On the cbs3 health watch, new guidelines on children and limiting their time in front of tv, phone, computer screens. Health reporter
Stephanie Stahl explains the new recommendations. Reading rainbow. Sarah osborne limits how much time her daughters spends in front of screens, especially, her 19 month old. Little people appropriate tv for 15 minute, and they have just a few different apps, because they dont need everything else. For more than 15 years, the
American Academy of pediatrics has said, children under the age of two should use no media at all. Now, the group is out with new recommendations that say parent of children 18 to 24 months, who want to introduce digital media, should be sure to choose high quality educational programming. What you really want to make sure youre doing coviewing it with them, so youre narrating whats going on. Re teaching what theyre learning, and if they are doing any sort of apps, coplaying. The new guidelines recommend children under 18 months should avoid all screen time, except video chatting. Children ages twofive should be limit today one hour per day of media. And children six and older should have consistent time limits on how much time they get. So want to make sure entertainment screen time is not just placing physical activity, it is not displacing family meals, the kids are still getting adequate amount of sleep. Thats why sarah row strict her girls time in front of screens. I would also rather have them doing other things, like being outside, playing their kids, being creative. The academy of pediatrics says families should develop a media plan with specific rules for kids with their screen time. Im

Thats right, big difference already. You can feel those temperature drops, almost 20 degrees colder than what we were dealing with the past few mornings, we will bring temperatures actually below average this afternoon. And the problem is this morning, dealing with this rain, and some wind, so little nasty outside. Couple of hours hereof some steady rain. Check it out on storm scan3, really confined over eastern pennsylvania, new jersey, and northern delaware. Not heavy rain, but enough to cause some problems out there on the roads, ponding on the roads, so give it until about 7 00, 8 00 or so in these steady rain showers should start to break up little bit. Hopefully see little sun this afternoon wind will kick up t just reinforces colder air, that we will be dealing with, for the next 24 hours. Lets time out the rain. Through 8 00, steady light rain, it will be windy between 8 00 and noon, still couple of scattered showers possible at times. Windy, and then this afternoon, partial clearing, stays windy, gusts could get to up around 40

Could nicotine protect your brain and reduce the risk of altzheimers . Some very preliminary
Research Says yes. But, this isnt about smoking. Health reporter
Stephanie Stahl explains. For years, weve heard about the dangers every smoking, a primary ingredient in cigarette, being nicotine. Nicotine is a stimulant by itself. It doesnt have many negative effect. This researcher has been analyzing nicotine for 25 years, recently she discovered through lab tests on the brains of mice, that nicotine can delay aging in the brain and the onset of altzheimers and parkinsons disease. I dont think that prevention is possible, but even if you could delay the onset by five or ten years, that would be a great benefit for society. But it is not the nicotine that comes from smoking cigarette. Nicotine is a drug. It is not a cigarette. Smoking nicotine in the form after cigarette exposes the person to harmful tox inch. There are a lot of tox nuns tobacco smoke, and in cigarettes, that can cause cancer or toxins and so for the. So what about nicotine thats in patches sold over the counter . I think we need to do more studies, so the next step would be to take that now into older mice to see if that prevents the aging process, if it has neuro protective effect, if it improves cognitive function in these animals. While that research continues, doctors say the best way to protect your brain and prevent cognitive decline is basically the same thing do you for your heart, eat healthy diet, exercise, keep your brain active. If you would like to come it is 10dollar donation to get in, and get there early because there is a silent auction, and 5050 ravel, and all of the money of course benefits this officers family. All right, justin, back to reality now. After that string of 80 degrees days, feeling little more like it is supposed to be feeling. Exact limit today actually little below averagement tomorrow will be feel right on target here for late october, so second half of the weekend little better, the problem is this morning, still dealing with some rain, slow moving cold front, taking its time to get on out of here, you have steady light rain breaking out from the poconos, all the way down to central delaware right now, points eastward, so again, not heavy rainfall, but enough to slow thing down on the road, a lot of road spray to deal with. Give it few more hours through about midmorning, then most of the steady rain should begin to taper off, still cant rule out few showers late in the morning, and then by the afternoon, should start to break the clouds up little bit. Hopefully seeing some sunshine, but the sun really wont do much with a high temperatures today. Average high this time of year 64 degrees. We werent even close to that for the past several days, just smashing new records, highs and the low into mid 80s, yesterday we did make it to 8 degrees. Today different story. We struggle to get back into the up ears. So actually below average for this time of year. Here we are, 50 allentown, 52 wilmington, so everybody pretty much similar right now with the clouds, the breeze, and the rain around, these temperatures wont budget whole lot. It is even colder to the northwest, 44 pittsburgh, 42 buffalo, northwest wind coming in, stowe will transport that cooler air in for the next 12 hours or so. So will get pretty chilly tonight. Reason is the strong cold front that came on through, late last night, that bridges back the core of the coldest air, moving in tonight. So talking below average temperatures, late tonight, into tomorrow, but nice rebound coming in for us for sunday afternoon. Winds there is will be an issue, wind will be gusting to 35, maybe even 40
Miles Per Hour into the mid afternoon hours today. Thats going to make it feel even cooler. Even though we have temperatures in the 50s, we will have some windchills today possibly as cool as the mid 40s, during the afternoon. And this wind continues tonight. West winds, 11 00, still gust to go near 30
Miles Per Hour at times. Winds backs off little bit tomorrow. Still breezy. But not as strong, those winds may get to up 25
Miles Per Hour. The reason is a low pressure system which is pretty far to the north and east of us, over maine right now, but really intensifying, so a loft winds energy with it, which is still over the delaware valley. Tomorrow
High Pressure starts to build in to the afternoon. That will help relax the wind little bit. But overall, our pattern still remains breezy, as we head into next week, temperatures kind of hang out where they should be this time of year. Today though, mid 50s, maybe upper 50s, at best, look at tonight, into the 40s for a lot of locations, make some 30s in the coolest spots, if the wind can die down just enough. But nice rebounds tomorrow. Low to potentially mid 60s for the afternoon high. Big drop in the jet stream, allowing colds air to settle on in. That starts to lift out tomorrow. So little milder. But overall our pattern shows where it should be for this time of year. So no big warmth coming up any time soon. Probably not going to see any more 08 degrees days the rest of this year. Cant rule out another 70 degrees day or so, thats possible, today though 57, windy, cooler, after the morning rain, tonight partly cloudy, breezy, chilly, low temperature for the city around 44. Maybe some upper 30s, in the colder suburbs. Then tomorrow back to the 64 degrees. Nice finish to the weekend. Mostly sunny. Still breezy at times. Mid six offs on monday. We cool it down again for tuesday, wednesday, back to the 50s, and then by the end of next week, back to the low 60s, really next best chance for a shower after today is going to be next friday. So we are moving back to the dry pattern, jan, back to you. Not too bad. Thanks, justin. The
