Gunfire erupted late last night in north philadelphia. Eyewitness News Reporter anita oh is live at Police Headquarters this morning. Anita, what is the very latest reporter jan, that man has not been identified but he is now at Temple University hospital after he reportedly, pulled a gun on police and those officers shot him once in the lower back and one time in the leg. They unfolded in the 2500 block of north alder street off germantown avenue where bike sergeant and two bike officers happened to be patrolling when they say they saw a man walking with a gun in his hand. When those officers ordered man to drop a gun he reportedly started running and after a chase through an alley way man allegedly turn back, pointed his weapon at the sergeant. Philadelphia police are investigating whether that man had been with a large, rowdy crowd nearby in West Cumberland street that they were trying to disperse. At the time, it was a man with the gun and maybe one or two other people and larger crowd im not entirely shore but that male did point a gun at the mow looks officer and also did discharge his weapon. Now that man is currently in Critical Condition at Temple University hospital, and police say that those officers, immediately rendered first aid to the man after, they shot him. That happened at 11 30 last night in runnemede. Police say two cars were heading north when they crashed. One person was kill. Two others were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and now crews closed all of those lanes after the wreck, they are now all opened again. Cause of the crash is under investigation. In other news this morning in several major cities all across the country thousands took part in solidarity marches calling for confederate monuments to be torn down. Last saturday a woman died when self proclaim white supremacist plowed in the crowd of counter protesters in virginia. One of the largest protests yesterday was in boston and Kennett Craig was there. Reporter from dallas, to houston. Wow. Reporter and in memphis, hundreds of people rallied, calling for confederate monuments to be removed. We are here to protect the children, in fact, they are being taken down by these price supremacist. Now, following the rally, and violence in charlottesville, Duke University has removed the Robert E Lee Statue from the duke chapel entrance. It was vandalized wednesday night. Officials say they they based their decision on the safety of the community, Community Members and express university s values. Other communities are taking down or at least considering taking down confederate monuments. Back here at home now kensington residents also spoke out against recent violence. In an inter faith rally with that i brought out 100 friends and neighbors they marched along emerald and frankford street. They shouted stop the violence this morning Philadelphia Police are searching for vandals who targeted the frank rizzo memorial. In south philadelphia. The vandals threw white paint on the mural early yesterday morning. It is at ninth and monday trees. They also spray painted quo kill, killer cops and then rest in peace david that appears to be a reference to david jones, black hand fatal ly shot by a Philadelphia Police officer back in june. One arrest has been made for yesterdays vandalism. Philadelphians are split on whether the rizzo memorial should stay or go. Rizzo represents racism to a lot have people in philadelphia. I dont want to see anything get vandalized but i understand people have strong opinions. You say you dont like it, that is fine . This is ridiculous. We knew the man personally and, we do not feel he was racist. Last week the frank rizzo statue in center city was vandalized several times. During the civil rights movement, one of the most notable voices was dick gregory, comedian and civil rights activist died late last night in washington d. C. He suffered a severe bacterial infection n1960s gregory boning racial barriers by using his sense of humor to spread message of social justice.
