Its going to be much warmer tomorrow, but the rain does hang around. Spring showers really on and off much of this week. Here it is on the accu track. Showers are moving in west to east this morning. Its just getting the sprinkles and light rain going underway in the boros. Staten island seeing the rain coming in. Northwest new jersey seeing the rain coming across from pennsylvania. Showers will be on and off. Occasional rain is the best way to describe. Any way you spell it, people are going to get wet. The big bike rides, the long island marathon, any activities we have outdoors, prepare for the events. Slick streets as well. Thousands of cyclist wills hilt the streets today for the 39th 39th annual five boro bike tour taking cyclists from Lower Manhattan to the bronx and queens and brooklyn, and into Staten Island. Kristin thorne is live in tribeca where the first leg of the ride will kick off. Good morning, kristin. Reporter they committed to do this, 40 miles through the five boros. We are here near one of the many starting points. Were here at Church Street and white street, the first round of riders are expected to leave here around 7 30 this morning. Some 32,000 bikers from across the country and the world for that matter. I mean, you have to remember this is very cool. You get to go biking through 40 miles of new york city with no cars at all, so you dont have to worry about that. This really is a draw, quite a draw for the city. Again, 40 miles through the five boros. The proceeds are used to support bike new york, funding bike Education Programs throughout the five boros. This is the 39th annual tour. Another victim has been found after that devastating flash flooding in east texas. The body of a 30yearold man who was swept away in flood waters was found in palestine, texas. A woman and her four great grandchildren were killed trying to flee the waters. It swamped as entire neighborhood. As many as 30 people have been displaced by the latest round of floods. On long island, flames rose high above the fire Island Community of fair island. Many firefighters around the authorities have reported no injuries, thank goodness. In queens, two men were injured in a drive by shooting in cambria heightings. Police say heights. They were standing on the corner of linden boulevard and 208th 208th street. One man was shot in the leg, the other in the chest. They were both taken hospital. Were learning more about an apparent bias attack in a story of queens from the neighbor who helped the young victim. A 19yearold was beaten by three people who used their fists, a pipe, and bats all while they yelled racial slurs in their face. Ron garcia saw the trio push the victim up against a gate. He says he knows it could have gotten a whole lot worse. Im just glad that it turned out for the better for him, and i guess, as a community, we have to find these guys. The victims father says the quote hoodlums with simply Nothing Better to do but hes one and we have hey what are you here for . You getting poked, prodded or pinched . . We have an easterly wind and thats going to bring the air off the ocean inland and for the most part, were looking at a cool, raw day. Will be uncomfortable at times. Showers moving from the west, and they will spread eastward, so while its still okay out east for the runners, i think by the time you get into the race, youre dealing with rain. It will be light rain. This moderate batch of shower activity thats a little bit further west comes early afternoon and thats when we could get a little bit of heavy off. We are getting wet outside. Prepare for your rain gear, if you have outdoor activities. Yesterday was the better day. I dont knowers, delegate ready for the moderate rainfall. Along yonkers getting ready for the moderate rainfall. From about 11 to 1 00 p. M. , that could help make for lighter rainfalls around the boros. At least youre not having any heavy downpours or deluge coming in. More rain is coming early in monday, heavier showers with a frontal passage there. We cant shake the showers.
