KYW Eyewitness News At 5 November 23, 2016

Was injured in, this but it did add significant delays to an already very busy, travel day. This added congestion and confusion, stems from a person struck and killed on a Regional Rail line in delaware. All trains, including amtrak both northbound and southbound are dealing with significant delays because of the investigation. All railways between wilmington and newark, delaware are currently on stand still and impacting travel up and down the line. Some passengers have been attempting to switch trains to try to maneuver shorter wait times but over all the atmosphere is simply that of a collective headache. Even so everyone we spoke with has taken the attitude that reflects the holiday no the matter how long it the takes most passengers are in route to see family and for that they remain thankful. Im doing best i can to stay happy, it is thanksgiving and to be thankful, yeah. Reporter well, it is a good attitude, as we mentioned we have learned that services between wilmington and newark has been restored but they are just operated on one track, of the delays, they are still expect. Reporting live from 30th street stational is a contract hoff, for cbs3 Eyewitness News. Many drivers are on their way to their thanksgiving destinations tonight. Chopper three is live over the vine street express waste in philadelphia where it the meets the schuylkill expressway, brake lights are on your right, headlights on the left, it is jammed, very busy road, busy skies too our Justin Drabick is live at Philadelphia International airport with the check on the travel status there, justin. Reporter i have some good news. Things are looking good here at Philadelphia International airport. Pretty much all day long. Look at that behind me, security lines, nobody in it. Im taking credit for this one. It is all about the weather, keeping storm system out of here. So far, so good. That is what we are dealing with, and i think a lot of folks are happy because they are heading out of town to check out friend, family and enjoying a nice holiday. No major delays, departures and arrivals. Different story as you saw on the roads, getting to the airport that will be the problem, check it out, here are your speeds, really down, less than 25 miles an hour on area roads. Schuylkill is a mess in both directions now down less than 10 Miles Per Hour around route one, both northbound and southbound on the blue route it will be slow, new jersey turnpike, 295 also on the slow side. Just south of the city 95 southward heading toward the blue route we are slow, less than 25 miles an hour. Certainly a crawl. In the skies, yes, it will be a busy weekend. 3. 7 million americans are expect to fly over the Holiday Weekend. If you are heading out of the town and in the skies you might want to pack some patients. Steady flow of passengers are passing through Philadelphia International on one of the busiest travel days of the the year. Fog and Stormy Weather in other parts of the country caused delays earlier today, but for the most part it has been smooth sailing. Madeline is flying to palm springs and she says it wasnt so bad. There were not a lot of lines, not as many people as i thought though. Reporter no matter whiz terminal you picked lines were long earlier today but by this afternoon it eased up a bit. Most of the passengers we have talk to say biggest backup they have experienced was just getting to the airport. I thought it might be crowded, and delays, because it is thanksgiving so i got here kind of early. Reporter what with traveling getting here. It was awful. We arrived three hours early in preparation for the long lines, but that are not here. Reporter fortythree and a half million americans expected to travel more than 50 miles, this Holiday Weekend, so rough outing on the road. It will be rough here in the skies. Terminal c here again, lines looking g it comes in waves. So far, so good, smooth sailing. I mentioned weather, pretty dry now but that will change tomorrow. We will bring some is rain in here and for that forecast on thanksgiving day lets send it back to the studio with katie. Thanks, justin. It looks quiet at the airport if you roads are looking messy. I can see streets in center city not looking too hot venturing out tonight. Weather has been great for traveling today though, cool, dry, not too windy, and that is the case this evening as well. The heres a quick look at how it is feeling outside, little chilly, 47 degrees in philadelphia. Fortyone in allentown. Fortyfive in trenton. I want to draw your attention to mount pocono where it is currently sitting at freezing mark and as we switch over to storm scan three look at why that may be concerning here this evening. We have got our system moving this way but out ahead of the main push there is a little warm front that is dragging itself through central pennsylvania. It doesnt have a lot of moisture witt but notice these showers are Holding Together even down into portions of virginia and maryland. If those showers do get in overnight, the poconos, northern Lehigh Valley where temperatures are at or below freezing you could be dealing with slick spots. Main push of the showers back over indiana right now, that is what will come through for us tomorrow though, it should weaken by that point. A stray shower here or there overnight, then as we head into the daze tomorrow, that is when we will start toe showers, becoming a bit more numerous. Not a total wash out, not a steady driving rain all day but scattered showers around through your thanksgiving dinner time, and again, tonight in the poconos if you are in the northern, Lehigh Valley, there will be a chance that some of that rain freezing on contact, a few slick spots so take it the easy overnight and into tomorrow morning in the far northern parts of the region. Coming up we will talk more burr thanksgiving Holiday Outlook drug is including the rest of the weekend but for now we will send it back in the studio. Thanks very much. If you wait until last mini know people try to put off travel until thanksgiving day because roads tend to be quiet to get out, if you eat later, tomorrow though, there could be some issues just a few, couple of showers here and there, not the worst day we have ever had. Certainly not worstt day we thanksgiving we have ever had but best chance for rain in the seven day forecast, really comes tomorrow and then again into next week, tuesday or wednesday. Heres a look outside to one of our live Neighborhood Network sites. The reason i picked this again i showed you it past two nights and we had beautiful sunset will colors here. It was a cold morning today. Wanted to recap this. We did hit freezing this morning, average low for todays date 37. This is first time reaching freezing, since april 10th, and you may have felt it out there i went outside and said yep, im pretty sure we made it. Definitely got down to freezing this morning. Problem is overnight tonight even though cloud will move in and we will keep up here in the philadelphia area well above freezing, up in the poconos and Lehigh Valley, temperatures, just heading toward freezing overnight. While the main push of the showers, is still way back over the midwest, this little warm front trying to activate through portions of central, pennsylvania and into maryland. It is starting to fizzle a little bit but if any showers get the in to our far northern regions overnight there will be threat for light freezing rain especially on elevated surfaces like bridges, overpasses so do watch out tomorrow morning for a few isolated slick spots.
