It happened overnight on Pointer Ridge drive in the catawba plantation subdivision. Ashton pellom has been on the scene talking to investigators, to neighbors and ashton you learned in the last few minutes more about the man arrested. Reporter thats exactly right, christine. Within the past five minutes we the man who was arrested here at the home right behind me on Pointer Ridge drive for murder charges out in halifax county. That man is Tyquan Powell. Cmpd releasing that information not long ago, he was wanted for murder out of halifax county. They arrived at the home just before midnight last night, they found powell barricaded in the residence at the home here on Pointer Ridge drive, members of the swat team and Negotiation Team were called out to set up perimeter and around 3 45 this morning, they tell us the swat team went in the home and then took powell outside of the home in custody without further incident. Out here at the scene i spoke with a neighbor who talked about the whole ordeal said it was scary, take a listen as he describe the tense moments this morning. Very very, scary. Bad guys have the armor on, we dont. Im wondering if what was going to come through my house. My brother was in the driveway, hes sitting out there praying i hope nothing happened. We spoke with the neighbor, he said the neighbors have been living there and they have had issues with them or the neighbors had issues outside of the home you can see the furniture turned over right there in the background behind me, that was from a dispute involving the people in that house. John 6 04, this morning, Charlotte City council has approved an ordinance that gives people in the Lbgt Community new legal protections. Been a controversial topic with more than 140 people turning out to voice their opinions at last nights meeting. Wbtvs Mark Davenport joins us now live in charlotte with more so mark, what is the ordinance about and when does it go in effect . Reporter john, heres the time line for the ordinance going in effect. It will actually begin on april 1st here in charlotte. Then a month later you have the legislative session beginning in may, in North Carolina. So in that legislative session youll have legislators discussing whether or not they will overturn the ordinance that was passed here overnight. I want to bring you inside council chambers, this meeting went for a long time, almost four hours here. We heard from a lot of people as well, took about three hours to get through the Public Comment portion of the meeting. 140 plus people who signed up spoke last night. After that 74 vote passed the ordinance, majority of the crowd clapped and cheered, they may not be cheering too long. Governor pat mccrory promised he would take action against the ordinance but regardless how things shake out on the state level, later on, in a couple said it was important to pass this expanded ordinance overnight. I am pleased with the council and i am pleased that charlotte has joined over 250 cities and counties that have these kind of respect for lgbt inclusion and nondiscrimination. Christine the mayor of hildebran says she received threats after that Historic School caught fire. We first brought you news of the fire at the Hildebran School as breaking news on wbtv news this morning yesterday. The school had been the center of controversy recently as the mayor and other town leaders fought to tear it down. This morning, investigators from the sbi and atf are trying to figure out what caused the fire, they say it appears the fire started in the basement. They tell us there was power to part of the building but that is all they know at this point. Firefighters across the area have something other than usual duties to worry over. For the tenth time in a couple weeks, thieves are breaking in their personal cars when they firefighters are responding to a call and know their cars will be left at the station. A scottish nurse, pauline, was among the first to be hospitalized with ebola back in december of 2014. She had been working in sierra leone. A third time since contracting ebola. Last year she suffered new life threatening complications from the virus, still in her brain and she got meningitis caused by the ebola, that was the first known case of that. Now this morning a short time ago we have heard she is back in the hospital for more treatment, but hospital officials would not get specific about her condition this morning. New information, investigators say the uber driver charged in the deadly shooting spree in michigan gave people rides between shootings. A judge denied bond for jason dalton yesterday. He is now charged with killing six people and attempting to kill two more. The shootings began around 6 00 saturday night, ended five hours later. Uber says dalton cleared a background check and was approved as a driver a month ago. The six victims identified as 17yearold tyler smith, his father, richard smith. Mary lou nye, Dorothy Brown and mary jo nye. People gathered to light candle in honor of the victims. An engine fire before take off forced the evacuation of the Japan Airlines jet in very snowy conditions in northern japan. Passengers were sliding down the chutes as snow fell on the tarmac. One woman sustained minor hip injury trying to get off the plane. Sounds like the boeing 737 with 159 passengers and six crew members on board was evacuated before take off, after smoke entered the cabin.
