After decades of delays on a bridge replacement in the outer banks, today marks a major milestone for North Carolina. Crews plan move forward with construction on a new bonner bridge, stretching across the oregon inlet. For years, 10 on your side has covered the story on the current bridge. Crews built it in the 1960s and the bridge was designed to last only last 30 years. You about emergency shutdowns for repairs to keep the aging bridge up and running. The constant battle and legal issues with environmental groups, residents and transportation officials prevented North Carolina from building a new bridge. The groups eventually dropped the lawsuits and paved the way for the muchneeded replacement that will start this morning.
