One o 1.5 and the w.b. a 0 Mobile. Welcome to the show I hope if you stayed up and watched the big game last night that you had an extra cup of coffee which I have yet to get to but I certainly will at least during the show because I mean it congratulations to the nationals on their World Series win but man it was a long games long series so anyways congratulations they win so I want to start off with something that I really hadn't intended to talk about and that was this impeachment inquiry vote so I want to get a couple things straight about what this was and what this was it so the president hasn't been impeached as of yet that has not happened yet the impeachment inquiry started gushing about a month ago now what was voted on today however or the rules for a process that's already occurring so what they did was actually formalize Here are the rules that we're going to be playing by somewhere in I don't know the 2nd inning I guess is we're going to start going down these rules and here's the deal there is no constitutional requirement the Constitution doesn't require that this vote that occurred today actually happen nor do the house rules actually require for this vote to occur so what I'm saying is that this was a voluntary vote on a set of rules that House Democrats have put forth as to how they're going to conduct the rest of the hearings impeachment inquiry hearings so kind of weird like we're going to you know just now in the 2nd inning we're going to go on record as to how we're going to play this game good to know I suppose but you don't have to do that in b. If you were going to do that what you do in the beginning well I think that the reasons that they didn't do it the Democrats didn't do this in the beginning is for purely political reasons and that is that there were a whole lot of Democrat representatives and I know we tend to think and I'm guilty of this as well we tend to think so. Times that Democrats in the house are all completely 100 percent on board with the impeachment inquiry and the truth is that's not the case as a matter of fact there are some significant number of new House Democrats who were elected in position in districts where it's kind of questionable kind of questionable and you've got a lot of conservative Democrats who may not want to see an impeachment inquiry and so the fear was that if there was an actual vote you know where they actually had to put their name on it then a lot of these representatives or enough of these representatives might have a tough time getting reelected or just wouldn't get reelected at all and then Democrats lose the house well that's a problem if you want to impeach the president but you don't want to go on record as doing so that's that's going to cause some problems. However things have kind of changed a little bit there are polls showing now that a lot of Americans are actually in favor of the impeachment inquiry you know back up a 2nd that doesn't necessarily mean that America. The general American public is in favor of impeachment but rather the inquiry you know lets us find out more but in a sketchy behavior let's find out more well I want to ask you something is that really the case because again what was voted on today was not to impeach the president it was to set the rules for a process that's already in place and that is the impeachment inquiry just the inquiries the hearings what's been going on up until now have been private hearings so behind closed doors subpoenas and kind of closed door testimony that's been going on and we get the snippets that are reported what's going to happen now is a complete circus because it's going to be public hearings and now there are rules as to how those public hearings are going to be conducted interesting enough some of those rules if you will recall you know every time we have these hearings these whether it's impeachment or Brett Kavanaugh or any of these other hearings right one of the biggest complaints is that you have all these politicians who are just they're not making any sense clearly there to say you're 2 minutes of whatever your sound bites and then we all move on well part of what this role is is that it won't just be members of the house that are going to be able to question some of the witnesses will in all likelihood have experienced attorneys trial attorneys who can examine in cross-examine these witnesses so hopefully I guess for the public it will make a little bit more sense maybe you won't be as I don't know politically drawn out or you won't have as much of the political circus that's not true is the truth is you're still going to have a political circus now is just going to be out in the open comma like the Brett Kavanaugh hearings is what I'm suggesting I'm guessing is going to happen but also they get to question them for longer I think originally it was 5 minutes now I think they'll be able to question them for up to 90 minutes that's a long time to ask a bunch of questions. I got these text from Ed do you differ from the rules used by the house during the Clinton inquiry I am not sure about that and I'll check on that but like I said these are not. Required by the constitution for them to even set these rules no nor they require this vote I'm sorry nor is it required by the House rules to vote on this and yet they did so anyways and look here's a guy when you live in a political bubble I feel like I do you for at least most of my day my job is to you know look at politics understand politics and try to relate it but a lot of people especially those outside of the d.c. Bubble that's not their whole life are not constantly inundated or even interested in the political ins and outs of what's going on in d.c. . As part of my preparation for the show every day I said you know I usually skim over as many different news outlets m.s.n. B.c. And c.n.n. And Fox News in Real Clear Politics and Reason dot com all these other publications well to make it a little bit easier on myself I signed up for the New York Times daily alert it's basically like an outline that they send you every day of what their big topics are well included in that thank you so much New York Times is a daily outline I guess are daily alert of what's been going on in the impeachment inquiry so every day when I get that e-mail I glance at it and keep moving to the rest of my e-mail because it just is not that interesting to me and I am in politics all the time it's where I live so I'm curious you know because there are polls that show that you know a lot a majority of Americans or significant number of Americans are interested or they do believe that the in impeachment inquiries should be going on and that's fine but I want to ask you Do you find as do you find this necessary actually does the general American public actually want this because if your point is again to get rid of the president well we're almost a year away from the 2020 election this would be a much cleaner break you don't have all the messiness the division that goes along with the impeachment inquiries and then the vote and then the fact that the Senate is not going to convict I mean it's a Republican held Senate so they're not going to Victor we don't we all know that right so why do this then Nancy Pelosi I think has had an incredibly difficult time and no fan of her politics but she's had an incredibly difficult time kind of wrestling in the more progressive the more liberal side of her party those that are activist if you will who have been saying you've got impeached the guy that's the entire purpose that we're here the Rashida to leave the party saying we can't I came here to impeach the guy and I'm paraphrasing here but if I we're here to impeach him Ok And then what else what else are you going to do is that to your sole purpose you want that's your entire mandate then no wonder we can't get anything done. So I want to ask you Do you think the American public actually wants this is it about holding the president accountable because you know you can do that with the same amount of time that it will require you to take to get through this whole impeachment inquiry and then votes and then the Senate and through the election at least you're not you know on record splitting people on one side or the other that's what's going to happen I don't think it's going to do anything to make politics or the general conversation better in America now you know you guys know me I I am a procedures kind of person. So I said all along if you want this impeachment inquiry to happen then. He's the president has done enough to raise red flags and you know I say this as somebody who has supported a lot of the president's policies I'm a Republican but come on if you know you've got a target on your back you don't just make it bigger you know just put it out there on in the open you don't just go stand in an open field and wait to get you know shot that's the president has been doing something very similar every time he you know tweets or puts out a bad message or even the issues with Syria come on you're making it more difficult for yourself so it's an impeachment inquiry is going to clear the air and find do it knock yourself out but it would be in general American public wants I want to get your thoughts on this you can text me 410-467-1225 can also give me a call at 410467 w b a l Let's take ed in Savannah park and you want to be Dale high you're receiving. A 1st off if I'm a full disclosure I am not a Democrat. At all they drive me crazy in a lot of ways but if they're able to establish that President from withheld $400000000.00 of congressionally appropriated money to have a 3rd to execute a shadow. Foreign policy to strongarm a foreign nation to for his own political benefits here at home how that's not impeachable based on the Federalist Papers never thing I read that nothing is yeah we got a we got a election coming up but if we just drop this and just ignore them we're going to you know as an attorney then you're going to set a precedent that people can point to in the future how that's not impeachable that's a hard time our book well yeah thanks for the call and and you know look I'm on the same page with and here I. I'm not a huge fan of one I don't want to put words in its mouth but just for myself I'm not a huge fan of this whole political side of the impeachment inquiry as I said the president has done enough of that phone call with the current Ukrainian president you can spin that a whole lot of ways and not very many of them look good including you can argue that it was not a quid pro quo you can argue that even if it was is something that we do regularly you can argue that yes you wanted the Ukrainian president to investigate the Bidens but not for political reasons that you want to get your opponent out of the way but rather you want to I guess check Ukraine's involvement in our Russia in our election interference Ok you can spin it a lot of ways what I'm saying is if you need to be in the same room in a hearing to be able to make those arguments so that the general public can understand what's actually going on then fine do it because as Ed was saying you do set a dangerous precedent for the next time there's a Democrat in office and you know that's going to happen at some point may not happen in 2020 but eventually there's going to be another Democrat president and heaven forbid they ever do something that kind of looks catchy and you kind of want to test a gate because if then we say that we don't support it in this case it's got to be about process and some things that are set aside for a 2nd Donald Trump and Democrats just set that aside for a 2nd it's got to be about process if it really is about process then all right let's move forward but I don't know that's necessarily what it's about here is Nancy Pelosi talking about this sadly this is not any cause for any glee a comfort this is something that is very solemn that is something prayerful and that we had to gather so much information to take us to this next step then again this is a solemn occasion nobody I doubt anybody in this place or anybody that you know comes to Congress to take the oath of office comes to Congress to impeach the president of the United States unless. His actions are jeopardizing our honoring our oath of office. I don't know I'd say Rashid it's really representative or she just really made it pretty clear why she came to Congress and that whole mandate but look. I don't want to say that I don't want to give her too much credit here because I do know that Nancy Pelosi is a master politician she is really good at what she does in politics and I don't agree with a lot of what she does I don't I'm pretty sure there are some people who are Bridge joisting right now who are very excited even though again as I said the vote today was not to actually impeach the president it was simply to set ground rules for a process that has already been going on for about a month and is going to continue going on it's like you know you said in baseball it's like we're in the 2nd inning and now we're going to set the rules Ok I guess we're going to set the rules for the rest of the innings great but that doesn't mean that you haven't already been playing and that's what's going on here so I don't want you to think that today the president was in peace or that today the inquiry started you know it's been going on this is why I'm saying this is kind of political and yes there is an idealistic side of me that I guess you could say well now they're finally saying the rules are finally going to give us the rules which to be honest has been a Republican sticking point for the last few weeks that hey there's no due process we don't even know what the rules are there basically doing whatever it is that they want well they're humans going to kind of go out the window at least in the sense that now you know what you're working with now you know the boundaries and the rules that they're going to be working with. But it still begs the question I know that there are a lot of people in d.c. Inside the Beltway and those who follow politics are probably very interested in this but is this what the American public wants what the general American public wants I want to get your thoughts on that you can text me 410-467-9225 also give me a call at 410467. I get this text the only people that don't want this is the Republicans and watch how they act during the opening hearings or oil sure the Republicans and 2 Democrats who voted against the impeachment vote today and those are represented Collin Peterson a Democrat from Minnesota and Jeff van drew Democrat from New Jersey yeah they actually voted no also represented just in a marsh formally a Republican now an independent. Yeah he voted yes on this so it was pretty clear along party lines but not everyone but even if it was along party lines fine but is that what the American public wants we have an election coming around the corner 2020 is that the best way to get rid of the president if you don't like him rather than impeach him think about all the things that went on during the Clinton impeachment hearings think about all the ways that the country was divided and fractured as a result of that is the best way to do it I want to get your thoughts on that morning on the police.
