Straight ahead on Eyewitness News saturday morning, a dangerous end to a a man is in custody after a highspeed chase that led police through four counties in north texas. The 26yearold driver took off after refusing to pull over for officers last night. Investigators say at times during the chase, the driver was going as fast as 100 Miles Per Hour with his headlights off. Eventually, officers stopped the car using those spike strips, causing the driver to then crash. Temperatures are crashing. I know that. Yes. What is going on . Well, its going to be a quick hit of arctic air. I like the quick word. If we were just talking near record cold, thats one thing, but when the winds get up to 40 Miles Per Hour with the low temperature like that, its the two. The areas farther north could really see windchills of 30 below . Below zero . The science is there. The fm temperatures go as low as we expect and winds go as high as were predicting, that could create 30 below windchills and thats incredible. Just the windchills were predicting for the city, 10 to 25 below zero, thats enough to create frostbite, to be real uncomfortable and dangerous for your exposed skin. So this is what were talking about later tonight and its early tomorrow morning when the windchills will get to their lowest point. Thats when you want to avoid the longterm outdoor exposure. Feels like 11 degrees right now. We start off with temperatures in the park at 21. Thats going to feel balmy compared to what were looking at. Temperatures will be getting teens and 20s is where we begin. These are the warmest temperatures well see all day. Mercury crashing from here, going down to the Single Digits and below zero thermometer readings tonight. As the winds pick up today, thats when the chill gets even worse because the reading is a combination of whats on the thermometer plus the wind and how quickly the cold air is taking heat away from the body. Thats what were talking about when we say windchill. Just how extremely cold its going to feel for you. This will be the coldest weve had this winter. The coldest that we got all winter last winter was 2 degrees on february 20th. The coldest its ever been in new york city is 15 below, february 9, 1934. Some records are in jeopardy. Thats not really what this is all about. Combined with the low temperatures, which the winds could be gusting up to 40 Miles Per Hour at top speeds. In and around the borough, were expecting a 20, 25 mile perhour gust, but thats enough to take our windchill to below zero. All of this area in terms of deep purple, thats 10 to 20 below zero windchill. Extremely cold. Even worse, north and west extending into northern counties, these temperatures are going so low and winds so strong, we could see down to 30 below as far as windchill goes. So the worst of it is certainly late tonight where the temperatures go into the Single Digits and weve got the big winds. Even in the morning, we are looking at 7 below zero for the thermometer readings. The coldest temperature, 10 below in monticello. Really cold air. By sunday afternoon, the sunshine starts to moderate the temperatures, the winds wind cold air quickly. While over the weekend, theres not a chance to get a storm around here. Early next week, there is a batch of energy coming across the upper midwest. As that starts to happen, well watch this one really closely because as that system swings in, our temperatures are just starting to turn from very cold to very warm. So we could get mixed precipitation. Tonight near the record of 2 degrees overnight. Bitter sunshine tomorrow and subzero windchills. The accuweather sevenday forecast, for valentines day, yeah, its going to be a cold one. Youll want to find somebody to cuddle up to because its going to be uncomfortable at times, especially tomorrow morning.
