In philadelphia this is cbs3 Eyewitness News. Right now at 11 00, a warning for women targeted in two separate incidents. Then this man may have known he was too drunk to drive, but his choice of designated driver will leave you stun. But first a matter of inches. A stray bullet pierces the wall of a house and comes dangerously close to a toddlers crib. Good evening, im jessica dean. Chris may is off tonight. Tonight we see just how close and just how lucky that child was. Eyewitness News Reporter jan carrabeo in darby borough as Police Search for two shooters. Jan. Jessica, darby police are still searching for the suspects they believe to be responsible for this shooting. They say the suspects are two men in their late teens to early 20s. Meanwhile, police have been going door door in this area hasnting out these flyers in it saying how concerned they are about the shooting. But also looking for eyewitnesses. They need leads. They need tips and now theyre pleading for the publics help. Much too close for comfort here in darby borough. A bullet pieces window on the five hadnt doctored block of walnut street makes its way through an apartment wall and march roll miss as three year old asleep in his crib. Recently, its been like the okay coral. Its horrible around who are. Last night about 11 00 oclock i heard six gunshots. Reporter at least one of those shots hit here at the boat house apartments. I would have woke up to one of my kids not breathing. You understand what im saying. Reporter but many people could have been caught in the crossfire. Police say the shots were fired from a block away. People fire weapons and dont understand where that round is going to go after they fire it. If the child stands up the child is hit or if the bullets 10inches lower the child is hit. Reporter this close call has community now worried about whats neck. I never experienced anything like that. Its really shocking. Its scary. Youre not safe in your bed at night. Got to be a better way we can work thing out besides using a gun. Reporter it really is startling. Just how close this bullet came to hitting the child in this crib. The bullet got lodged in a dee humidifier in the childs room. Now police are still investigating this shooting theyre also investigating a homicide that happened just about a week ago in this same area. Theyre looking to see if the two are connected. Breaking right now at 11 00 former nbi director louis freeh is in the hospital tonight airlift to do a hospital in New Hampshire with serious injuries after car crash in vermont. A 19 year old told police she was indecently assaulted while walking to the bus stop in the 100 block of west dauphin street. Now that happened last thursday afternoon. Then yesterday about a mile away 26 year old woman reported a man tried to force her into an alley north whats streets and tried to get her to have sex with him. He did run away when she started screaming. Police do not believe the same man is responsible but they do say women need to take extra precautions. New tonight two people were rushed to the hospital after a fire at a row home in philadelphias Spring Garden neighborhood. Eyewitness news at 12th and mount vernon as firefighters tried to fight the smoke pour out of the second floor l the two people injured were taken to Hahnemann University hospital. No word tonight on their conditions and the cause of that fire is now under investigation. It is an incredible story of survival. Two people survived this crash of a mosquito spraying chopper in south jersey. That chopper went down just feet from a school and homes in cape may courthouse. Reporter broken up helicopter remains right where it crashed landed investigates will try to piece together what led to the hard landing monday. The the noise got louder and louder and louder. Something has got to be wrong because its getting real loud. Reporter the helicopter crashed a few yards away from donalds home. Sounded like somebody was cutting brush with a big brush cutter but it was really scary the noise. Such a loud noise. Reporter pilot and passenger on board at the time were doing weekly mosquito observations in the salt marsh prior to the crash. They had taken off and landed several times with no problems but when they started to head back to the base, the pilot identified as 54 year old don company neck knee heard a bank and began losing altitude. He aimed for the sports field. I took up and saw the helicopter take a turn and saw the blade hit the top of tree and saw stuff flying through the air. Several people ran to the field to see if everyone on board was okay. The pilot was standing above his passenger and just sort of standing there but the passenger was on the ground. He was trying get up and we just made him lay down. Just stay down till we can get the emergency and my office we called 911 right away. Reporter passenger was mosquito inspector ryan richie. Officials say it could have been a lot worse especially considering where the helicopter landed just before 11 00 monday morning. You can see this is soccer field. Its not unusual for this to be occupied by some of our student athletes. Reporter both men were rushed to an area hospital. Both of them are going to be just fine. An officer noticed his car swerving saturday afternoon and was shocked to see the man holding a beer with his feet on the pedals and the boy on his lap doing his best to steer. There was another child riding unrestrain in the back seat. The suspect police say was babysitting when all this happ happen. I would rather have seen the kid take the car and driveway i was than have the 5884 old uncle pushing the gas and hitting the brac while the eight years old was steering the wheel. The opener of the car was so drunk he couldnt get out of the car without assistance. He has been charged with dui and other offenses. He remains in jail unable to post bail. Mother is pleading for the hitandrun driver to come. Kevin was hit last night along sicklerville road in gloucester township. The 23 year old was walking home from his job at a pizza shop. He suffered a punctured lung and has multiple broken bones. He could be hospitalized for months. His mother says he remembers being hit. He actually said that he was crossing the road and he felt as if the car was trying to speeding up to hit him. Trent called the pizza shop for help after getting hit by the car. They then called nip 11 much police have no surveillance video. No witnesses and no description of the vehicle making the publics help that much more important. Meanwhile, Philadelphia Police have charg charged brianr with murder and related offens offenses. He is the frankford homeowner who told police he shot and killed a man he thought was trying to break into his pick up. That shooting happened late thursday night the 4500 block of torresdale avenue. Bauer claims he shot that man in selfdefense. Today the family of Michael Brown said goodbye but vowed to keep his fight forgoes toy alive. Seven. Browns family sat in the front row at todays funeral. More than 4,000 people were in attendance. Earlier today inspectors fanned out across napa valley placing red tags on buildings too dangerous to enter. The magnitude 6. 0 quake followed by 70 small after shocks. Nap at a valley suffered an estimated 1 billion in property damage. And nap at a valley is the heart of californias 13th billion dollars wine industry. Wine makers there were supposed to start harvesting their grapes this week. Some have to put those plans on hold while they mop up this mess left by the quake much its a sight that will make wine lover cry. Some parts of wine country flooded in red wine. This cell phone video crack in a storage tank causing hundreds of gallons of wine to spill out. It puts a lump in your throat, you know, that theres that much going down the drain and not down yours. Report tom skinner showed the damage in his storage room. You can see here where the barrels are broken open. Reporter about 25 barrels of wine physical off the racks. Many of them full of wine that went down these drains. To give you some perspective, each barrel can fill up to 300 bottles. I know that we lost isnt barbera and some vase see, im not sure, i dont want to go down there. I want to stay out of because some of the barrels are still a little bit on the teetering side. Reporter not far away monacello vineyards also sustained some damage. Their sign broken. You can see some of the racks holding the barrel are leaning against other racks. At a Storage Facility near downtown about 50 barrels of wine fell to the ground a complete loss. At silver oaks hundreds of bottles of wine shattered. These reserve wines were among the most prized at the silver okay winery meant only for vips and special tastings. David duncan president of silver oaks says each bott physical in this room is priceless. Theyre very special unique reference wines and we dont sell them. Theyre not available, and so to lose them theyre gone forever. At this winery three barrels of wine were also damaged containing nearly 100,000 of premier vintage. The American Academy of pediatrics is pushing for a later start to the school day for middle school and High School Students. It says only 13 of teens get the optimal amount of sleep thats between about 8. 5 and 9. 5 hours. The panel of researchers suggests middle and High School Students start their day no earlier than 8 30 a. M. Getting less sleep is associated with poor grades, with lower performance on standardized tests. Across the board, we see whole host of very negative consequences. It is estimated only 15 of high schools start at 8 30 or later. 40 start earlier than 8am.
