>> this is the feldman murder case we are told by our coleen harry that sources are saying the suspect in the case of the murder of that 82-year-old woman is her son. police are expected to release new information about the case in a news conference this afternoon. you will remember in 2014 feldman was found dead in her home on torrey pines court. and she was beaten and strangled and she was 82. that news conference is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at cmpd headquarters we will be watching it and bring you the latest details. >> a lot of people involved. anticipating something. right now snow in the north carolina mountains. our neighbors here in the charlotte area are cleaning up the mess yesterday's storms left behind people in the mountains are dealing with a blast of winter weather. >> let's get you straight over to chief meterologist, eric thomas in the first alert weather center. >> yeah, and that big storm continues to drift off to the north and the wind field winds into the viewing area especially the mountains. and it's not just the winds but the snowfall it's piling up. reports of 3-4 inches. some of the bands have shifted into the central mountains but affecting avery county. the winter weather advisory in effect through friday 7:00 a.m. and additional 1-2 inches. and then the wind advisory for gusts above 50-miles-per-hour. allegheny, ash, and watauga counties. you will see the snow and that continues to roll in. closer to charlotte down to 42 at 9:00 p.m. and 40 through 11:00 p.m. with the stiff breezes in the air. we will get into the accumulations and the wind gusts part of your seven-day first-alert forecast. >> eric, the winter weather has returned to the north carolina mountains with cold temperatures and snow. this is a live look at banner elk. on the ground. steve ohnesorge has more now from avery county. >> in avery county when a winter day gets like this, you got to keep the feet moving. those outside who had to be like winter might bring. >> not so fast. this weather is ok, he thinks. >> it's not bad. >> it's bringing tourists up and they can get around. main highways are good. side roads depends. >> there are places that are slicker than others. >> trucks are spreading a lot of salt they know the drill. highway crews will have to keep working through the night because there's so much wind when they get a section cleared the snow blows right back over it. and with the temperatures below freezing, they are concerned that things will ice up to tonight. take it slow. and should get where you are meanwhile, folks are out clearing after the severe weather. the national weather service confirms one tornado touching down in grandville county and checking reports of tornadoes in cumberland, more, sampson and vance counties. >> winds and trees left thousands of people without power. thousands of people remain in the dark in mecklenberg county. duke energy reports 4100 outages across the county. >> the downed trees hitting and neighbors are dealing with limbs and debris from the trees. and steve crump live in charlotte with more on this and steve, the song of hugo, the chainsaw about to happen? >> yeah, paul, we know that chorus for sure especially having gone through that 20 years ago. we are seeing the after effects of the high winds in charlotte. and while folks may have their lights on it has been a day of clean up. and the most noticeable damage from uprooted trees. folks were moving debris from the yards and setting things up for curbside pick up. charlotte sherwood forest felt the pain. folks were without power and they spent time cleaning up their yards. >> it wasn't too bad just limbs from the trees down. >> now if you live in the impacted areas there is a chance on your door from contractors that are out providing services but coming your way at 6:00 p.m. we have advice from the head of the better business bureau who says make sure you have the folks vetted and do not become a victim power. breyer wood was closed because they had no way to heat the school or prepare meals for kids. at nearby kip charter school classes started late. and we will havav continuing coverage of the and candidates are out right now trying to score last-minute hillary clinton's husband president bill clinton was in rock hill helping gain support for his wife. michael clark was at today's event. so what did president clinton have to say? >> president clinton talked about everything from job creation and especially race issues and that is important because african-americans will makeup more than half of the voters casting a ballot in the primary on saturday. another stop on the campaign trail for former president clinton. while hillary clinton makes her pitch to voters in the palmetto state of 40 firefighter cars at fire stations across six cities. today police arrested 26-year-old johnny bing in charlotte he is behind break-ins in more than a dozen fire departments in charlotte, cornelius, huntersville, kannapolis, greensboro and fort mill. police released information including how they were able to track him down. brigida mack joins us with more. >> paul, police believe this man has a long history of stealing from cars. but he acted alone. although the investigation continues. and a lot of folks were wondering how did the thief know when firefighters were gone from the station house and was he listening to scanners? >> we do not believe this is an elaborate scheme. i think i don't know why he picked where he did other than so it wasn't an elaborate jumping fences and busting out windows or unlocked doors. >> police believe johnny bing hit 14 fire stations stealing property from cars including eight weapons. when the cases started happening in charlotte police had officers do surveillance and detectives cracked the case in york county where a fire station was hit. >> the key piece of evidence i cannot tell you what the evidence was but it was found in york county during the investigations which led us to give the ability to look at a retail store that has surveillance and we were able to pinpoint this individual. >> an analyst was able to identify and evidence let them to a car that bing uses they cated that car in the north lake mall. they found one of the stolen weapons. police and firefighters glad to get him off the streets tonight. >> thank apartment complex where a woman was killed in south charlotte. >> we told you about this arrest in the case. center. >> sky3 got on scene and you can cecum of squad cars there at the home where feldman was found dead in 2014. and it looks like one of the larger vans and police vehicles. but that is the neighborhood where she was found dead in 2014. you remember what the crime scene looked like. we can show you that video much more active scene there. police believe that she was beaten and strangled. 82 years old that is torrey pines court in south charlotte. same location we were showing you. again we are expecting more information about this case. our coleen harry telling us that sources are saying that her son has been arrested for this murder. we will be watching this 60-miles-per-hour up in the mountains and we are seeing gusts in charlotte around 30-miles-per-hour. and right now, part of that wind field and wind is hard to see unless it's blowing something and it's blowing snow in the high country. you see it around tennessee and up in virginia. here you go, again some of the snow bands working still across avery county but more shifted more into the central mountains. but that starts to work backup into ash and watauga counties. and be on the lookout for one-two inches as the snow continues tonight. and the advisory could still see maybe 3-4 in the highest elevations up on the western slopes of the ski mountains. these are the current gusts this is actual live data. you will see we have that gust of 30-miles-per-hour in going forward the gusts will be significant. especially up here in the mountains. 42-miles-per-hour there abouts at 11:00 p.m. and 20-30 across the piedmont. through the overnight, will you see where most of the action will be here as we start to see the winds begin to let up outside of the mountains. the hd towercam, you can see the wobbling going on. the camera is 300 feet off the ground. and 50-miles-per-hour.
