Everybody stay strong and stay inside. Tonight is a testament to the power within all of us. A crisis of this scale requires action on all fronts. Yes, we must think globally and learn more about the World Health Organizations efforts to curb the pandemic and prevent future outbreaks but we also have to act locally. Its important to recognize charities and initiatives servicing our communities so that we understand those who are immediate need of resources to survive like food, shelter and health care. Tonight well be highlighting charities who are doing incredible work on the ground. Those Charities Benefit from the generosity of our private sector supporters. Chris martin from cold play is the than who just a few weeks ago started the Global Citizen together at home concert siris in his home. That blossomed into this enormous show youre watching tonight, and this is the performance that started it all. Hi, my name is chris. Is this on . Yes, it is. What was i supposed to do . This is 20 years old now this song. It may be older than some of you watching or listening or whatever. Look at the stars and how they shine for you and all the things you do this virus is causing so much heartache, but small acts of kindness are popping up everywhere like principal Michael Carra in massachusetts staying connected to his students by bringing mobile dance parties to their front lawns. Or in my hometown of new orleans a city being devastated by this virus tim loughlin plays music on his balcony every night. And all over the world its happening. Singing opera out of windows, virtual sewing parties for masks, and there are homemade signs everywhere to give us hope. This crisis has us all isolated but the strengthen of human kindness means we are never alone. You know ill love you so covid19 has left vulnerable populations across the country in dire circumstances with many wondering how and where theyll find their next meal. This week thousands across the country lined up desperate for food. I had a lady here yesterday with four little kids in the car, and she says im a waitress and i dont have any food. The need is even greater among the homeless. Thank you. Youre welcome. But every day people are stepping in to help. Its desperately needed now more than ever. From distributing meals along new york city streets to installing hand washing stations around atlanta. This is the time to start thinking about our brothers and sisters. My today show coanchor hoda kotb spoke to one woman in los angeles doing everything she can. For years 52yearold shirley a mother of 6 has helped the homeless with her foundation, beauty to the streets. Hand sanitizer, vitamin c. Dont touch your face, okay . Tell us what life is like on the front line . We find ourselves being formative for them as well as giving them supplies, so its a little scary and challenging at times. Despite the risks shirly says shell be there for them no matter what. Why do you keep coming out here . What do you say to them . I love them. I made a promise to them three years ago i was there for them. I know were in Uncertain Times right now, but this is not the time to desert them, and were going to make sure theyre okay. For the past few weeks many of us have been struggle to shelter at home. Imagine if you didnt have that aug option. The Homeless Community is one of the most vulnerable groups when it comes to facing covid19. The senior director of it youth shelter in Covenant House in new york city. Hi. Hi, amy. It helps homeless, run away and trafficked young people across 31 cities and 6 countries. The homeless including our homeless young people are in danger right now with little or no access to health care and testing. And theyre already enduring Chronic Health conditions that make them more susceptible. Homeless young people cannot selfisolate. They have nowhere to call home. I think its really important for our World Leaders to know we want to put an end to this virus. Everyone needs a way to survive it including our homeless young people who are just too often forgotten. Thank you so much for talking to me and to us. And thank you so much for all the care that you give to people who desperately need it. Go to act. Me to find out more how you can help your community during these times. Now with a special performance of its a Wonderful World please welcome Camilla Cabello and sean mendez. I see trees of green red roses too, i see them bloom for me and you and i think to myself what a Wonderful World i see skies of blue and clouds of white the bright blessed day and the dark of night and i just think to myself what a Wonderful World the colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky i saw on the faces on people going by i see friends shaking hands saying how do you do, let me just say it i love you i hear
