Reporter rahel, good afternoon there is all happening in just the past hour, in fact, the former representative just left the federal courthouse, but chaka fattah of course after being sentenced to ten years in federal prison, for 18 different count of public corruption, money laundering, and bribery charges. I want to thank my team, my lawyers, who have done an extraordinary job, we have received a sentence, we respect the courts decision. We wont have much after comment on that. But dow want to thank all of the witnesses who stepped forward and talked today and i want to thank over 200 people who wrote letters to the court on my behalf, and this is a circumstance in which now has accords dollars the dear termination there is phase of the process has come to a conclusion, and again i want to thank my legal team and i want to thank the support of my family and staff and friends through this very tough time. The judge says what happened in the courtroom will be heard throughout the country, are you being made an example, do you believe . Now, chaka fattah leaving court this afternoon with his attorneys, not saying much after that brief statement. The judge spending the morning hearing from different seven different character witnesses how the former congressman has helped them in their community, then chaka fattahs time to speak. Fattah said he personally regrets the decisions hes made, the former congressman convicted of 18 federal corruption counts, including one count of racketeering, five counts of male afraid and bribery charges. Federal guidelines allow the judge to sentence fattah between 17 to 22 years in federal prison, this morning, the judge told the former congressman his actions have consequences, and then sentenced him to ten years behind bars. Chaka fattahs also an individual, who has done significant things on behalf of the city of philadelphia for a number of years. But, unfortunately, seven years of that period he lost his way and as a result of losing his way he was sentence today a significant period of time in prison by the judge. And the judge appropriately took into consideration the significance of his criminal conduct, but also took into consideration all the work that hes done behalf of the citizens of philadelphia. Now, at this time right now the Funeral Services just getting underway inside boardwalk hall. Now, we want to go ahead and show this scene earlier this morning, as hundreds of troopers from across the area, the delaware vale, certainly, included, officers from philadelphia, south jersey, north jersey, many of those officers filing past the troopers casket. Now, trooper williams was killed in the line every duty last week. He leaves behind a wife of only two months. Williams of Atlantic County was a member of the 156 police class, graduating just this past january. He was assigned to the port norris station. Now, he was killed in that violent wreck last monday on route 55 in millville. Investigators say a car was driving irradically, coming at trooper williams the wrong way. It was trooper williams, according to investigators, who was on that roadway, in the first place, looking for that irradic driver. Now the superintendent of the new Jersey State Police pause to speak with us. Frankie williams on the job just 11 months, a model trooper. Was a model recruit. He always wanted to be a trooper and to see somebody cut down really in the most productive, wonderful time of their life after being married just two months, is horrible.
