Commissioner richard ross says it is amazing this officer even survived, he was in his cruiser being shot at point blank range, still manage today react, fire back, call for help, and also, hit that suspect. They say that this took place about 11 40 thursday night at the corner every south 60 and spieth streets. Officer jesse heartnet in his cruiser approaching that intersection when the shooter began walking toward him with a 9millimeter gun we are told and continued to shoot right into the cruiser window in all firing some 13 shots hitting heartnet three times in his left arm. Officer heartnet did return fire. The suspect, 30 year old man, did try running away, but heartnet hit him at least three times, that suspect caught by officers around the corner near 60th and delancey street. The weapon was also recovered, there as well.
