It is quiet here right now but, registration for the 30th annual aids run portion of this event, began, in just about 30 minutes, as you can see the set up here has already begun and then the walk portion Registration Opens up at 7 30. Come on in here, rob. This is his 29th year that you have done this on the third sunday in october. Yep judge how cost it feel. It is incredible to be back here again this year. You know, we continue to walk, to raise funds for our friend, family, neighbors living with hir disease and to raise awareness about their ongoing epidemic. Reporter so lets talk about this. It is hard for people to really understand how far it has come in the fight against hiv and aid. Thirty years ago what was it like verse today. Thirty years ago, you know, we were really watching our friend, die, and our goal, it was to help people die with dignity. Today our goal, it is to help people live with dignity. So people can live a long, healthy life with hiv, if they get into treatment. Unfortunate thely in this country only 30 percent of People Living with hiv are in treatment to the point where their virus is undetectable. Reporter wow, wow, that is the point of the aids run, walk philly and lets talk about that. Because you guys have an evolving mission, we have two major points at this, since weve involve, what are those, the Major Mission now. Well, beginning in 2017, we will be offering Emergency Assistance for People Living with hiv. Things like did you know that for a lot of people dont have have a state id and without a state id you cannot access any services. So for 50 we can get somebody a state id, and get them so they can access shelter care, medical care, and all of the services that somebody needs to live a long, healthy life with hiv. Reporter and they are not expensive but you have to make people have access to that as well. We may at times help people with the co pay, or we just, helped a woman returning to work, she was on disability and shes now returning to work, but unfortunately because of the transition in her finances, she actually fell behind on her Health Insurance premiums. Reporter wow. She was in danger of losing her insurance because of that. So were able to help her. Shes able to now, going to be able to get back to work, off disability, and, you know, shes doing great. But she had a little struggle there. Reporter for money raise today which is in the the thousands i saw a lot of leaders, in that fund raising effort, all this money will be going now trekly to education, as well as to the individuals who need help, who are struggling with and dealing with hiv and aids. That is right, because we have to deal were not just the medical issue. Yes good you cannot treat somebody medically if they dont have a roof over their head or if they dont have have insurance, or if they dont have an id. Reporter yes, yes, yes Little Things like.
