For the family, for the friends, for the parents of this active young girl, this is just unimaginable. This 22yearold woman out for a bike ride with a friend when suddenly a trailer carrying a fishing boat came untethered to the truck that was pulling it. The fishing boat and the trailer struck two women. Reporter the man who was towing the boat stayed at the grim scene as police tried to figure out what happened. A mangled bike sat on the side of hylan boulevard. Its owner, a 22yearold woman out for a ride with a friend when the towed fishing boat somehow detached from the truck that was pulling it. It first hit one bike rider. She later died from her injuries. A second young woman was dragged underneath the boat and seriously hurt. It was a horrifying scene for neighbors. Her arm was under the tire of the boat. I didnt go across though. I get very nervous. You didnt want to see anything up there. I did not. Reporter its not yet clear if the fishing boat was properly attached or secured to the toyota tundra. But the driver was allowed to leave the scene after talking with police. Give us an idea what happened. Boat is not supposed to becoming detached. Can you tell us how that happened . He did not stop to explain or offer condolences to the family of a 22yearold woman struck and killed by the boat that somehow came unhitched at the worst imaginable time. It was very scary. A 22yearold woman is dead. Another in serious condition. She was injured in this. Police are investigating the possibility that that trailer hitch was somehow modified and that may have caused it to become unsafe but again, no charges yet against that driver. The College Freshman the victim of a weekendlong vicious hazing ritual. Dozens of his Fraternity Brothers facing serious criminal charges. Five of them are charged with his murder. Two years later, justice is finally moving ahead for a Young College student who never even had a chance to begin chasing his dreams. Tonight prosecutors believe he was killed by those he tried to befriend. Reporter tonight more than 30 students are facing charges in the tragic hazing 19yearold michael deng who was a freshman. Five of the students are looking at murder. Oh, man. Thats terrible. Because its not like theyre out there in the streets doing bad things, doing drugs, or causing any harm. Theyre going to college. Reporter two years ago a group of students rented a house in the poconos for what should have been a weekend of bonding and pledging for pi delta psi. Instead Authorities Say it turned in to a deadly night of hazing. Investigators believe 19yearold michael deng was blindfolded, told to wear a 30pound backpack, then walked through a gauntlet of abuse, except the blows proved fatal. He lost consciousness. Instead of getting help right away, officials report the boys panicked, brought him inside, and tried to cover the evidence. It was an hour before he was taken to the hospital. Then it was too late. Such a mistake. So young. So foolish. I cant even imagine what the family is going through. Reporter pi delta psi reportedly had a name for this ritual, called the glass ceiling. The service was held in rutherford for lieutenant span who died at the age of 90. He was an original tuskegee airman, an elite squad of African American pilots who fought fearlessly during world war ii. He never talked about it. It wasnt something he discussed. And he only talked about the war because he and some other airmen got together and they said they owed it to those who didnt get back, who didnt make it back, to keep the story alive, keep their memory alive, and thats what were going to do. A long island couple is thanking police for helping make a very special delivery. When hospital in time. Police officers and a medic helped mom deliver a healthy baby girl yesterday morning in the back of a Nassau County police theyre on route from home to the Medical Center but the baby couldnt wait and was delivered right on the parkway. She was on the floor on her knees. They got her on the stretcher. They got her in the ambulance and the baby showed up. I cant thank them enough. It was such a scary experience but it turned in to an amazing experience. They were very professional and very calm and they kept us calm. Just thank you from the bottom of our hearts. As you can see, mom, dad, and baby are doing great. The proud parents have named their newborn girl sophie elizabeth. Some people say we dont do good news stories. Come on. Great news story.
