing the scene as the victims lay dying on the sidewalk. The pair remains at large. Im believing in god that the perpetrators wi brought to justice. Those three children will not come back, theyre dead, so they have that to live with. Reporter in the meantime a heartbroken neighborhood can do little more than mourn and pray. Forever and ever amen. Reporter theres a 110,000 reward for the person who provides credible information that leads to the arrest of the two suspects that remain at large. Now new at 11 oclock tonight, two firefighters were hurt battling this fire in mantua. The extent of their injuries still not known. Eyewitness news at 33rd and mantua just after 7 oclock tonight. You can see a group of firefighters on the rooftop. It was not clear how this fire started. Turning to our weather now, day started off with some rain and clouds but it cleared out just in time for the evening. Eyewitness news in Rittenhouse Square where folks were enjoying dinner alfresco. Low temperatures when you wake up sunday morning generally mostly 70s, could be some 60s in the cooler suburbs. Your sunday again few morning showers not out of the question. We should catch a break mid morning into the afternoon with sunshine and then late in the day at night another chance for showers and storms. Some of those could be strong at night to severe. New information tonight, 46yearold Christopher Smith has been charged with attempted murder and arson in connection with yesterdays fire in south philadelphia. Investigators say he pushed in a window air conditioner and then lit a flame and minutes later he allegedly returned to the 1700 block of sigel street with more accelerant trapping a woman, a man and a child inside. Lieutenant Jonathan Josie was off duty at the time in that area. He ran in to help them escape. Youll remember he was acquitted of Assault Charges after this video surfaced and he fought to win his job back. New details tonight about what police found inside the apartment of the suspect in the deadly Medical Center shooting. Officials executed a search warrant at Richard Plotts upper darby home yesterday and found two mr. Guns. The 49yearold suspect remains sedated and under guard and will be charged with the murder of his caseworker, tear risa hunt, also the attempted murder of his doctor, lee silverman. The doctor was also armed with a gun and shot the suspect. U. S. Marshals meantime, theyve arrested a man in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was found on the side of the road in winslow township, new jersey. This was the scene early friday at new brooklyn erial road and Wilsons Landing road. Police say 52yearold Kevin Ambrose stabbed 41 year old jennifer bonko but the most tiff is not clear. He was taken into custody in atlantic city. Now to the crisis in the middle east. Israelis said today that they are willing to extend a ceasefire with gaza but leaders in gaza have yet to agree. Cbs news correspondent Alphonso Van Marsh has the latest developments from tel aviv. Reporter saturday morning israeli rockets rained down on gaza. Minutes later a ceasefire went into effect. The pause in the violence gave people in gaza a chance to return to whats left of their neighborhoods. They collected any personal items they could find and recovered the dead. Health officials believe more than a thousand palestinians have been killed in the nearly threeweek long conflict. By nightfall, gaza militants resumed firing rockets into israel. In tel aviv a group of israeli antiwar protesters called for an end to the violence and remembered the dead on both sides. Unless we find a way to talk to each other, this wont end. Reporter authorities are keeping the antiwar protesters a good safe distance away from those supporting the military campaign. Thats them about 300 feet away waving israeli flags. One government supporter explained why he despises the antiwar protesters. They dont care about us, our people. They dont care about our soldiers. Reporter u. S. Secretary of state john kerry met with european leaders in paris to see if a peace deal could be found but left paris without a long Term Solution in place. The state Department Says the staff left tripoli and traveled to neighboring tunisia. Embassy operations in tripoli will be suspended until the security improves. Officials in mali say they found the second black box of the air algerie flight that crashed this week. All 118 people on board were killed. Investigators hope the flight recorders will help them determine exactly what happened to this plain. There was bad weather at the time of the crash. The jet was en route to algeria. More remains of victims of Malaysia Airlines flight 17 arrived in the netherlands today this as the parents of one of the passengers traveled to the crash site in ukraine. Cbs news correspondent Wendy Gillette has the story. Reporter the parents of a woman who died when Malaysia Airlines flight 17 was shot down over ukraine visited the crash site to honor their daughter. We have promised our daughter we will come here. Reporter but the couple its journey was long and difficult from Perth Australia through territory controlled by prorussian separatists. She was for peace. She is for peace and she will be forever for peace. Reporter two military cargo planes landed saturday in the netherlands with the last of 227 coffins containing victims. Troops carried each of the 38 coffins to waiting hearses in a solemn ceremony. At the crash site nearby fighting and security concerns have prevented a thorough canvassing of the area. Investigators who have been allowed access are still making discoveries. Personal belongings, passports, i. D. Cards, credit cards, things like that. A small airplane with engine trouble strikes a pickup truck during an Emergency Landing on a reno, nevada, highway. Two people were aboard the plane and two people were inside the truck when this collision happened. Everyone did escape with only minor injuries. And caught on camera, a very close call for a mom taking her baby for a stroll in san francisco. Take a look at this video. You see mom here walking with the baby stroller when all of a sudden theyre nearly run over by an out of control suv. Police say the suv had collided with another vehicle and the impact of that collision sent it into a handrail missing the stroller and that little baby by mere inches. A wildfire in Northern California, its continuing to grow and its prompting mandatory evacuations. The sand fire as its called has burned more than 1300 acres in the Sierra Nevada foot hills. At least five homes have been destroyed. Firefighters have it about 20 percent contained. The cause remains under investigation but the drought continues to fuel those flames. And take a look at what firefighters rescued from that fast moving fire. This is abe, a 200pound tortoise that lived at a Northern California resort. Abes owners were forced to leave the 20 year old reptile behind as they evacuated the grounds. Much of the resort was destroyed but once the flames did die down firefighters were able to get back in to save the tortoise. New video here of a dust storm as it overcomes the phoenix area. The storm which is called a haboob knocked out power to thousands of customers. A temporary ground stop for all inwomenning flights at Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport have been lifted now. This wall of dust was 3,000 feet tall and 30 miles wide. That. Video, its unbelievable to see. Yeah. It really is. Its not just heat out there, you get dust storms and monsoons. Thats a whole another thing. Nothing here. Could get some rain tomorrow. Could get some rain and storms tomorrow. Some could be severe. In the meantime looking quiet across the Delaware Valley right now. Heres live look from our roof camera. Just a few clouds roll through over the the next few hours so if you have plans to head out next two, three hours or so maybe do some traveling overnight looking pretty good. Different story across western pennsylvania. You can see clusters and showers and thunderstorms moving to the south and east so a lost this stays south and one of the but still if these hold together cant rule out some showers maybe a thunderstorm very early sunday morning. You may wake up to a rumble of thunder or some wet weather. I think the afternoon we catch a little break, could be a scattered shower or storm and then another cluster should come through later on during the day and at night giving us another chance for sh some showers and storms. Any time some of these storms could be strong to severe during the day and at night on sunday so just keep that in mind. Not an all day washout but if you are outside have your eyes in sky. 79 degrees at the airport, everybody pretty much in the low 70s. Were humid, though, that humid air mass continues to build in and we look at the dewpoint temperature. That sells us how much humidity is in the air. Right now 69 degrees, tomorrow similar numbers upper 60s to around 70 so what does that mean to you . Heres what it will feel like. It will have that oppressive feel to the air mass of the hot and humid conditions sunday which help fuel showers and storms. Now much of the midatlantic is under the Severe Threat tomorrow. All the areas shaded in yell low. The area in orange across west virginia, ohio, thats the best bet to see some strong to severe thunderstorms so even here especially late in the day and at night the potential for some strong damaging wind gusts, heavy rain and potential for some hail. The reason why, as the warm front moves through that purges in more humidity and heat. We have a couple disturbances ride along in the jet stream. That helps trigger showers and storms. Monday still with the cold front moving through we cant rule out some showers maybe even a thunderstorm and finally monday evening, monday late we clear things out. Tuesday very nice, refreshing air mass builds back in. Temperatures below average near 80 degrees. Lets time it out. Sun morning could be showers around, maybe a thunderstorm. Catch that break a little in the afternoon, could see some sunshine which could help destabilize atmosphere again. We get another cluster of those showers and storms coming in late in the evening and at night. Monday morning still a threat for a few showers. Threat continues into the afternoon and then finally monday neither looking much better an nice finish to the month of youll. Ill show that you in the sevenday forecast. But tonight partly cloudy skies, low around 72 degrees, it will be on the muggy side. Heres your forecast for sunday. Morning showers possible, maybe that brief break in the action, mid late morning into the afternoon and then later on dmore Storm Chances, its hot, uner 80s to maybe 90 degrees depending on how much sunshine. At the shore again theres going to be Storm Chances there, partly sunny skies, 84 degrees for the high temperature. Ocean water 72. Going to be breezy, southwest winds kick up to about 20 Miles Per Hour. So upper 80s to near 90s sunday. Mid 80s monday, both days chance of showers and storms.
