Its k2 or synthetic marijuana but police say its far more dangerous than the name suggests and because of todays bust, hundreds of thousands of those little packets wont make it to the street. This investigation has been underway for about a year and today officials got to show off the results of it, not just a 10 person indictment but also raids at dozens and dozens of delis and bodegas and Stores Across new york city. This was a major crackdown against what authorities described today as nothing more than a dangerously marketed poison. Local, state and federal officials came together and did not mince words about the dangers of synthetic marijuana or their efforts to get it off the streets. Today we launched an aggressive assault on a Public Health crisis that is reaching epidemic proportions. Reporter between yesterday and today, there have been more than 90 raids throughout the city from bodegas in Washington Heights and east harlem where the drugs were being sold to this tucked away building in the bronx where the potentially deadly chemicals, mainly from china, were being plants to make the product. What is being sold every day in bodegas and Convenience Stores throughout the city to teenagers, to Homeless People to addicts is literally poison. Overall six people have been arrested and authorities are searching for four more. They say all 10 are part of an International Organization responsible for the importing, manufacturing and distributing of about 260,000 packets worth of the drug in all five boroughs. At 5 a bag, thats more than 1 million worth of the stuff. Each bag marketed with kid friendly names, even fruit flavors to try and hide the Severe Health risks. We cannot tolerate the poisoning of our young people, the poisoning of some of our most helpless. Reporter because it is cheap and easy to find, Officials Say the drug is now making its way into prisons and getting into the hands of the homeless. The risks include everything from seizures, strokes and heart attacks to even death. Head coach kyle flood has come under fire after seven rutgers Football Players were suspended including one for domestic violence. He is also accused of inappropriately contacting a professor about a players grades. Flood, again, is suspended for three games. The University Says its because of his communication with the professor. Rutgers plays at penn state this saturday night. Police in new jersey releasing the sketch of a man wanted in two sexual assaults in one week. Prosecutors say the suspect you see here followed a woman from broad avenue to Second Street on september 10th. Police say he hit her from behind, knocked her to the ground and groped her. Two days earlier the man is accused of attacking another woman, the same way. Police on long island are searching for a driver in a hit andrun that seriously injured a homeless man. Suffolk county police say the victim was pushing a shopping cart on the shoulder of mill road and coram when he was struck by the vehicle around 11 00 this morning. A passerby found the victim lying on the side of the road and called 911. Police do not have a description of the vehicle because there are no known eyewitnesses to the crash. The victim is in Critical Condition this afternoon. An aide to Governor Cuomo who was shot hours before the west indian parade in brooklyn has been declared brain dead by doctors. Carey gabays relatives released a statement, writing, quote, there are difficult decisions we will face in the coming hours and days as our family struggles to process what this means. Governor cuomo shared his condolences on twitter asking all new yorkers to keep gabay and his family in their thoughts. The nypd now using facial Recognition Software to try and find the gunman. Also new at 4 00, a mother from Westchester County is now charged in the death of her young daughter. Back in april we told you about the death of 6yearold lacey carr, her body was discovered in a bedroom inside of her home on croton on hudson. Prosecutors say drugs in her system led to her death. Her mother, kathleen dymes, was found unconscious in the home as well. Well, a short time ago dymes was arraigned in white plains. She is charged with negligent homicide. Prosecutors say she is receiving treatment in a rehab facility. The new York High SchoolScience Teacher accused of crashing a drone in the stands at the u. S. Open appeared in court in queens today. 26yearold danielle verlay Attorney Says landed in a singles match last month but the drone kept flying after it lost communication with the remote control. His Attorney Says he planned to use the drone in his classroom. New york city will be a no fly zone when the pope arrives next week. The faa says all Unmanned Aircraft will be prohibited anywhere in or around the five boroughs and anyone caught flying a drone could face criminal charges. Searchers found the body of a fifth hiker killed when a sudden deluge rushed through in a Narrow Canyon in zian national Zion National park. The bodies were found yesterday. Theres two vehicles. And theres this new video that captures the horrifying moments when a wall of water swept two vehicles down a river in hildale, utah. Inside those vehicles, three women and 13 children. 12 of them were killed, three survived and one person is still missing. Wow, in san diego a semitruck, the driver lost control on a rain soaked freeway. You can see that driving rain. It jackknifed and then crashed into several cars and a local news van, six vehicles were involved in the crash, one woman required medical attention, just minor medical attention. Thankfully no one was seriously hurt. Some of that weather video so disturbing, so sad to see it. Thats the remnants of hurricane linda and going into the west. It my be a byproduct of el nio strengthening as some of the moisture gets farther north, they get much needed rain but they havent had it, dont know how to handle it. So the clouds to the south and the moisture cant get here, we are watching a front thats off to the west coast. Thats going to eventually make its run east. Some of that moisture thats over the south will try to come up the coast. Minimal moisture gets here over the weekend but a cold front will bring our numbers back to more reasonable or seasonable levels and thats mid70s by next week. So very warm, 87 degrees tomorrow, just like today, as we go into the day on friday, a little more of an ocean breeze, looks like we are around 86, maybe a few more patchy clouds, coastal numbers are probably in the 70s and then as the weekend goes on, probably saturday is the warmer day before the front gets here on sunday.
