Philadelphia Fire Fighters are mourning one of their own this morning. A a fire fighter who died in the line of duty in north philadelphia fire officials identified the fireman as gabriel lee of Ladder Company number 12. He was found unconscious at engine 50 fire station in the 1300 block of cam bree street and then rush to the hospital. Officials say lee responded to a fire early yesterday morning and then return to the firehouse to work the night shift. He was taken to Temple University hospital. They escorted him to the medical examiners office. Fire fighters from another station were also on hand to solute the fallen fire fighter as his body was brought out of the hospital. The cause of the fire fighter lees death is under investigation. And we are now just a day away from the start of the dnc at the Wells Fargo Center and as you can imagine, security is tight. Cherri gregg from kyw news radio is live there this morning, taking us through road closures, good morning, cherri there are quite a few road closures to talk about. That is right, rahel, good morning. The road closure began here at broad and packer street. You can look behind me and see that Police Officers are already here, there is orange cones, blocking off the area and then a Second Police carries coming here, to help this one because we have seen, quite a few of confused drivers. This morning, as they worked to navigate south philadelphia , and come here to find a closed off road. Take a look at the video we have, the confusion, began, yesterday afternoon when the road closures for the dnc went into effect, both southbound lanes of broad street from packer to the navy yard are officially shut off to traffic sections of paterson from seventh to fdr park are also closed, as are sections of terminal avenue and south 11th street. There are other areas, around the Wells Fargo Center where access is restricted to authorized vehicles. We will be controlled by the Philadelphia Police department now, the i95 northbound lanes , broad street exit is closed and will remain closed, the southbound exit will be opened up at some point for access to the navy yard. You can expect higher volumes on other freeways like 76, 676 and route 291. All of this, of course, to make room for the 50,000 folks attending the dnc, luckily this is nothing new for south Philadelphia Residents who are used to sharing their neighborhood streets. Eagles game, phillies games , concerts, the broad street run, so, we have lived through that and we will live through this. We are used to it. You learn to adjust like you have to. They called to an end to the super delegate system. Inside the Convention Center the rules committee defeat aid proposal to end super delegates. Super delegate is a party or elect official to free to cast a vote for any candidate at the convention regardless of whom the voters offer of of their state prefer and they say it is undemocratic. Burned body turned up, in santa claire, and now detectives are trying to determine how the person died. The flames, fueled by extreme heat are, threatening at least 1,000 homes, just north of los angeles. The fire erupted on friday and has already scorched 31 square miles and only ten percent contained. And the extreme heat is not just a problem in philadelphia, it is making most of the country bake. That will head east ward with the cold front. It looks like tomorrow we will bring back chances for scattered showers and storms. Until then we will enjoy some sunshine. Now if you are at the shore you may have noticed those beaches, you were the at have been colder then normal as far as water temperature. That is the win. Past couple days we will get southwest wind parallel to the shore because of the, force and the way the earth spins everything gets deflect to the right. We have wind blowing from south to north, the top warm surface water gets pushed out to sea and then replaced by cold water beneath. We have some locations off the new jersey shore with ocean water temperature in the mid 60s. That is cold water upwelling. Then we have the opposite when you get northeast wind it brings in warmer water. So usually when we have hot, humid conditions we will get southerly wind. That means colder water at new jersey shore but still feels good when you talk about 90 degree air temperatures. We are dry this have afternoon High Pressure protecting us. Here comes the warm front bringing more humidity. Watch out for scattered showers and storms tomorrow afternoon as the cold front approaches. The once it passes on tuesday morning, it is not going to bring us any cold air. We will still keep things in the 90s here but these humidity levels come down a bit but today heat index right where they should be as far as air temperatures go, upper 80 s to mid 90s. Lack of humidity. Look at tomorrow, we have seen heat index over 100 degrees. Could feel as high as 106 around philadelphia, maybe up to 108, in some spots, where it is really humid. That is tomorrow afternoon. That is the worst of it. Today, 95 for the air temperature. Mostly sunny, tonight 78 degrees, humidity starts to rise. We will feel the difference. Tomorrow, good chance to set some new records pretty much anywhere in the delaware valley. Record highs are cooler tomorrow, generally mid to upper 90s, philadelphia 96 is the record for tomorrow. We are forecasting 97. So that will set a new one. Watch out for showers and storms late in the day. Still 90s through the rest of the workweek. Yes, detours and delays, rahel. We are looking at i95 northbound between bartram avenue and the airport, of course, it is being removed and moved around a little bit by folks a at penndot. So is what happening here is the left lane is blocked and there are delays, so, police activity, they are monitoring that fiveton vehicle restriction, that is in i95 and on i95, vehicles over five tons are prohibited between vine street expressway and platt bridge from now through midday next friday. We will move traffic cam here, there you go to the the shot that is not being moved and we apologize for that. This is vine street expressway at i95. We have Police Department activity on the ramps to i95 southbound, the right lane is block and thinks all part of the Police Monitoring the five, that is on this highway. We will move the traffic cam again, one more time, this is i95 north bound at platt bridge and ramp to the platt bridge on the ramps to the platt, left lane is blocked and it is access to northbound i95 being blocked for trucks. About a thousand people made four and a half mile trek to e nan other campus all 7,000 raised will benefit center for grieving children and teens. That is a place tameika hamilton and her three children they vary well. It is something that we needed support to get us through daily. Reporter to have grief for the loss of her husband karl. He was killed in the car accident, two years ago, so we have been going ever since then. Reporter services are completely free, so the Center Executive director doctor Angel Richardson which means these funds will help them to allow even more families and children deal were lost. They are able to go and say this is what im feeling, this is what is going on and they are not bottling it up. They are able to express themselves better.
