Rob we welcome you back to our 2015 tcs new York City Marathon coverage here on channel 7. You see the masses coming what a beautiful shot there. You can see as the masses come to us right into your living room. Thank you for being with us. Our day began bright and early, dark and early. Hannah you know what was funny . I dont know if you had this same experience. As i was coming to work this morning, so many people were still out in their Halloween Costumes partying. Rob i left the hotel and some people were just coming in. Hannah yes. Quite the weekend between the world series games, halloween and then this morning the Biggest Party possible here in central park. Rob i dont know who is having more fun than new york city this weekend. Its been fantastic. Every step of the way has been fun. Hannah i can name three folks who had a lot of fun today. John, tim, and carrie who did a great job calling the race. We talked about how both the winners on mens and womens side were parents. Carrie, no the to give it away, carrie is almost there with another on the way. Well done, my friend. Carrie thats why we have this up here. Were trying to keep that ill tell you. John the knicks, too. Carrie knock it off. Rob, you know what i look like when im pregnant. Rob yes, i do. John a year after having what was horrendous weather to run a marathon, we had great weather today. We had great races which doesnt necessarily mean it has to be fast races. Certainly interesting. Mary keitany comes in the defending champ and proved again she is the boss. Carrie she is the boss. She listened to her boss, the coach. He said run only. Thats what she did today, along with her not training partner, not teammate but someone coached by the same coach, our second place, Aselfech Mergia we see sara moreira who was third last john about 17 miles. Carrie exactly, before keitany took over. Once keitany took off, tufa went with her. And tufa was third. Mary keitany showed she is one of the best marathoners ever. John she came out to reassert her dominance in the sport. She did that, winning by almost a minute and a half after winning last year by just a few seconds. So certainly a much more comfortable margin for her. Theres Peter Ciaccia. I always loved that. We sort of the the wreath is fantastic. Keitany, tufa. I would like to go down and see the american laura thweatt, First American through, running her first marathon. Five months ago she didnt want to do it, came through to do it to improve her track speed and her track base for next spring and came through and had a fabulous, fabulous performance. Lewis, i understand, lewis tracked down the second and third place finishers. Well hear what lewis has to say. Lewis i have them and their translator here. If you could ask them what did it mean for ethiopia to finish second and third today in the new York City Marathon. Translator it is a great feeling. It was a great feeling to be second and third. And the people of new york were on the sidelines cheering us. It gave us great moral encouragement. We feel very good. Lewis also, are you working together when youre racing . And at what point do you decide that now you have to go for your own race . [speaking in foreign language] interpreter the 32nd kilometer is when we decided to split. But until the 36th kilometer, figurist was the leader tigist was right behind the leader. Lewis please tell them we said congratulations. I wish i could say it. Congratulations to both of you. [speaking in foreign language] lewis and with that we go over to laura. Laura thanks so much. I have tennis star victoria as republican cowith me. Youre here to welcome you may have a special treat for him of the right . Victoria i was running outside yesterday on the street. It was actually my morning Halloween Costume is being an nyc marathon runner. He said for me to run. Im not prepared for it. I said maybe i can offer you water. He said, i wont be craving any water. For sure i want a milk shake. I was on the hunt for the best milk shake in the city today. I got one. So its waiting for him in a cooler. Laura how nice is that . Everybody should have somebody like you at the finish line. We sought Caroline Wozniaki last year. Would you ever consider it . I think i would. What shes done last year was absolutely incredible with the time she finished. And james doing it for his foundation is really remarkable. So to support a good cause, i would definitely do this. But i want to be prepared for it. So maybe in two years. Laura what do you think of this atmosphere in new york . Its absolutely incredible. It makes you want to run right now. I should feel pain standing here. Just because these people are so incredible, you know, its absolutely amazing. Its fun. Sport brings everybody together. The whole city. So its really fun. On tv it doesnt look the same. Laura we could not have said it better ourselves. Victoria, thanks so much. Well let you get back to the milk shake guarding duties. Back to the booth with hannah and rob. Hannah shes one of our favorite sports figures as were joined by our director Peter Ciaccia here. As the sun has come in youre in the shadows. Just literally as youre front and center here. Its so fun seeing great moments here at the u. S. Open and then on hand. A lot of celebrities coming. We want to update people that james blake is doing pretty well. He wanted to finish sub four hours. Hes on pace now for about 3 50. Peter good. Hannah best moment for you today so far . Peter jeez, the whole thing has been unbelievable for us. This is truly new york citys biggest block party. From start to finish. I said this earlier, you know, ive been down the course maybe 14 years of doing this. It has never been, never been, as crowded and crazy. It was just deep with people cheering. Just having a good time. Thats what its about. We invite 50,000 people here to run. Theyre all having a good time. Rob the energy in the city this week, we talked about in this morning. The energy in the city this week was at an alltime high. I think the marathon was a big part of that. You had fun. Peter sure. It starts rob starts tomorrow for next year. Peter its just not marathon day. Its marathon week here. We have lots of things to do. The folks are really great sponsors. They work with us all year. Of course, we can never do this without the city, our friends in unbelievable. Who gets to close down the city streets and the verrazano bridge and just have fun on it . Rob nobody but you. Hannah an inspirational moment for you of this marathon . There are so many. Peter i think most inspirational, weve been meeting with a bunch of people, the faces of the marathon. Theres a there running but a duo, one of our pusher duos, came in which is a father pushing a sibling through the finish line. It was really special for me. To see that. Rob its made up, this entire day, of moments. The stories, the leaders and the winners and all of them give us but its the stories crossing the finish line right now just as special. Peter right. They allow us to tell the story coming through. Terrific. Hannah mary keitany, mama, too. I was like, yeah. And Stanley Biwott has a couple of kids. Tatyana mcfadden. She is clearly one of the most dominant athletes in the world. Youve got to put her up there with i would say serena, ronda rousey, people who are absolutely the queens of their sport. Peter, listen, your day is far from done. Look at all of these faces coming in, the great sense of accomplishment and exhaustion all wrapped up in one package. Rob thanks for inviting us to the block party. Peter thats what its about. Hannah still going on. Into the night now with the anthony . Anthony were here with antonio few moments ago. Of course we had to go ahead and talk to him. Look at his head dress. Tell us about this outfit and its an aztec mayan inspired, which carries the culture, tradition, pride. Its a symbol of the mexican people and its past and present as well. Its a privilege and an honor to run with Something Like this. Anthony you were telling me it inspired people along the track. People go crazy in every sense, cheering. The support is amazing from spectators and runners alike. Anthony this is great. Tell us about your run. You know, we did ask you earlier, when youre running with a head piece like that, do you get a head wind . Definitely. Fortunately today was not as windy. It slows me down a little bit. But you just kind of deal with it. Its fun. Its fun to do it with this. Anthony thank you. We appreciate it. Congratulations for finishing. You have a great day, too. Now back to hannah and rob in the studio. Hannah you know, anthony, there are some people who dress up and wear a lot of stuff. And, rob, there are some people that we cant even show you on Television Like a guy that just crossed. Rob he could pull that off, though. Hannah yeah. Not wearing much. All right. We love your pictures. Keep them coming. Rob thats all from period of time. Look at that. Coverage continues after this. Layover. 24 hours. Hello, reykjavik. Oh, so thats how you spell it. What are you looking at . Oh, cool. Hungry. Fish, anyone . Hello, seventh waterfall of the day. Hello, duck boat. Hello, sheep . Oh right itchy icelandic sweaters and no foreign transaction fees. Sweet. One last look. Ahh. Triple points. And were off. Whats next . Wherever the journey takes you, carry American Express gold. Its more than a card. Hannah were just passed the 3 30 mark. You see people crossing the finish line. Hannah storm and rob powers in his own personal marathon today. Hes going to change his shirt and tie and cover the world series tonight. Rob where else would you rather be . Hannah thats right. Rob who has it better than us . Hannah nobody. Maybe john, the chief marketing officer for tcs. This requires a huge infrastructure, a lot of dollars and support. Why did you choose to throw yours behind this particular john tcs is a technology company. We hire smart people. We believe that Healthy Bodies equal healthy minds. So we really wanted to support activities that promote health and wellness. This is a great event to do that. Its beyond a sporting event. Its really a community event. We really wanted to put our efforts behind a community effort. And whats a Bigger Community effort than this event . Rob its the big. Theres a professional commitment and then a more personal thing. This is not just a corporate venture for your company. This is the deal. John its not just about putting the brand out there. Thats part of it we believe the tata group is immersed in giving back to the community. Our whole philosophy of our business is to do that. We have about 60,000 employees signed up for some internal fitness programs. So were not only supporting community but were also doing it ourselves within the company. Rob theres no better statement. Hannah and over 300 Charities Involved here, too. So by supporting the race in and of itself, you support so many nonprofits and so many causes. At the tcs new York City Marathon. We appreciate your time. John thanks for having me. Hannah we have a little complaint by our folks on the other side. John, tim and carrie . This used to be their booth right here. And you and i have the prime seat here with john. So John Anderson has been pouting. Rob what hannah wants, hannah gets, john. John im not sure pouting but a lot of complaining, yes. The way it was sold, you were going to have this great new place. We were apriling where is hannah going to be. It shouldnt be in our spot. Right. Whatever. Just because you spend two years getting frozen you decide now you get that . Hannah exactly. John we used to admire your toughness. Now not so much. Hannah now im a wimp. Its getting a little warm in here. Carrie stop it. John victoria is getting us milk shakes. We told her dont bring hannah one. Rob well stay in the tree house. Well be all right. John we heard john from tcs say we like smart people. Smart wins races. Today we thought we would get some of the magic again. And we did. But it was at third and fourth. Up top we had Geoffrey Kamworor and Stanley Biwott. And they put together a terrific race for us. Race. One of the lessons we learned is that these guys have to learn to race and think on their feet. This in many respects was like a games. There will not be somebody laying out the red carpet and then you start racing. This is racing in the raw. What was special about biwotts runs. In second place. Stanley biwott prepared very specifically for today. Nothing else getting in the way. The guys in second, third, fourth and fifth all race at World Championships in beijing 10 weeks ago. Biwould the in the middle having his focus biwott having his focus rewarded. John the top 10 finishers in there. And yuki kawauchi. And Meb Keflezighi, over 40
